    Episode 80 – Rachel Gregory Returns Feb 14, 2018
    Show notes

Today Brian and Danny are joined by a return guest Rachel Gregory as she talks about some recent changes in her nutritional and professional life as well as some info about some new studies she’s been involved with regarding keto use in the CrossFit world. Brian and Danny throw around pop culture references that end up making them feel old. As always a good time is had by all.

    Show notes:

    6:49 – Reviews:

    11:11 – Fascinating facts:

Rachel: Coca-Cola would be green is coloring wasn’t added to it

Brian: Mongooses and cobras are natural enemies because the mongoose wants to eat the cobra. A mongoose is not immune to the venom of the cobra. If a mongoose is bitten, it will die just as quickly as any other animal. It can beat and eat a cobra though because it’s faster and has better reflexes.

Danny: Scientists are getting close to cloning a woolly mammoth. Scientists are also trying to clone extinct ice-age cave lions using their DNA from 12k-year-old remains. A huge liger that’s white with stripes and a short mane. Looks large enough to eat a bison.

    Episode 79 – 6 Hacks to Help Your Keto Feb 07, 2018
    Show notes

Today Brian and Danny share some hacks to help you on your keto journey. We also have a bit of a discussion about the DC cinematic universe, and it’s many woes. Make sure to chime in on the facebook group with your personal hacks and what you’ve found works for you.

    Show notes:

16:32 – Reviews (See full text below)

    22:11 – Fascinating facts:

Brian: (disclaimer: Must believe the lie of a spherical earth to believe today’s fact) A white dwarf star, known as LP327-186 that’s smaller than the state of Texas is so dense that a cubic inch on earth would weight 1.5 million tons. (Brian theorizes that it’s made up of the tears and hopes and dreams of the people who refuse to believe the earth is spherical)

Danny: Listening to “The Big Fat Surprise.” In the 30-year follow up from the Framingham Study, for each 1% mg/dl drop in cholesterol there was an 11% increase in coronary and total Mortality which is completely the opposite of what is commonly claimed in the medical community.

    31:54 – Keto Hacks

    1. Sauna use
      • Heat stress increases endurance
      • prevents atrophy during muscle disuse (due to surge growth hormone)
      • Improves insulin sensitivity by increasing glucose receptors in your muscle cells
      • Increases BDNF and norepinephrine which stimulates the growth of new brain cells via neurogenesis and is associated with longevity
      • LA Times article that talks about study Danny discusses: http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-sauna-health-20150223-story.html
      • Four days a week minimum
      • >20 minutes per session
      • 79℃ or 174℉ or greater
    2. Cut things out
      • There’s a psychological aspect to cutting something vs. adding something
      • Temp or Permanent
      • Sweeteners, dairy, nuts, pork, any food that you think might be giving you an issue
      • You’re not depriving yourself if you’re discovering something about yourself by cutting something out
      • Having smaller menu options helps to make things easier for you
      • If you think you can’t live without something, you might need to try living without it to see how that helps or affects you
      • When experimenting, try to Add to the things you’re cutting out one at a time instead of re-adding things when you remove something else
      • Six weeks is a good baseline period for a test
    3. Carnivore
      • A form of elimination that Brian and Danny are large advocates for
      • Means eating only things that “had a face” and can include all types of meat. You may find you need to cut out specific types of meat to see what works for you
    4. Tracking vs. not Tracking
      • If you’re not getting the results you want switch things up. If you track naturally, stop tracking for a time.
      • Tracking can sometimes add stress. Removing that added stress can be a good thing.
      • If you haven’t tracked and aren’t seeing improvements you want, you might need to try tracking and see if it will uncover something about yourself that you didn’t realize was happening.
    5. Getting bloodwork with a purpose
      • You may find that you are deficient or have a metabolic disorder and having specific things to look at from bloodwork will help you learn about your body and things you need to do to improve your overall health
      • The way you feel every way is likely the best indicator of how healthy you are.
      • Bloodwork readings can help you see more clearly what you can do to improve things.
    6. Take power naps
      • Benefits recovery and overall stress management
      • If you can take power naps a couple of days a week, you should.

Make sure you tag #TKAHacks on the Facebook page what hacks you’ve found work for you.

    Episode 78 – 2018 Plans Jan 31, 2018
    Show notes

“Today Brian and Danny discuss our plans for the year to come. Some of which have rapidly been accelerated thanks to some of the things going on in Brian’s work life. Listen in to find out exactly what is going on and what we can expect to see in the coming year.

    Show notes:

    Brians work change:

7:52 – Intro to today’s topic: What 2018 has in Store

    9:09 – Fascinating facts:

Danny – There are libraries around the world that you can check out Humans as a living book and listen to their stories. Humanlibrary.org where you can choose who you want to check out

Brian – Sharks grow and go through 30k teeth in their lifetimes

    20:39 – Ketovangelist Unlimited

    • Our facebook group for Unlimited is awesome
    • We’ve got a lot of great content planned for the future in the group

