1677: Judy Barnes Baker Back From The Brink Of Death Warns Keto Dieters Of Vitamin A Toxicity Sep 16, 2020
    Show notes

Today Jimmy is joined by Judy Barnes Baker on Episode 1677 of The LLVLC Show.

“I was losing weight quickly, I was passing out and nobody had any idea what was going on with me.”

    – Judy Barnes Baker

Judy Barnes Baker always knew she would be an artist when she grew up. So how did an artist come to write a book on health, diet, and nutrition? She was as surprised as anyone else, but it was a matter of necessity, not choice. Judy’s husband had always said he would never live to retire because of health problems and family history, and he took early retirement to be close to his grandchildren so they would remember him. His weight, blood pressure and blood lipid profile had gotten steadily worse over the years. Every time he went to the doctor, his medications would be increased, and he was starting to get serious side effects. Judy first learned about low-carb diets from a friend and decided to see if that would help get him off some of his many medications. She knew he would eat what she gave him as long as it was good. Six months later, he went in for his regular checkup. When the test results came in the mail, the Dr. had written “Way to go!” across the bottom. (The Dr. had no idea how he had done it, and never asked.) They have been committed to the low-carb life and enjoying its benefits ever since.

After seven years of re-creating all their favorite recipes, Judy wanted to share what she had learned so other people wouldn’t have to start from scratch.

Listen in today as Judy joins Jimmy for a fascinating conversation all about her journey to the brink of death and back, and what caused this incredibly dramatic trip into the unknown.

1676: Is The Carnivore Diet Nutrient-Dense Enough To Be Sustainable And Healthy Long-Term? Sep 15, 2020
    Show notes

“There’s a narrative that there’s a consensus that plant foods are wonderful. No, not everyone believes this.”

    – Jimmy Moore

With the increase in popularity of the carnivore diet in recent years, those who oppose it have stepped up their attacks to prevent people from trying this way of eating. One of the major complaints they have lodged against an animal-based nutritional health plan is that it is lacking in all the essential nutrients. But is it true?⁣ ⁣ In this episode of JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show, I read from an outstanding study published in the August 21, 2020 issue of the journal Current Opinion in Endocrinology & Diabetes and Obesity. The author of this paper is a longtime friend of mine named Amber O’Hearn (@ambimorph) who is one of the OG’s of zero-carb animal food only adherents. She’s been at this for an extremely long time and thus has a lot to say both personally as well as in her own research of this topic that saved her life. ⁣ ⁣ Listen in to this episode to hear her insights along with my running commentary of what she wrote in her outstanding paper! If you are a fan of carnivore, keto, and real food eating, this is a MUST LISTEN. And if you eat plant-based and you just came across this, get ready to have your eyes opened.

1675: Dietitian Michelle Hurn On Her Switch To Carnivore And The Failure Of The Dietetics Profession Sep 09, 2020
    Show notes

Today Jimmy is joined by Dietitian Michelle Hurn on Episode 1675 of The LLVLC Show.

“Fat has such a powerful impact on the brain, and I don’t feel like we promote this enough in the nutrition community.”

    - Michelle Hurn

Michelle Hurn RD LD is dedicated to bringing awareness to the potential to reverse chronic disease by returning to an ancestral, low carbohydrate, high fat, high meat diet. She questions our current nutrition guidelines and asks if they truly are designed with our health in mind. Through her podcast The Dietitian’s Dilemma, she answers questions and address your concerns as well as conducts interviews with guests who have completely reserved course and restored their health with a ketogenic, carnivore, or low carbohydrate diet. She shares stories of recovery from eating disorders, obesity, heart failure, life long depression, anxiety, chronic pain and inflammation, and so much more.

Listen in today as Jimmy welcomes Michelle to the LLVLC Show to talk about her story of finding the carnivore way of eating and what that has meant for her, as well as the shortcomings of the dietitian community to adequately equip the population for optimum nutrition.

1674: Mask Dehumanization And How COVID-19 Has Exposed Many Long-Standing Nutritional Lies Sep 08, 2020
    Show notes

On today’s episode of JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show, we talk about the dehumanizing effects mask wearing is having on us as a society.

