Making A Career Change After 50 With Susie Miles Jan 22, 2022
    Show notes

Susie Miles didn't make a sudden pivot to leave her television job after 20+ years. She exercised what we called a "Slow Burn Pivot" where she planned for 4 years for her career pivot. She wanted to make sure she was ready in all ways, mentally and financially. And because of her planning, she has found herself successful and FREE.
Here are some takeaways from our conversation today:
    1. Signs that it may be time for a pivot - Constant Feelings of restlessness, that there has to be more, and feelings of what am I doing wrong that I feel this way.

    2. Utilize the Slow burn pivot - if you need, take time to prepare yourself financially and mentally to make a big change.

    3. All little steps toward something new eventually start to become reality.

    4. It’s natural to feel nervous as you are getting ready to pull the trigger on your pivot. But set a time/date that you are going to do it so that it is firmly in your mind and plan. Otherwise it could drag on and on.

    5. In order to get clarity on the next thing you are going to do, just try some things on, Your first try may not be it, but keep at it. You may even marry two of your interests together into one new path.

    6. While you may go through a period of being scared or afraid, once you have made the commitment to a pivot, you can expect a feeling of excitement and freedom.

    7. When you are working on something that feels more in your path, it feels a lot less like work and get you into the flow.

    8. Don’t let fear grip you. Even if you only work on that pivot 5 or 10 minutes a day, it really helps to break down that fear. Doing just a little bit every day - leads to the most amazing outcomes.

    9. You’ll never get rid of fear, but let it exist NEXT to you, not in front of you where it can block you.

    10. Start paying attention to the feelings and reactions you have in certain situations. Notice your triggers of jealousy, anxiety. This will help you pinpoint some issues that you may be having about making your pivot.

    11. Pivots don’t have to be HUGE. You could make little pivots here and there to build up your Pivot muscle. And you are allowed to use that - we all need to work on our Pivot Muscles.

    12. Getting tired of your own procrastination is a real thing. Tell yourself to Just DO IT already!

    13. If you feel that after 50 that everything is downhill from here, that is so not true. We all have so much time left and you have to take advantage of it before it takes advantage of you. So much more can be accomplished in the years ahead.
I hope you are as happy for Susie as I am. And if you feel that this episode could help someone else, please share. And don't forget to FOLLOW, SUBSCRIBE, RATE, and REVIEW - the BIG FOUR!

Have Big Goals? Small Habits Lead To Big Changes With Triathlete Leah Jantzen Jan 19, 2022
    Show notes

Mindset Coach Leah Jantzen is here to dust us off from our failed resolutions and help us put a plan together to make real change. She encourages us to start small, create good habits and build on those to develop confidence in ourselves.
Some takeaways from our conversation include:
    1. The process of getting started in something new is - being bad at something, working through it, getting better. Rinse and Repeat. This builds confidence.

    2. Setting too many unrealistic resolutions or choosing too many resolutions is an automatic set up for failure.

    3. Go Deep with Less. Choose Two to three things tops. For example, Instead of saying I’m going to lose 50 pounds, say I’m going to be more healthy, I’m going to move my body for 10 minutes a day, I’m going to drink more water. Start there. Develop new habits and build on those.

    4. The most important thing that you can do that will keep you on track is to develop your WHY. It will keep you going each day even when it sucks or it’s hard. SOUNDBITE

    5. Visualization is the key to train your brain to “see” what you are working toward.

    6. Know that when you working toward something, the path probably won’t be linear. You may lose 5 pounds, then gain two, then lose 3 and gain 1. This is where mindset work comes in. You have to see through those roadblocks and be present in the moment.

    7. Surround yourself with the right people that know what you are up against to help you and give you support. A coach, A community, An Accountability partner

    8. If someone close to you isn’t supportive, know that it’s not about you, it’s about them. And if you don’t bend to their pressure, they’ll respect you more and you’ll be setting a great example for them.

    9. There is no instant gratification. If you are in it, know that it may be slow going. You just have to stay with it. Have faith in the process.

    10. Come up with your own highlight reel to help you on days when the mental battle is real.

    11. Every single person struggles with motivation sometimes. You are not the only one.

    12. Don’t reward yourself with going backward - choose something related or in alignment to your goal. Don’t celebrate losing 10 pounds with ice cream. Celebrate with a new outfit.

    13. You don’t need permission to go after something you want. Know that you are worthy of wanting better or more for yourself.

    14. You’re going to fail. Nobody cares. Nobody is watching and you’ll be judged either way. Just think about what’s good for you. SOUNDBITE.

    15. There is no perfect time for anything. There’s no too late. there’s no too early. You’re exactly where you are and where you’re supposed to be.
We all have bad days. We all have failed resolutions or goals we didn't reach. It doesn't mean we have to stop reaching for a better us.

