    Show notes

Jimmy peels back the layers on a topic that needs discussing on Episode 1666 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.

“This is real, guys. This is a nightmare waiting to happen.”

    - Jimmy Moore

If you’re the parent of a school-aged child, then no doubt your mind is weighing heavy on the decision about what to do regarding your kid’s education this fall. Schools are trying to figure out what, if any, on campus activities will take place when the school year begins. Most are considering a hybrid plan of both in-person and virtual learning, but it’s a hodgepodge of ideas that every single school district is having to work on individually. ⁣

In this episode of JIMMY RANTS On The LLVLC Show, Jimmy shares the re-opening details of one southern school district given to teachers just this week. He also reads from a news story examinings at how reopening plans in schools around the world have gone so far, looking at what strategies have worked the best. This is a very fluid story and the conversation will no doubt continue all the way until the school year begins in August and September. ⁣

We also look at the topic of suicide and all the elements that make it more real than you might suspect. Jimmy also details what mental health professionals are doing to help ward off this looming mental health and suicide epidemic over the stress of COVID-19. It doesn’t have to be a reality if we all do our part to help the most vulnerable.

1664: Making Food Is Medicine A Reality Requires Recognizing The Role Of Micronutrients In Health Aug 04, 2020
    Show notes

On today’s episode of the LLVLC Show, we take on the topic of food as medicine in this special episode of JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show Episode 1664.

“It’s so much more than just looking at the macros that most diets look to, you see quickly that micro-nutrients have a key role to play.”

    - Jimmy Moore

We’ve heard the adage that is often attributed to Hippocrates, the Greek founder of western medicine, “Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food.” But how do we ensure that the food we are eating is doing its proper job? The often overlooked key to implementing this adage is the role of micronutrients.

So many of us who have embraced real food, keto, carnivore, or some other nutritional health plan already recognize the concept of “food is medicine.” Reversing chronic disease and boosting our health now has become so much a part of our life that we can’t understand why this isn’t implemented by the mainstream medical profession. But a new paper in the British Medical Journal is trying to change that. ⁣ ⁣ In this episode of JIMMY RANTS on the LLVLC Show, Jimmy shares this paper published on June 29, 2020 as part of the BMJ “Food For Thought” series that looks closer at making “food is medicine” a reality in a clinical healthcare setting. There are major challenges to make this a reality, including adding in more nutrition education in medical schools along with providing financial assistance to those who need food security and healthy food for their specific condition. But this paper gives hope that it can and must be done.⁣

1662: Worried About Your Cholesterol? Cut Carbs And Get A CT Heart Scan For Your Coronary Calcium Score (CAC) Jul 28, 2020
    Show notes

Worried about high cholesterol? We take on this topic in this special episode of JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show Episode 1662.

“My problem is, why jump straight to the medicine when we know of other things that work?”

    - Jimmy Moore

For the last couple of decades we’ve all heard that high cholesterol was the number one indicator of heart disease. Even though there has been a lot of nuance added to the discussion, these same tired recommendations seem to permeate the medical advice we are given.

What if I told you that there is a quick, simple, and painless test that costs around $100 that doesn’t look for risk factors for heart disease but actual signs of coronary artery disease taking place? There is and it’s been out there for the past two decades. It’s called a CT Heart Scan and it measures something called the Coronary Calcium Score (CAC) which shows the development of calcified plaque in your coronary arteries. If you get a score of 0, then you sure don’t need that statin no matter what your cholesterol level is! ⁣

Listen in today as Jimmy tackles this subject and brings some clarity to the topic of cholesterol.

1661: Darren McDuffie Answers The Most Difficult Questions In The Discussion Of Race Jul 22, 2020
    Show notes

Wellness IQ proponent Darren McDuffie is our special interview guest on Episode 1661 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.

“Many people do not know how to handle power and don’t know how to handle standing behind a badge and gun.”

    – Darren McDuffie

Darren McDuffie’s mission and heartfelt desire is to be a disseminator of information for those who wish to make a conscious decision regarding their health and wellbeing.

An avid athlete in his younger years, Darren rarely exercised after his playing days were over, even though he had been an athlete all his life. In 2004, his bad eating habits finally caught up with him. He had since transitioned into working for a drug company as a pharmaceutical representative. This meant entertaining doctors and nurses and most of the entertaining involved the catering of lunches and dinners. He found myself eating more and exercising less.

Dire family news shook Darren and he started researching nutrition. As a pharmaceutical representative, he knew that drugs were a quick fix, but not always a fix for the long term.

It took me years of study before he concluded Hippocrates was right when he said,”Let thy food be the medicine and let thy medicine by thy food.” This statement more than anything he had ever read has had a lasting impression on him, and was the catalyst for him evolving into the Phat-Man.

“P-H-A-T” is an acronym for Perfectly Healthy And Toned which materializes naturally when you adopt truth based nutrition, wellness, and heightened levels of consciousness into your your life.

1660: We Deserve Better Nutritional Health Science Which Shows Effectiveness Of Keto Jul 21, 2020
    Show notes

How long have we known that a ketogenic diet is helpful for so many ailments? We take on this topic in this special episode of JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show Episode 1660.

“If you have someone with a disease and a doctor recommends a low-carb diet the patient would be more likely to give it a try.

    – Jimmy Moore

Most of the time when someone is diagnosed by their doctor with Type 2 diabetes, people react much in the same way as if they were told they had cancer or some other health condition they deem as bad. Don’t give me wrong—Type 2 diabetes is indeed a major health concern because it is tied to other chronic diseases like heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, and more. But Type 2 diabetes in and of itself is not a slow march to decline and early death that people think it is. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Unfortunately, because people see it as this dastardly condition that keeps getting progressively worse each year, they listen meticulously to everything their doctor has to say. That includes going on drugs like Metformin and other diabetes medications, eating a low-fat diet consuming lots of fruits and vegetables as well as whole grains, and all the other standard advice for people who have diabetes. When this advice inevitably fails, some people will then be put on injectable insulin—for the rest of their lives! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Does any patient ever ask their doctor what that insulin is for? If they do, then the doctor would say “it’s to control your blood sugar” and the patient will think that’s a good thing. So then they go on this insulin protocol and keep on eating the things that are the culprit in their blood sugar remaining out of control. Madness! ⁣⁣⁣ The lack of patient education on this topic is why people have become frustrated with mainstream advice on treating diabetes. Thankfully, there is new research that shows embracing a low-carb ketogenic diet is the best way to come off of insulin and diabetes medications and put that disease into remission.

    – Jimmy Moore