“Just put on a mask and shut up” they say. And the vast majority of Americans have done just that. I’m not interested in the mask vs. no mask debate, but I’m very interested in what the ramifications will be of everyone hiding their faces. I’m becoming concerned that it’s dehumanizing us and hindering our natural socialization.

We’ve been fed so many nutritional health lies that have been exposed that it’s almost incredible that people still buy into them as if they’re true. I’ve been sharing about these lies for the past decade and a half and I have longed for the day when people will finally collectively wake up. I’m hoping that day has arrived. ⁣

In this episode of JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show, I talk about the challenges of human expression, effective communication, and essential social interaction in the era of universal mask wearing. Have we thought about the unintended consequences that will come from this mandatory mask wearing lingers on for many more months, even YEARS? I also broach the subject about how the coronavirus pandemic has exposed these nutrition lies even further because the people who are most susceptible to severe consequences and even death from the virus are those that are the most metabolically damaged exhibiting comorbidities. If this doesn’t wake up people to do something about their diet sooner than later, then I don’t know what will.

1672: Sham Study Claims Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) Too Imprecise For Public To Use Sep 01, 2020
    Show notes

Today we look at what may or may not be affecting the adoption of continuous glucose monitors for the general public. Tune in today on Episode 1672 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.

“You’re not moving the earth here, it’s showing you the relative change and that’s valuable information.”

    – Jimmy Moore

Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) are increasing in popularity in the keto and carnivore community lately. Even people who don’t have diabetes are using them to do all kinds of experiments to test their carbohydrate tolerance, look at their post workout glucose, And to see in real time what impact stress is having on their blood sugar. I think just about anyone and everyone who cares about their health should be using a CGM as a way to track one of the most relevant markers in the body. ⁣ ⁣ In this episode of JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show, I read from a new study published a couple of weeks ago in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition by a calorie hypothesis apologist researcher from the NIH named Kevin Hall who tested simultaneous use of the Dexcom G4 vs. Freestyle Libre CGMs to see if there was any disparity between the readings. Duh! He didn’t even have to do the study for me to tell him that this was true. ⁣ ⁣ Listen in today to get full details about the study designed to discourage people from using a CGM. When you don’t believe in the insulin hypothesis like Kevin Hall, why would you find value in using a continuous glucose device? Nice try Kevin but we’re not buying it. Check it out now! ⁣

Dr. Bikman from InsulinIQ.com promotes dietary clarity, healing, and freedom through evidence-based science about insulin resistance.

Listen in today to hear Jimmy and Dr. Bikman discuss the importance role insulin resistance plays in our overall health journey.

1670: Study Examines Most Effective COVID-19 Vaccine Messaging While Patients Skip Routine Preventative Care Aug 25, 2020
    Show notes

Today we tackle the topic of COVID-19 messaging in light of patients being scared to visit their doctor for routine care. Tune in today on Episode 1670 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.

Support this show by becoming a Patron at Patreon!

“We’re so fearful of a virus with less than 1% death rate that people are willing to let go of common sense. If you need medical attention, don’t stay home and try to ride it out.”

    - Jimmy Moore

The vaccine for COVID-19 will potentially be here in a matter of months and researchers at Yale University are trying to determine what messaging it will take to convince you to take it. They are currently conducting a study of 4000 American adults both healthy and unhealthy to determine which argument in favor of a vaccination would be the most effective.

With all the constant negative media coverage of COVID-19 over the past six months, people have become absolutely scared to death of getting this virus. With the daily running tally of infections and deaths relentlessly blasted at us, people have become so paralyzed by fear that it is affecting the rational sensibility when it comes to getting regular routine medical care. Hospitals have taken notice. ⁣ While the perception is that everyone in hospitals right now has the coronavirus, it’s honestly not true. But because that perception is so deeply ingrained in many right now, people simply aren’t going to the hospital to get checked out when they have symptoms. One survey found that one in 4 Americans with symptoms of a heart attack or stroke would rather take their chances at home than to go to a hospital and risk getting COVID-19. This is atrocious!⁣ ⁣ In this episode of JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show, I share about the top 10 causes of death in the United States and how many of the screenings for things like heart disease and cancer are being missed because patients just aren’t getting them done. One breast cancer facility in the news story I read has seen a 90% drop in mammograms since the beginning of March. Listen in today to learn more about the lasting ramifications that will come from this missed preventative care and treatments for chronic disease.⁣

1669: Rebekah Farmer Overcomes 10+ Autoimmune Diseases With Keto, Carnivore, And Her Faith Aug 19, 2020
    Show notes

Rebekah Farmer drops by the show today to talk about her journey battling autoimmune disease on Episode 1669 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.

