    SKIPPER�S ALLEY are a 7-piece ensemble whose dynamic take on traditional Irish music has garnered wide critical praise and featured on such diverse stages as The Late Late Show, La Festival Interceltique de Lorient, and the Irish Embassy in Zambia. Once described as "a young Irish ensemble who look like a punk band and sound like The Chieftains� Skipper�s Alley specialise in gritty, high-octane Irish dance tunes on Uilleann Pipes, Whistles, Fiddle, Bodhr�n, Bouzouki, Flute and Harp, with occasional detours into the dark, sombre melodies of the Irish song tradition. TRISTAN McINTOSH quickly made a name for herself on the public stage when her American Idol audition performance brought the judges to tears and earned her a “golden ticket� to Hollywood to compete in the final season of the long-running television series last year. She went on to become a fan favorite and finished in the top six. This 16-year-old and Nashville Native has performed recently with Darius Rucker, Kellie Pickler and on the Grand Ole Opry. She continues to work her on musicianship, songwriting and her overall dream of becoming the next big Country Music Star. WoodSongs Kid: Vivian Leigh is a 13-year-old singer and guitarist from Lexington, Kentucky. She recently fell in love with the blues and performs an Etta James classic.

    DAILY & VINCENT has been hailed throughout the music industry as one of the most exciting, reputable and elite Bluegrass bands in America. Dubbed by CMT as the “Rockstars of Bluegrass,� the duo has won numerous awards for their uniquely contagious and riveting music, including: three Grammy Award Nominations for the 2014 “Bluegrass Album of the Year;� 14 IBMA Awards (International Bluegrass Music Awards) as three-time “Entertainer of the Year,� three-time “Vocal Group of the Year� and “Album of the Year� and four Dove Awards with three “Bluegrass Album of the Year� awards and “Bluegrass Song of the Year.� Their latest project is �Patriots & Poets�. CHASITY BROWN grew up surrounded by country and soul music with roots in the Deep South. Now based in Minnesota, she is a powerful new voice with the ability to warm, comfort and challenge. She�s been hailed by NPR, CMT, American Songwriter, The London Times, and Paste Magazine as a songwriter to watch and has appeared on UK television on Later� with Jools Holland. She melds folk, pop and soul on her Red House debut, �Silhouette of Sirens�, weaving together a poet�s lyrical ear and a soul-laid-bare quality.


    WoodSongs 900: Roger McGuinn plus John Lomax III Sep 22, 2017

    ROGER McGUINN gained fame for his work with the Limelighters, the Chad Mitchell Trio and ultimately as the founding member of The Bryds. Because of massive global hits like Turn, Turn Turn and Mr. Tambourine Man, he was soon inducted into the Rock�n�Roll Hall of Fame. In the mid-1990�s Roger pioneered one of the first streaming websites called FolkDen. To this day it is one of the most extensive archives of America�s folk legacy. We are honored and excited Roger will help us celebrate WoodSongs 900th broadcast! JOHN LOMAX III is a legacy descendant of the folk archivist pioneers, the Lomax Family. They are responsible for seeking out and cataloging America�s folk and mountain music, later absorbed by the Smithsonian Institute. John and Alan Lomax are responsible for discovering and promotion Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Pete Seeger and many other icons of America�s musical history. John will be a special guest on this broadcast.

    SAM BUSH is a Kentucky music hero, a bluegrass music legend and one of the premier masters of the mandolin. Founding member of New Grass Revival and the revered “King of Telluride,� Sam has pioneered the mandolin, inspiring an entire new generation to take up the instrument, including Chris Thile. Originally from Bowling Green, Kentucky, Sam is a 4-time IBMA Mandolin Player of the Year, 3-time Grammy Award winner, and has toured all around the world. He comes to WoodSongs with the entire SAM BUSH BAND as we celebrate music from his new album release �Storyman�.

    MIKE DAWES is hailed as one of the world�s finest and most creative modern fingerstyle guitar performers. His acclaimed solo music has gained over 15 million hits on popular video sharing sites and since the release of his debut album in 2013 he has toured almost every continent on the planet, with an average of 150 concerts per year. This guitarist from the UK has recorded with and taught multiple grammy winning artists, appeared on film and TV soundtracks, released apps, written for the world�s best selling music magazines and in addition to his solo work, currently performs alongside and in support of the legendary frontman of The Moody Blues, Justin Hayward. His latest album is �What Just Happened�. ANTHONY SNAPE is often likened to artists such as Jason Mraz, One Republic, Crowded House. His storytelling performance style reflects classic�s like, Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, The Eagles. Snape�s raw acoustic performances, lush with uplifting emotional songs, are a platform for an unbelievable vocal that he effortlessly wields to the delight of audiences around the world. Originally from Australia, Anthony is now based in the US Anthony has been independently building his audience globally. His fans include guitar great Tommy Emmanuel who said, “Anthony's songs, his voice and his message are all so powerful, I love his work!� WoodSongs Kid: Parker Hastings is a young guitar enthusiast from Kentucky. He�s been inducted into the National Thumbpicker's Hall of Fame three years in a row with the title of 2014 “Horizon Award,� 2015 NTHF “Thumbpicker of the Year,� and 2016 "Recording of the Year�.


