    EP #956: Re-Play: Connecting With Those We’ve Lost Sep 10, 2020
    Show notes

With so many losses from COVID-19, we wanted to replay an interview we did in 2019. It has been such a devastating time for so many. Now is the time to be reminded of how to connect to those we've lost.
    Original show description:
The idea that "time heals all wounds" is not realistic.
When you lose someone dear, that hurt and pain can stay with you for a lifetime in varying degrees. Many questions remain, and the "permanence of never" starts to set it.
However, emerging research into both science and spirituality is offering hope for those left behind.
In her book, Where Did You Go? A Life-Changing Journey to Connect with Those We’ve Lost, Christina Rasmussen provides a groundbreaking exploration of the afterlife that reveals we all have the power to connect with our loved ones on the other side.
As a professional grounded in science, Christina was initially a skeptic who shied away from the conventional mystical, supernatural, and religious descriptions of the afterlife. So, she turned to what seemed “provable” to unravel the mystery of life beyond life: physics.
What she found was beyond anything she could have expected. Not only is there life after death, but we all have the ability to connect with loved ones who have passed on.
Listen as Christina joins Andrea and Lisa to discuss how her and others' work can change the way we grieve, the way we live, and how we define our potential...in this life and the hereafter.

We wanted to re-play this interview which we did on in mid-March 2020 since we are still in the midst of Covid19. Now with children starting school, either online, hybrid, or full time in school, the need for resiliency abounds. If you heard this interview back in March, it is a great one to listen to again. Myra Giberovitch, MSW is an incredible resource.
    Original description.
This is a stressful time for all of us, filled with fear, anxiety, uncertainty and worry as our world turns upside down.
But Myra believes, as humans, we are resilient. Myra Giberovitch is an educator, social worker, consultant, author and professional speaker. She is an adjunct professor at the McGill University School of Social and author of "Recovering from Genocidal Trauma." Growing up Myra's mother used to say, “In life we never know what lies ahead. What’s important is to adapt to circumstances you can’t change, no matter how difficult.”
She made everyday choices to control her environment. One of them was choosing to have a positive attitude and taking action when responding to situations. She persevered and never gave up. Myra is filled with hope and positive regard for her fellow human beings. She chooses to focus on our common humanity, resilience, and kindness and all the goodness that is out there.
Listen to this podcast to be inspired and to learn different tips we can use to remain positive during these challenging times .

    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Do you get enough vitamin D? Or, equally important, are you getting the right kind of vitamin D? Known as the sunshine vitamin, vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that comes in two major forms: vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol).
However, the two forms can be drastically different.
A December 2010 study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism discovered vitamins D2 and D3 are not used by the body in the same way.
Lorna Vanderhaeghe, MS joins Andrea and Lisa to share which vitamin D you need and why.

EP #952: Avoid These Top 10 Toxic Ingredients in Your Personal Care & Beauty Products for Ultimate Self-Care Aug 27, 2020
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Think about all of the personal care and beauty products you use every day, starting from brushing your teeth in the morning to applying your moisturizer at night. You could easily be applying 100 or more throughout the day. But, how often do you pay attention to the ingredients in those products? How often do you read the label of your favorite shampoo or night cream? The toxic ingredients in personal care products can have hugely negative effects and create a toxic overload. The top 10 to look for include the following:
    1. Parabens: there are many different types of parabens, so look for any variation of this word.
    2. PEGs and Glycols: shampoos, antiperspirants, body wash, and can even be found in toothpaste.
    3. Lauryl/Laureth Sulfates: extremely irritating to the body.
    4. 1,4 Dioxane: cancer-causing ingredient that is also found in sulfates and glycols.
    5. Triethanolamine (TEA): respiratory toxin/allergen.
    6. Phthalates: endocrine disrupting properties.
    7. Synthetic Fragrence: becomes a catch-all, so even if a product doesn't list "glycol" or "sulfate" it may still contain it under the guise of frangrence.
    8. Synthetic Dyes: look for companies that use natural color options like beets.
    9. Triclosan: U.S. FDA just changed ruling and no longer allows these in anti-bacterial soaps.
    10. Polyethylene Beads (plastic beads): the U.S. has finally banned these.
Men also need to pay attention, even if they may not think of products as "beauty" related. Body wash, shampoo, conditioner, antiperspirant, hair gel/spray, toothpaste, and cologne all may contain dangerous ingredients.
Fortunately, there are products with clinically-proven results but without all the harsh ingredients. You need to be responsible for your own health, so make sure you take a very close look at what your products contain.
Listen in as David Pollock, an expert in the cosmetics industry, joins hosts Andrea Donsky and Lisa Davis to explain why these ingredients are so harmful.
