We are now subjecting our children to intense stress by ignoring the picture superiority effect, and we can do something about it. The PSE says "Items studied as pictures are better remembered than items studied as words even when test items are presented as words." Then why am I receiving all my 11 year old daughters' home school instructions as long form bullet pointed list which an 11-year-old is supposed to both understand and comply with and finally to be motivated by.
In this episode I invoke Wiio's law of miscommunication, and urge everyone to start to send information in the format that the audience is going to find most appealing; and to an 11 year old that's got to be moving images! It's not much different for the big kids who are working from home also using MS Teams.

The best way to be heard is to answer someone else’s question. You can do this by checking on google key word but there are specialist tools which will do much more. They analyse your existing content and tell you which topics you can extend your content to, and most importantly they can tell you what topics are trending and the exact questions which people want answered so that you can help them.

When it came to making videos which will have a short shelf life, need to be high impact, and educate kids about how light affects their wellbeing, I turned to Lumen5. It's is a video creation software that helps marketers, publishers, and brands create video content in a breeze, without any technical expertise.
In this episode I talk about the key features that I am using to develop these edumercials with Dr Shelley James, (She's my sister), and how short form video can be cost effective and with this technology produced at scale and at speed.

The South African pilot who took 11 year old daughter for a flight today said his business would take off if I left a review on TripAdvisor. Every month, 456 million people – about one in every 16 people on earth – visit some tentacle of TripAdvisor.com to plan or assess a trip. Whilst there are fake reviews, it's a key site for businesses of all sizes including the Great Western Airports, to get personal recommendations. And it makes a differnce - March 2015 study by Medallia on TripAdvisor shows that accommodations that respond to more than 50% of social media reviews grow occupancy rates at more than twice the rate of properties that tend to ignore reviews. The research shows that responding to more than 50% of reviews correlates with 6.8 percentage points growth in occupancy rate.

So of course I left a review, and so can you to support your favourite venue or show, but if you have a business subject to reviews, the research shows it's important to address them quickly.

Turning the tables on the costs of video production, Lumen5 makes it quicker to make video than to watch one. I copied the url from a blog on my website and made a 45 second explainer video in 45 seconds using the free package on Lumen5. Stunning how quickly and the quality of the output, and so I had to share this short post today so that you can experience for free another cool technology which enables business owners to get noticed without a big budget; in this case for free.

I went to Wikipedia today and was asked to make a $2 per month contribution; that's the most unbelievable value for the worlds #1 ranked reference site - it's a fraction of Amazon Prime or Apple Music and yet it contains over 53m reference files and has over 1bn visitors per month. The Wikimedia Foundation mission is to empower and engage people around the world to collect and develop educational content under a free license or in the public domain, and to disseminate it effectively and globally.
I look at the foundation behind Wikipedia, but also share how you can create a Wikipedia account and page for your company.
