Lose Weight For The Last Time

Welcome to Lose Weight for the Last Time, the podcast for women who are done with dieting, food drama, and starting over every Monday.

I’m Laura Conley, life coach and creator of the Yummy Mummy method, and I’m here to show you that permanent weight loss doesn’t come from more restriction, more tracking, or more willpower, it comes from changing how you think.

If you’ve tried everything… calorie counting, macros, cutting carbs, over-exercising… and still feel stuck… it’s not because you’re broken. It’s because you’ve been taught methods that don’t last.

On this podcast, you’ll learn how to:

→ Lose weight without giving up the foods you love

→ Stop emotional eating and constant cravings

→ Quiet the food chatter in your brain

→ Feel in control around food… without obsession

→ Create results that actually stick for life

Beating Yourself Up and Why You Should Stop

So many of us beat ourselves up or let ourselves off the hook when we have eaten something we said we weren't going to eat.

We think that these ways of being will lead to weight loss.

I will teach you exactly what to do instead!

Why You Should Have Fun if You Are Losing Weight! May 28, 2024
    Show notes

If you want to lose weight for the last time, which means you want this weight loss to actually LAST, you have to learn to have fun along the way.

We’ve been conditioned to think that losing weight is not a fun experience, but something we just have to white-knuckle our way through. But the only reason Yummy Mummy has delivered so much success to so many women is because we figure out how to make it fun.

At first, it might feel unsafe to approach weight loss as something fun. You might be so used to the constant low-level shame that you don’t know how to operate without it. I mean, that makes total sense.

But doesn’t it make even more sense that our goals would actually be more achievable if we were enjoying the process?

Listen in and you’ll hear more about:

    • Overcoming the resistance to fun
    • How the Yummy Mummy method incorporates more enjoyment for the journey
    • Unfun behaviors you have permission to quit

How Long It Should Take to Lose Weight Forever May 23, 2024
    Show notes

The fastest way to lose weight for the last time is to let it be slow.

This might mean 3 months or 6 months or dare I say 18 months.

It is the fastest way. Your brain thinks it is the slowest. But continuing to do what you are doing is the slowest. Look at the facts.

It has been 20 years. And you still haven’t lost weight for the last time.

Tune in to hear your solution to your diet brain and what it thinks about time. This is some of the best content ever.

It changed my life and will change yours too.

What To Do If You Had a Not So Great Mother's Day... May 21, 2024
    Show notes

The Yummy Mummy Experience is a movement, and this movement is about freeing the moms (and ALL the women) from the societal traps we unknowingly fall into.

The trap of diet culture. The trap of expectations.

I mean, Mother’s Day could basically have a second title as The Day of Unmet Expectations. SO MANY moms I know and coach kept their fingers crossed all day that this would be the year their family finally “got it right” only to reach the end of Mother’s Day and just feel meh.

    “That’s it?”

And like, how do those expectations make you feel, really? My own high expectations caused so many negative unintentional emotions that I didn’t like. I had so many unmet expectations of people and situations that I was constantly disappointed. It really did NOT serve me.

For a lot of us, feeling really crappy triggers us to do some emotional overeating, right? Nothing soothes disappointment quite like comfort food. We can keep our resentment tamped down (or so we think) by distracting ourselves from that awful feeling with something delicious.

If Mother’s Day felt like an utter failure, you might feel like you deserve some (ahem, a lot of) leftover Reese’s eggs as a reward for putting up with it all.

Want to finally break that yearly cycle?

Listen in and you’ll hear more about:

    • Practical steps to handle unmet expectations
    • Writing a letter of appreciation to yourself
    • What it means to hold space for disappointment and how to do it

And listen, mama: my calendar is still open for free 30-minute coffee chats! Get your booty on a call with me here and you can ask me all your weight loss questions, plus get some tools you can start implementing to lose weight right away. I’ll also answer anything you’ve been wondering about Yummy Mummy Experience to help you figure out if you’re a good match for the program. I can’t wait to connect!

Regardless of why your body changes – childbirth, weight gain, weight loss, fitness – it can feel totally disorienting when you realize you have no idea how to dress the body you’re in.

Maybe the kinds of clothes that used to look cute no longer do, or maybe it’s always been kind of a struggle to find styles you look AND feel good in!

And what the heck do you do when your body is still changing? Maybe you’ve lost some weight so your old clothes no longer fit, but you’re not at your goal weight, yet… What then?

Does Procrastination Get in the Way of Your Weight Loss? with Priyanka Venugopal May 07, 2024
    Show notes

Diet culture has done us no favors. Because honestly, who gets excited about obsessing over every calorie and restricting entire food groups to lose weight? It’s no wonder we develop patterns of procrastination.

How many times have you said, “Diet starts Monday!” and that particular Monday never actually arrives…

Or that you just need to do a little bit more research before you’ll feel ready. You’ll lose weight right after reading a few more articles or books or creating a huge pros and cons list…

Or you save all your food and body goals for a different season of life: right after tax season, right after kids go back to school, right after the holidays…

If you connect with all that (and I’m raising MY hand over here), you’re going to love today’s guest, Priyanka Venugopal. She’s a board certified OB GYN physician turned stress and fat loss coach for type-A working moms. I’m SO excited to welcome her back to the pod to talk about how procrastination affects your weight loss goals.

Spoiler: it’s a BIG obstacle to losing weight.

So how do we get past procrastination and finally create a clear path to losing weight for the last time?

Listen in and hear all about:

    • It’s not your fault that it feels so hard to lose weight for the last time
    • How procrastination is actually perfectionism in disguise
    • Why, as humans, do we procrastinate?
    • What we can do to get past procrastination and start taking real action

Getting Better With Age with Jenny The Nutritionist Apr 30, 2024
    Show notes

Pod swap alert! This episode was recorded with my friend and nutritionist Jenny (@jennythenutritionist on all the things) to release on both our podcasts, Yummy Mummy and Create Your Shape.

And in this episode, we're smashing the whole freaking idea that things with your body and weight just get worse with age. Because no, mama, that's not true.

Something Jenny's and my work has in common is that we frequently help women in their 40s and beyond to look and feel WAY better than they did in their 20s.

This whole idea that aging is a downward spiral is a MYTH. Especially when it comes to losing weight for the last time. You absolutely have the option to get better with age. You just need the right roadmap for how to get there.

And it's your lucky day, because Jenny's work is helping women understand the science behind food and their bodies to create a nutrition routine that runs on autopilot.

Listen in and you'll hear more about:

    • Why it's so important to balance your blood sugar
    • How to learn and trust your body's signals
    • Nutrition or exercise; which packs the biggest weight loss punch?
    • Self-acceptance and creating your own ideal body
