Where can we find light in this never-ending shade? This will become a phrase etched in everyone's mind as the counterpoint to the Biden inauguration, and the amazing display of eloquence and presence by the poet laureat Amanda Gorman. However, there was a lot more going on that day including the placement of 192,00 flags representing all 56 American states and territories. This episode includes a recording of "The Hill We Climb" which when heard rather than watched is all the more impactful. I share this because firstly it comes as a massive relief to have inspiration from the other side of the pond instead of consternation, but also because it gives great guidance to everyone about the power of words, symbols and the need to let new generations articulate the future vision whilst older leaders play the role of mentors and facilitators. If you are anything like me then LinkedIn is a love|hate thing; I need but it drains my time. Guillaume Portalier, co-founder of Prospectin shares how his start-up can automate lead generation without risking being delisted by LinkedIn. They are pretty smart as they set maximum daily action quotas (between 80 and 100 for connection requests and follows, between 120 and 150 for messages and between 160 and 200 for profile visits), once these quotas are reached, your actions are no longer sent, until your quotas reset the next day. We talk about how automation can allow outreach without exhaustion, use of templates and how LinkedIn can be 10x more impactful than traditional email.

Like his policies or not, Donald Trump has given a masterclass on public perception management which holds lessons for all business owners. I use the SPEAK|pr framework to interpret the actions of this billionaire NY property developer who managed to build a following which would storm the US Capitol buildings on the 6th November. I break down how Trump and his cohort took a leaf out of Joseph Goebbels, master orator and propagandist generally accounted responsible for presenting a favourable image of the Nazi regime to the German people.
However, his process and approach can be a model not least the power of owned media. I try not to be political just analytical, so that we can learn from Trump how he built a following around a cause; some of the best practices should be used to undo the damage done to the fabric of the nation but also the reputation of America worldwide.
