    THE LEGENDARY SHACK SHAKERS hell-for-leather roadshow has earned quite a name for itself with its unique brand of Southern Gothic and swampy "hillbilly blues" that is all-at-once irreverent, lyrical, dangerous, and fun. Led by their charismatic, rail-thin frontman and blues-harpist JD Wilkes, the Shack Shakers are a four-man wrecking crew from the South whose explosive interpretations of swamp blues, rock n' roll and hillbilly music have made fans, critics and legions of potential converts into true believers. the band�s latest is �After You�ve Gone�. DONALD AND BARRON RYAN are dynamic father-son piano duo that blends classic and contemporary music into an enthralling concert experience. From Rachmaninoff to Gershwin to Billy Joel, Ryan & Ryan combine their talents to create a dazzling blend of old and new schools. A native of Trinidad & Tobago, Donald came to the United States to study music and has the distinction of being among the most accomplished pianists in the world as a Steinway Artist. Barron is a distinguished piano master in his own right and is a prizewinner in numerous piano competitions. Barron just released his debut solo album �The Masters' Apprentice�. WoodSongs Kid: Andrew Swisher is a 16-year-old ragtime and blues pianist from Lexington, Kentucky.

    Sun Records was founded in 1952 by Sam Phillips in Memphis, Tennessee and is the birthplace of rock and roll that launched the careers of Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Elvis, Jerry Lee, and Charlie Rich. �Red Hot: A Memphis Celebration of Sun Records� is a jubilant homegrown commemoration of the timeless legacy of the tiny independent label that changed the face of American music. All proceeds from the release (the debut for the label, run by the Americana Music Society, a Memphis nonprofit organization), will benefit St. Jude Children�s Research Hospital, the Memphis facility that is one of the nation�s top pediatric care centers. Memphis musician appearing on this legacy broadcast include: producer and Americana songwriter Bryan Hayes; acclaimed veteran of the Memphis music scene John Paul Keith; American singer, songwriter, upright bass player and actress Amy LaVere and respected artist, songwriter and producer Will Sexton. Plus, our thirteen-year-old WoodSongs Kid Shelby Callahan performs Elvis� first hit for Sun Records.


    WoodSongs 910: Billy Strings and Whiskey Shivers Jun 11, 2018

    BILLY STRINGS delivers EXTREME American string band music with energy levels usually associated with a box of dynamite. His profile as a guitarist and singer in the acoustic/bluegrass scene continues to grow and has already earned some landmark achievements. He has been invited to play on stage with Del McCoury, David Grisman, Larry Keel, Sam Bush, Greensky Bluegrass, The Infamous Stringdusters, Leftover Salmon and more. He also just won IBMA 2016 Momentum Awards Instrumentalist of the Year for guitar, banjo and mandolin and was voted #1 in, scene tastemaker, Bluegrass Situation�s Top 16 of �16. His latest �Turmoil & Tinfoil.� WHISKEY SHIVERS is a masterfully talented string band known for raucous live shows based out of Austin, Texas. The band have made a name for themselves with a genre-pushing sound that the Washington Post called "apocalyptic Americana." NPR described them as "frenetic bluegrass" with a "punk spirit.� The band members also just wrapped shooting for their role in the upcoming film 'Pitch Perfect 3,' It might sound strange for a bluegrass band, but the big screen is the perfect place for Whiskey Shivers, who had their first major breakout when their horror-movie influenced music video went viral after ending up on the top of Reddit's front page. The band�s new album is �Some Part of Something.� WoodSongs Kid: Ian Shaw is a twelve-year-old musician from Bloomington, Indiana. Ian plays ukulele and has a dynamic voice.


    WoodSongs 909: Rhythm Future Quartet and Phoebe Hunt Jun 11, 2018

    THE RHYTHM FUTURE QUARTET has a straightforward agenda: to keep the spirit of Gypsy jazz alive and expanding in today�s musical universe. The virtuosic foursome, named for a Django Reinhardt tune, offers up a newly minted sound, influenced by the classic Hot Club of France, yet wholly contemporary. Led by violinist Jason Anick and guitarist Olli Soikkeli plus Max O�Rourke on second guitar and Greg Loughman on bass, the quartet performs dynamic and lyrical arrangements of both Gypsy jazz standards and original compositions that draw upon diverse international rhythms and musical idioms. The band's latest is titled 'Travels'. PHOEBE HUNT is an accomplished Americana instrumentalist with foundations in jazz and swing music. Formerly of the Belleville Outfit, she makes an impressive creative leap with her new album 'Shanti's Shadow'. It�s the culmination of a five year journey that has taken her from her Austin roots through Music Row, Brooklyn, and even to India to study with seventh-generation master violinist Kala Ramnath. Along the way, Phoebe found her voice and delivered her most inspired set of songs to date. WoodSongs Kids: Olivia and Eliana Lee are sisters from Versailles, Kentucky that love to play fiddle.