“Keto was wonderful and changed so many things, but I still had issues. I was constantly choosing hyper-palatable foods.”

    – Rebekah Farmer

Rebekah Farmer (@tailoredketohealth) was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 6th grade. In seventh grade, she ran into chronic pain. She was rushed to the emergency room with severe chest pains, and left with a diagnosis of costochondritis and degenerative disc. She was then diagnosed with OCD, anxiety, depression, insomnia, Narcolepsy, and a myriad of digestive issues such as gastroparesis, IBS, IBD, slow transit colon, Celiac and diverticulitis. Rebekah started regular Chiropractic treatments to address scoliosis and chronic pain. She went through multiple rounds of physical therapy, but symptoms continued to worsen. Shortly after graduating high school, she ran into chronic adrenal fatigue, crippling anxiety and pain so bad that she was bed bound. She had difficulty breathing, with frequent episodes of near- suffocation.

Desperate and afraid, she knew that she needed to dig deeper. She ventured to uncover the root of her issues, working with multiple functional medicine doctors, and embarked on a more strict/ personalized version of the ketogenic diet. She was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease, ulcerative colitis, Addisons, Hashimotos hypothyroid, CREST scleroderma, and a central nervous system disorder called Central Sensitization Syndrome (see youtube video by Dr. Sletten of Mayo Clinic). With Keto, various supplements, and support she was able to get off of Adderal, Clonazepam, and Ambien after being dependent on them for 13 years. She gained energy and focus, and reversed Hashimotos! Her cystic acne also cleared completely. She was only just beginning to break free from the cage that she became burrowed into after years of quick “fixes” and excessive rounds of antibiotics ordered by traditional med doctors. Rebekah has continued to strip off the band-aids to uncover the sources and contributors to systemic disease that almost took her life, and more importantly her hope and joy.

Listen in today as Jimmy and Rebekah dip deeply into her story and the fascinating truths she learned about the healing power of keto and her faith.

1668: The Role Of T Cells And Ketone Bodies In The Immune Response To COVID-19 Aug 18, 2020
    Show notes

How does a ketogenic diet affect Covid-19? Do T cells have an impact on your immune response? Find out on Episode 1668 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.

“What if the hydroxybutyrate in your blood could give you a fighting chance when it comes to Covid-19?”

    - Jimmy Moore

A lot of people in the keto and carnivore community right now are discussing the importance of eating better as a means of lowering glucose, inflammation, and insulin levels to improve overall metabolic health. There’s certainly nothing wrong with that messaging and I agree with it for the most part. But what about the role of ketone bodies themselves and how they can help fight viral infections like the seasonal flu and even COVID-19? New research reveals some exciting details. ⁣ ⁣ In this episode of JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show, I read from a 2020 study published in the journal Med entitled “Investigating Ketone Bodies as Immunometabolic Countermeasures against Respiratory Viral Infections” by Brianna J. Stubbs, etal. I’m gonna warn you ahead of time that this is a very science jargon-laden paper (NERD ALERT ) looking at very meticulous pathways by which the ketone body beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) works mechanistically to fight off viral infections. But if you can stick this one out, then it’s pretty fascinating stuff!⁣

We also share about T cells and low-carb diets being the key in your body having a good chance of effectively fighting off COVID-19. The T cells, which are part of your immune system, can actually destroy the virus even without antibody production. How many people have fought off COVID-19 with their T cells and yet have no evidence that they’ve been exposed to the virus? How many more people have been exposed to COVID-19 than are in the statistics? Why aren’t we hearing about this in the national media?⁣ ⁣ As for low-carb diets playing a strong role in this discussion, I share an article from @marikasboros going into detail about statistics of those being ravaged the worst by this virus all being people with the worst metabolic health. And you heal this insulin resistance best with carbohydrate restriction.