    34:19 – Unlimited Reviews

    • Finn MacCumhaill – “10 out of 10 would join again”
    • Laura Fouhse – “This community has helped me to embody holistic health. I have been part of communities that help me with my nutrition… and with my fitness… and other communities help with my mental health… and others with my spiritual health .. but this is the first community that holds it all together. I have found wisdom, support, encouragement, and challenge here that has moved me into greater wellness in all areas of my life. While I have found the wisdom of our leaders – Brian, Danny, and Carrie – to be amazing, it is the collective wisdom of the whole group that is really invaluable to me.”
    • Rachael Mackenzie Thatcher – “Firstly let me start by saying I LOVE WHAT YOU BOTH DO! I was told to go Keto by a trusted and loved friend, and that I should listen to your podcast. So I gave it a crack, and found it funny and yet highly informative. At first, I thought the eating plan was out to sabotage my gainz as I experienced a huge drop in performance. Listening and learning made me realize it was fairly normal. Fast forward to my decision to jump into ‘unlimited’, i had reached out to Danny, when I was looking for so advice (he may not remember) as I knew this WOE had more for me. I jumped into the cutting experiment 2 weeks after sustaining a horrible hamstring injury and saw it as a good time to refocus my Keto lifestyle.
KU has been the catalyst, the knowledge, and love that flows from you both and Carrie is just awesome. Your passion for Keto is infectious.
I’m excited to hear about what’s next, as I have committed myself to ‘do as I’m told’, as I’m seeing some amazing results from the cutting experiment, with the rowing challenge close to finishing, I need to know what’s next 😉”
    • Amy Smith – “My name cannot be butchered haha(Am-why Smit-aha). I’ve always loved all the Ketovangelist podcasts even before I became #unlimited. I feel like I know Brian, Carrie, and Danny. I love being #unlimited because it makes me feel like I’m part of a secret society where we get exclusive information! It’s like sitting at the cool kids’ table. I appreciate the efforts Brian Williamson has put into ALLLL aspects of the “Ketovangelist”. I’m so glad the three of you met, and that this has developed into what it is. I’ve seen numerous sites and Facebook groups that offer up keto information, and you will NEVER get more accurate and true keto ways from ANY other site! Thanks for what you guys do! ✌🏻”
    • Jamie Hunter – “I appreciate this group because I can trust the information provided and the people providing it. Even before KU started, I noticed quickly that the main motive of KS really was to help people be their best. Let’s be real, the Ketogenic success page membership numbers are crazy high now, and you easily could have taken advantage of that. But you didn’t start focusing on peddling products or use the visibility to sell your brands (they are there, but it’s not even a prominent message. It was several weeks before I knew there were coaches or Ballistic Keto), which is what so many other people are doing. When I was starting out keto there were so many voices, with so many different ideas of what keto looks like and I’m thankful I got most of my information here (KS) first. I signed up for a ton of groups and newsletters and have found most of them sorely lacking or entirely built around a premise to sell supplements, etc. There are so many people just trying to make a quick buck because of the expanding conversation around keto and sell it as another diet. Also, having a group that takes time to answer questions with experience, science and research is amazing. The internet is full of groups that can tell you what Dr. Oz said 😂, and ain’t nobody got time for that. I have no problem paying such a small amount to have access to quality information and committed individuals with a broad knowledge base.”

    55:36 – Ballistic brand updates:

    • Ballistic Keto, MCT oil powder that’s flavored now has 4 flavors and has been hard to keep in stock
    • Working on single-serve packages, coffee, new flavors of MCT oil, and possibly things like collagen
    • Brian has so far been a one-man show having to unload 2k pounds of oil manually from the tractor-trailer on the street to his house at least 2 times each time he gets a delivery but will have daughter helping with fulfillment soon

1:02:45 – Brand new things to come:

    • Possible book deal for Brian and Danny
    • Possible performing clothing line, watch for pre-sales links.

    1:08:34 Performance Coaching update:

    • Really good results and feedback from the performance coaching project so far
    • Current partnership is between Brian, Danny, Maura, Robert Sykes, Crystal Love currently but the group will expand with time
    • More exciting stuff to come in this area hopefully soon

    1:10:36 – (Robin Switzer) KetoCon 2018

    • June 15-17th – Science and stories of keto
    • Really great speakers
    • VIP stuff
    • Food onsite that is totally keto
    • Crap-ton of vendors
    • and last but not least is the Keto community
    • The best part of this particular KetoCon, Incredibles 2 is coming out

19:48 Variability of Cholesterol and how blood-work may not matter quite as much as we are lead to think

    • A significant test that is often left out is the Fasting Insulin test

23:56 One of the most important questions is actually “How am I performing/feeling?” vs. “What do the numbers and blood-work say.”

28:19 N=Many shows all the data

    • Not all data is positive but still leads to good information
    • World Carnivore Month Facebook group(link down below)

    29:44 Response to the study

    • Some degree of bias
    • No one died, and no one got scurvy
    • quite a few dramatic improvements in both health and performance
    • saw many reports of less inflammation and feeling of being beaten up from workouts and training after going carnivore

35:10 Traditional methods vs. Carnivore for building muscle and getting big

    • What are muscles made of
    • Stimulus of the muscles is just as, if not more-so, important than what you eat
    • Example of the Lion being fully a carnivore but super muscular
    • ketones might be anabolic

43:29 When aiming for a carnivore diet, I keep slipping up, what should I do?

    51:35 Rowing Masterclass

    • Damper settings
    • Foot position
    • Wear flat shoes or row barefoot
    • Try low rate short interval sprints at max effort to increase power
    • Stoke Power Index calculator: http://www.machars.net/
    • Learn when you hit your pain point and learn how to push through it, it’s just a short time.
    • Tip: Start rowing without your feet strapped in to help learn proper form

    A mantra to live by:

Row, eat meat, & be happy (that could go on a shirt!!)

He has dedicated his life to the service of others, and is a passionate believer in the benefits of healthy living. But Danny and I wanted to talk to him about the importance of exercising the spirit. Being strong in mind and body are important, but that’s not all there is. You also need to have a strong spirit, and that means accepting that there is something out there bigger than you. Whether it’s God, the Universe, or Humanity, it’s important that you flex your spiritual muscles as much as your guns.