    WoodSongs 896: The Looping Brothers with Si Kahn and Still on the Hill Sep 22, 2017

    SI KAHN & THE LOOPING BROTHERS teamed up for an extraordinary album that features the best-known and most-loved songs from this legendary songwriter, author, playwright and activist in a bluegrass setting. The Looping Brothers are one of Europe�s most respected, experienced and best-loved bluegrass bands, having worked and toured with such bluegrass legends as Bill Monroe, the Osborne Brothers, Kenny Baker, Josh Graves and Dan Crary. Si is known all over the world by fans of American folk music. His songs of family, community, love, work, and freedom have been recorded by more than 100 artists and translated into half a dozen languages. They will be performing songs for Looping Brothers new album �Wrong Road Again�. Si has continued his work with Musicians United to Protect Bristol Bay and the epic battle to defeat the proposed Pebble Mine. STILL ON THE HILL is a national and international touring group from Arkansas that has been described as “Ambassadors of the Ozarks� for the work they do to preserve a rich culture that is quickly disappearing. Kelly & Donna of Still on the Hill are award winning �story telling-song writers�. Different than most singer-songwriters, this dynamic duo embellishes their songs with a host of unique instruments from the hills they call home. Many of these were hand-made by old-timers and have amazing stories that go with them. The duo�s latest project to celebrate the rich history of the Buffalo River through stories and songs.

    EMISUNSHINE became a global sensation when a video of her singing in a music store went viral; the world fell in love with the little nine-year-old gal from Knoxville, TN. The natural-born singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist beams with exceptional and inexplicable talents. Steeped in Appalachian music, Emi is a true vocal stylist whose music has been described as “old-timey." This 13-year-old prodigy has released seven projects to date to attract nearly a half million Facebook followers and is set to release her much-anticipated next album �Ragged Dreams�, featuring 14 self-penned tracks and co-writes. BLUE HIGHWAY is one considered one of the highest esteemed bluegrass band in the history of the genre. The band has earned a collective 26 IBMA Awards, 6 SPBGMA Awards, one Dove Award, plus three Grammy nominations as a band, in addition to two prestigious Grammy Awards among its current members. The band was voted the Favorite Bluegrass Artist of All Time by the readers of Bluegrass Today in April 2016. Their newly released album �Original Traditional� is nominated for a 2017 GRAMMY Award for Best Bluegrass Album. WoodSongs Kid: George Fields is a young banjo picker from Stamping Grounds, Kentucky.

    JOHN N�METH has established himself among the very top ranks of blues musicians and modern soul singers. Drawing from his strong influences in blues and R&B, as well as contemporary sounds in hip hop and rock & roll, John creates music that is personal as well as universal, and owes its origin to no one but John N�meth.N�meth is also a very accomplished harmonica player who can boogie with the best of them He is currently nominated for a 2017 Blues Music Award in the category of B.B. King Entertainer of the Year and won a couple of BMA the prior two years. His new album �Feelin� Freaky� backed by his Memphis band shows why he�s one of the hottest stars in the musical firmament. TOMI LUNSFORD is a transcendent singer, and songwriter, informed by deep family musical roots. She has long been recognized as one of Nashville�s most versatile performers, thriving outside the realm of the expected. Lunsford�s soprano is deeply rooted in mountain and bluegrass history, but she possesses her own definitive voice. She has always impressed with an offbeat style and phrasing that conjures jazz, folk, country, and blues in a singular vehicle. Critics have long considered Lunsford a Nashville treasure. Her new album �Come On Blue�, produced by Robin Eaton, features twelve elemental songs melodically crafted around her indelible voice


    WoodSongs 893: Six-String Soldiers and Pentagon Winds Sep 22, 2017

    SIX-STRING SOLDIERS are part of the United States Army Field Band. They are a four-member acoustic group performing Americana, folk, bluegrass, and Irish music in an informal setting. The group brings its signature style to the smallest, most intimate venues, the busiest public places, street festivals, and music festivals across the United States. With its focus on audience interaction and sharing its members� stories and experiences as American Soldiers, Six-String Soldiers offers one of the most personal musical experiences found in the United States Army. PENTAGON WINDS is woodwind quintet was originally formed in 1989 as part of the Army Field Band�s College Clinic Team. The quintet has presented numerous recitals at colleges and universities in forty-nine states featuring repertoire from Renaissance to jazz and beyond. It has been featured at the Kennedy Center, the International Double Reed Society Conference, and other professional music conferences around the country. In addition to its regular recital appearances, the Pentagon Winds frequently presents educational clinics to students ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade. WoodSongs Kids: The Graham Family are a bluegrass group from Winchester, Kentucky.


    WoodSongs 892: The Railsplitters and David Childers Sep 22, 2017

    THE RAILSPLITTERS is a high-energy bluegrass and americana band from Boulder, Colorado. Fresh off the success of their first album, and taking first place in Rockygrass� Best New Band Competition, Colorado natives, the band got busy touring the US, meeting wider audiences, and of course, spending hours in the tour van! The Railsplitters are pushing the genre forward with an adventurous spirit, carrying in the tradition of breaking boundaries with their innovative sound. Their new album, �The Faster It Goes�, uses these new sounds to break the bonds of bluegrass and unleash tradition. DAVID CHILDERS is a musician, poet, historian, painter, father and a champion of people who get tangled up in the bureaucratic legal system; he specializes in helping people navigate the maze of the Social Security system to obtain their benefits. He grew up in Mt. Holly, NC and won the American Academy of Poets Award for North Carolina in 1973 and has two published volumes of poetry. For the past twenty years, Childers has focused primarily on songwriting. Childers� new album, �Run Skeleton Run� on Ramseur Records, is filled with the kinds of songs that have made him a favorite of fans and fellow artists including neighbors the Avett Brothers. WoodSongs Kid: Maddie Carbary is a 14-year-old student from Lexington, Kentucky. She perform a song written by the Dean of American Balladeers John Jacob Niles.