    WoodSongs 908: Chris Robinson Brotherhood and Acoustic Eidolon Jun 11, 2018

    CHRIS ROBINSON BROTHERHOOD was formed by the iconic frontman of rock and roll powerhouse band The Black Crowes in 2011 and is now in the midst of one of their most prolific periods to date. Overspilling with stunning musicianship and infectious energy, the band intertwines country, blues and psychedelia, even channeling freewheeling 60s' folk. Their stellar new album, �Barefoot In The Head,� marks the CRB�s third studio release in just two years, and it finds them pushing boundaries and breaking new ground with more joy and wonder than ever before. The album showcases the continued growth of Robinson�s songwriting partnership with his bandmates (guitarist Neal Casal, drummer Tony Leone, keyboardist Adam MacDougall, and bassist Jeff Hill) and revels in the kind of adventurousness that can only come from five artists tuned into the same sonic wavelength. ACOUSTIC EIDOLON is what happens when you cross a guitar with 2 necks and a cello with attitude. This duo featuring Joe Scott on double neck guitjo and Hannah Alkire on cello are from Colorado and have graced stages throughout the US, Europe, Australia and Canada. With eleven CDs and a DVD to their credit, these masterful artists continue to captivate audiences throughout the world with their signature “new acoustic� sound and boundless possibilities in blending Celtic, Folk, World & Latin music influences. They have released 2 new CDs since their last WoodSongs appearance including the latest, 'A Tree Finds Its Voice,' which features the new cello and guitar made from the same piece of wood. WoodSongs Kid: Jakarah Ritter is sixteen-year-old powerhouse vocalist from Lexington, Kentucky.

    MCLAIN FAMILY BAND is launching the celebration of their 50th year performing with this special event WoodSongs broadcast. Beginning in Knott county, KY and moving as youngsters with their mom and dad to Big Hill, outside of Berea Ky, they brought genuine Kentucky bluegrass music to audiences in over 80 nations as “America�s Ambassadors of Traditional Music.� including Carnegie Hall and Symphony Orchestra theaters. WoodSongs Kid: Cutter Singleton is an 11-year-old banjo wiz from Maryann, Kentucky.

    THE UNITED STATES NAVY BAND COUNTRY CURRENT is the Navy�s premier country-bluegrass ensemble. The group is nationally renowned for its versatility and “eye-popping� musicianship, performing cutting-edge bluegrass all over the world. Country Current is the only dedicated bluegrass outfit in the US military music program. PARKER HASTINGS is the youngest national thumb picking champion in history. A prot�g� of Tommy Emmanuel, performing in the shadows of Chet Atkins and Merle Travis, Parker is only 17 years old � and he�s from Richmond KY. This is his first time on WoodSongs as a featured artist. WoodSongs Kid: Cash Singleton is an award winning seven-year-old country singer from Marion, Kentucky. He is joined by his banjo playing older brother Cutter.

    THE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA first rose to fame in the segregated south with their thrilling vocal harmonies and roof-raising live show. Their 70-year recording career would see them rack up five GRAMMY Awards (plus one for Lifetime Achievement), enter the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, collaborate with everyone from Mavis Staples and Stevie Wonder to Prince and Lou Reed, and perform on the world's most prestigious stages. From the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind, where the original members met as children, all the way to The White House - where they've performed for three different presidents - the band's story is, in many ways, America's story, and that story is at the heart of their emotional new album, 'Almost Home.' WoodSongs Kid: Makayla is a 15-year-old powerhouse vocalist from Lexington, Kentucky.

    DOYLE LAWSON & QUICKSILVER are legendary in the Bluegrass genre. With nearly 40 albums to their credit, they have multiple Grammy, Dove, ICM, IBMA and SPBGMA Award nominations, and are 7-time winners of IBMA�s Vocal Group of the Year. Doyle was inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame in 2012 and received the National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship award in 2006 for his contributions to cultural heritage as a musical trailblazer. The group�s latest is �Life is a Story� on Mountain Home Music Company. OLD SALT UNION is a string band from Belleville, Illinois founded by a horticulturist, cultivated by classically trained musicians, and fueled by a vocalist/bass player who is also a hip-hop producer with a fondness for the Four Freshmen. It is this collision of styles and musical vocabularies that informs their fresh approach to bluegrass and gives them an electric live performance vibe that seems to pull more from Vaudeville than the front porch. The band�s self-titled debut album on Compass Records is available now. WoodSongs Kid: Cutter Singleton is an 11-year-old banjo wiz from Maryann, Kentucky.


    WoodSongs 903: Nicole Atkins and Albert Cummings Jan 05, 2018

    NICOLE ATKINS is the heir to the legacy of Roy Orbison, Lee Hazelwood, Sinatra, Aretha, Carole King, Candi Staton. NPR stated “A voice that could melt the heart of a devil�� Named Rolling Stone�s "Top 10 Artists To Watch" in 2007 for her debut album �Neptune City�, Atkins has appeared on numerous late night TV shows, including “The Late Show with David Letterman�, “Conan�, and “Later� with Jools Holland�, and featured in media outlets ranging from the New York Times to Time magazine. �Goodnight Rhonda Lee� is her fourth studio record. It�s a vintage soul album and tells the story of Nicole finding her voice, and how, in doing so, she went a little crazy. ALBERT CUMMINGS writes, plays and sings the blues like nobody else. He has played with blues legends B.B. King, Johnny Winter, and Buddy Guy. Taken with Albert�s fire and passion bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton, of the band Double Trouble, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan�s rhythm section, volunteered to play on and produce his solo debut recording, 2003�s self-released From the Heart. B.B. King dubbed Cummings “a great guitarist.� 'Someone Like You' is Albert's newest recording. WoodSongs Kid: Felix Sparling is a 13-year-old ukulele player from Berkley, California.
