75: When God Says “Wait” | Elizabeth Laing Thompson Dec 03, 2024
    Show notes

You may have heard of the expression that God answers prayers in one of three ways. He either answers: “Yes,” “No,” or “Not right now.” In my prayer life, it is seldom easy for me to clearly figure out which of these three responses He is giving me. Oftentimes, I end up acting like an amateur detective, trying to piece together clues as to what God is telling me to do, so that I can quickly make a decision. I often struggle with waiting when I simply don't have a crystal-clear answer from Him. That’s why I’m so excited to sit down and talk with Elizabeth Laing Thompson, about all things “waiting.” Elizabeth is a speaker and novelist, and the author of many inspirational books for women and teens, including All the Feels, All the Feels for Teens, When a Friendship Falls Apart, and the When God Says series. She writes to help others find hope when they're waiting, help when they're hurting, and humor in holiness. My key takeaway? When God makes us “wait,” we can control only two things: how we wait, and who we become along the way.

74: If God is Good, Then Why is Life Hard? | Pastor Matt Howell Nov 19, 2024
    Show notes

When trials befall us, we’re often tempted to question God’s goodness or power, and because we want an end to our pain, we try to figure out why God has allowed particular trials into our lives. We reason that if we can just understand what God is doing, we can work towards a way out of our suffering. I am so excited to share with you guys my conversation today with Pastor Matt Howell, as we discuss some profound questions about suffering. Pastor Matt grew up in Dallas, TX and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2003. After graduation, he served as an intern with RUF at LSU for two years where he developed a heart for pastoral ministry and met and married his wife, Kathryn. After 11 years of being a campus minister with RUF, Matt now serves as a pastor at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, in Memphis, Tennessee. While we can’t know God’s specific reasons for the trials that he allows into our lives, we do know that He has a big-picture purpose for the sufferings we endure.

Food plays a remarkable role in healing, but the timing of when we eat or abstain can significantly affect our health as well. Fasting serves as a powerful tool to support longevity. Fasting has also been shown to enhance metabolic flexibility, sharpen mental focus, and support consistent energy levels.
Today I'm joined by Cynthia Thurlow, NP, the CEO and founder of the Everyday Wellness Project, and international speaker, with over 10 million views for her second TEDx talk (Intermittent Fasting: Transformational Technique).
