Show notes

Signs, signs, a-everywhere signs. Jim has looked better. Sand stores are making a killing.

A Quiet Place is about a family that must live in total silence after an alien invasion. Despite strict security measures the family has to fight for their lives against beings that hunt for prey using only sound. Watch John Krasinski (The Office) direct and star with his wife Emily Blunt in this box office hit.

046 Cabin In The Woods: The Shape of Slaughter Mar 30, 2018

Show notes

Making out with wolf heads. Coffee mug bongs. Inappropriate betting pools. Mermen.

Cabin in the Woods follows five teenagers as they take an innocent trip to a remote cabin on a college break. At the same time, they are being monitored by some sort of organization that is trying to manipulate their behavior for mysterious motives. The brainchild of Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon, this meta-horror movie breathed fresh life into the horror genre at the time and remains an instant classic today.

Join the TPM crew as they debate the weakest scary creature to survive against and get trapped in the podcast studio until they sacrifice their time reviewing 2012's 'Cabin in the Woods'.

Show Segments:

Debate Question (01:49): Best creature to survive against
Movie Review (17:00): Cabin in the Woods (2012)
What Would You Do Differently? (49:41)
Awards (52:29)

045 Unsane: Stop, Hammer Time! Mar 23, 2018

Show notes

For-profit healthcare. Lax background checks. iPhone video filters. Shady shivs.

Steven Soderbergh's 'Unsane' is his first foray into horror films and he debuts with a (camera flash) bang. Made for only a little over $1 million, Soderbergh makes a big movie with a little camera by letting actress Claire Foy (The Crown) take over the film with a varied and tense performance. The acting shines in the film and the story is engaging and doesn't let up.

Join the TPM crew as we debate the merits of iPhone filmmaking and voluntarily commit ourselves to the podcast studio to discuss new released Unsane.

Show Segments:

Debate Question (01:53): The merits of iPhone filming
Movie Review (10:42): Unsane (2018)
What Would You Do Differently? (50:36)
What's the sequel? (56:26)
Final Cut (01:00:51): Movie review scores from hosts and guests

044 Leprechaun 4 In Space: Hide Your Kids, Hide Your Gold Mar 16, 2018

Show notes

Worst marines ever. A character named 'Books'. Nazi space scientists. Leprechaun gonorrhea.

Whenever a horror franchise runs out of ideas you might as well send the villain to space. The one thing going for the Leprechaun franchise is that it is the Neil Armstrong of going to space where Friday the 13th is the Buzz Aldrin. Leprechaun 4 continues the series with a straight-to-VHS entry that inexplicably sends Warwick Davis to space for reasons. With this stellar representation of Irish culture, happy St. Patrick's Day!

Join the TPM crew as they kidnap unsuspecting victim Tom and force him to watch 1997's dubious ode to science fiction 'Leprechaun 4: In Space'.

Show Segments:

Debate Question (10:28): Where do you hide your gold?
Movie Review (17:57): Leprechaun 4: In Space (1997)
What Would You Do Differently? (01:05:07)
Awards (01:07:15)
Final Cut (01:10:35): Movie review scores from hosts and guests

043 The Strangers 2 Prey at Night: Stranger Danger Mar 09, 2018

Show notes

Mobile homes. Questionable parenting. American trucks. Mask work.

'The Strangers: Prey at Night' is the sequel to 2008's 'The Strangers' which featured Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman. Loosely tied to the original, the three masked killers are now tormenting a family who is staying in an abandoned mobile home park on their way to their daughter's boarding school. If you're looking for more story, there's not much more than that - other than the killers toy with the family for unknown reasons.

Join the TPM crew as they troll the mobile podcast homestead with first time unsuspecting victim Anthony. After trying to escape in a passing truck they're forced to discuss the disappointing 'The Strangers: Prey at Night'.

Show Segments:

Debate Question (03:50): Your best mask for 'The Strangers'
Movie Review (10:32): Strangers 2: Prey at Night (2018)
What Would You Do Differently? (42:33)
Awards (48:22)
Final Cut (52:04): Movie review scores from hosts and guests

042 Get Out: Meet the Parents Mar 02, 2018

Show notes

Ill-advised hypnosis. Casual racism. Overt racism. T-S-motherfucking-A.

2017's Get Out is one of most refreshing horror movies in years. Nodding to horror's past while moving the genre forward, aping iconic films but setting trends in its own right and finally getting the Academy to nominate a horror movie for Best Picture - Get Out is truly an instant classic. Starting a huge run for horror releases in 2017, Get Out released in February with moderate fanfare and turned into one of the most profitable movies of all time, making over $250 million dollars worldwide on a budget of $5 million.

To top it all off, this massive hit was the directorial debut of well-known comedian Jordan Peele. Peele was best known for being one half of the sketch comedy duo Key & Peele (big up Children's Hospital too!), but now is an extremely sought-after director and producer. Peele is lending his talents to a Twilight Zone tv revival, another TV show with 'Lovecraft' literally in its title and numerous rumored movies.

Join the TPM crew as they literally podcast from the suburbs for the first time. After regaling each other with terrible in-law stories the crew roots on Get Out for its 4 Oscar nominations (suck it Phantom Thread).

Show Segments:

Debate Question (02:46): Worst meeting the parents scenario
Movie Review (14:42): Get Out (2017)
What Would You Do Differently? (49:22)
Awards (53:29)
Final Cut (57:24): Movie review scores from hosts and guests

041 Wish Upon: Magical Jukebox Feb 23, 2018

Show notes

Shitty teens. Shitty dumpster diving. Shitty Chinese demons. Shitty time travel.

2017's Wish Upon is the ultimate in mediocre teen horror films. The movie tries to build upon the foundation of better teen horror classics like The Craft and the Final Destination franchise but its wish never quite gets fulfilled. Not even former teen icon Ryan Philippe can make you stop wishing for your time back on this one.

Join the TPM crew as they wish for 90 minutes of their lives back and try to find anything redeemable about the off-brand Final Destination plot of 'Wish Upon'.

Show Segments:

Debate Question (03:16): What wish would you make?
Movie Review (09:03): Wish Upon (2017)
What Would You Do Differently? (46:18)
Awards (52:00)
Final Cut (55:20): Movie review scores from hosts and guests

040 The Suckling: Wrap It Up Feb 17, 2018

Show notes

Sketchy waste disposal practices. Rapid evolution. Gross Johns. Extremely overt messaging.

The Suckling is an extremely low-budget creature feature from 1990. Now available on Amazon Prime Video, this film redefines the term 'pro-life' and makes one wonder why this movie was allowed to be given birth.

Join the TPM crew as they enter the shady, back-alley podcast studio to discuss the premature birth of 1990's terrible horror flick 'The Suckling'.
