430 Identify + Manage Abuse Enablers Part 2 (With Boundary Scripts!) Aug 16, 2022
    Show notes

When you've repeatedly been hurt by someone and you share it with others in your life do you ever hear things like,

"Well, you probably provoked them" or…

"You can be really sensitive" or…

"Maybe you just took it the wrong way" or…

"I've never had a problem with them" or…

"Aren't you being a bit of a drama queen"?

These reactions are the opposite of supportive. If it happens often, you need to learn how to protect yourself with boundaries from others who (whether they realize it or not) are contributing to keeping an abusive or dysfunctional system in place.

As a continuation of last week's episode, I'm laying out some strategies you can use to protect yourself emotionally plus boundary language and scripts to help you better manage the abuse enablers in your life.

429 Suicide Prevention Strategies with Niyc Pidgeon Aug 11, 2022
    Show notes

When I called Niyc Pidgeon for this interview, I thought we would be talking about productivity and positive psychology. Instead, when I asked her about the work that was really energizing her lately, her answer surprised me: She's writing a book about suicide prevention. What's more, she finds hope and joy in writing about it — even though suicidal behavior has heavily impacted her own personal life.

We discuss the ripple effects suicidal thoughts and behaviors can have on communities, tips for talking to somebody you worry may be experiencing suicidal thoughts, and Niyc's own experience coping with suicidal thoughts after a sexual assault. Plus: Niyc introduces her next book, One More Day.

426 My Skin Cancer Journey: A Cautionary Tale Aug 02, 2022
    Show notes

I don't think I've ever shared this story publicly, but skin cancer awareness is a topic that is near and dear to my heart (and my nose!). If my journey can inspire even a handful of you to start a new routine of daily sun protection, sharing it will have been worthwhile.

If you're someone who knows you should be using SPF when you go out in the sun, but you still don't do it consistently, this episode is for you, my friend, because I don't want you to experience what I experienced.

I'm sharing my very personal story (and some raw pics!), as well as resources and ways you can become more educated to take the very best preventative care of the skin you're in!