[REPLAY] Benefits of Whole Food Nutrition with Nancy McElwain Jan 15, 2022
    Show notes

Nutrition therapist and exercise physiologist Nancy McElwain is talking about the benefits of whole food nutrition and how it helps heal the body by dealing with issues of individual systems as part of the whole. She also gives us advice on charging the body up to help deal with the aging process.
    Among the topics are:
    1. Holistic nutrition looks at the inter-connectiveness of things and how the body works as a whole and uses food to heal body issues by giving individual body systems what it needs.
    2. Western medicine looks to heal symptoms while the holistic approach looks to solve the root cause.
    3. The holistic approach is very simple and requires you to go back to the basics of nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle choices.
    4. Stress management is key for your digestive process.
    5. A lot of your neurotransmitters are made in your gut, including serotonin, your happy neurotransmitters.
    6. A lot of your immune system surrounds your gut so there is a strong connection between them. Happy gut, happy body.
    7. We are what we eat, we are what we eat eats. Basically what we eat and what it eats becomes part of us.
    8. Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels.
    9. Adding in whole foods gets you a long way, but some supplements help - Omega fats, B12, D, Vitamin C, Magnesium, and Zinc are among them.
    10. During menopause, it is very important to support the adrenals and the liver and the jobs they do. Clean eating is key.
    11. Eating healthy is not a pass-fail. Anything you can do better your nutrition is a win.

Mastering Your Money Mindset And Knowing Your Worth With Olivia Jaras Jan 12, 2022
    Show notes

Olivia Jaras is an absolute powerhouse. I am just in awe of her work with women to help them realize what they are worth and get paid that amount.
    Takeaways:

    1. Women need to know what they are worth and know how to ask for it.
    2. All women have a gold mine between their ears and they just have to learn how to use it.
    3. As a society we determine a person’s worth based on the price tag they have. Whether we like it or not, money is a measure of worth. And as a result, it is also our primary measure of self-worth.
    4. Women use their multi-tasking tool against ourselves.
    5. By the fact that we don’t sense we’re worthy of money, we close off any opportunity to call it in and attract it to us.
    6. What you focus on grows.
    7. Every person was created with a gift - something that they bring that should be allowed to expand, grow, and proliferate.
    8. When you feel you deserve something your focus on it is very different. When you feel you want a million dollars, but you don’t feel like you deserve it, you’re not going to bring it in.
    9. But If you believe you deserve the money, then your mind will be open to receiving the it.
    10. The emotional guidance system that women have is an internal guide that tells you whether you are getting closer or farther from your dreams.
    11. Your dream is a seed. It needs water, sun and a space to grow.
    12. A lot of women have been living with the seed of their dream for decades. They don’t move it forward because they think of all the bad stuff that happens as roadblocks. But you must see those roadblocks as gifts of contrast because there is never a point in reality that you make it clearer to you as to what you want.
    13. Being rich is having money, being wealthy is having time.
    14. There are a lot of rich people who are jerks, but there are also a lot of poor people who are jerks.
    15. Money is not the end goal. Money is the catalyst for your purpose. Don’t give it any more credit than that. It is just a resource.
    16. We seem to think that money is a scarce resource. but the supply of money has never shrunk. In fact it has grown.
    17. If you can get yourself to believe that you are worthy, then the snowball effect in inevitable. Worth and Money follow each other.
    18. There is no such thing as a fixed income because you have the ability to create other multiple revenue streams in your life.

I certainly hope you have enjoyed this conversation with Olivia and I encourage you to SUBSCRIBE and SHARE with other women, because like Olivia says, women making more money will make the world a better place. You just have to decide that you DESERVE it.

Rediscovering The Art Of Conversation With Sandi McKenna Jan 09, 2022
    Show notes

Sandi McKenna is a powerhouse and has an amazing story to tell, up through her travels on her travel show - MidLife Road Trip to becoming a Private Investigator during the pandemic.
Now she has added podcast host and is launching "Unforgettable Conversations" this week.
Sandi and I talk about her journey and then we get down to how conversation has become a lost art and how to go about rediscovering that ability and how important it really is.
Some of the things we talk about include:
    1. You have to nurture a natural curiosity throughout life.

    2. If you have fear of traveling, you have to let FOMO help you push past those fears

    3. Traveling to an actual place far outweighs seeing it in a magazine or on screen.

    4. When traveling, take the ON-Off bus in order to get a great travel impact. It’s like a sampler platter.

    5. Work hard to be a good listener. It will change every interaction.

    6. In order to build the art of conversations in our children, we need to implement the dinner table interactions. Use the time to tell relatable stories.

    7. When engaging in conversation, find a common thread. There is usually always one there.

    8. Not only do you learn about others in conversation, you learn a lot about yourself.

    9. Don’t ever limit yourself.

    10. You can’t expect perfection of yourself or of anyone else around you.

Ego, Power, & Saying Yes To The Hero's Journey With Christian de la Huerta Jan 05, 2022
    Show notes

Author Christian de la Huerta has so many amazing things to share and teach us about the hero's journey, ego, the soulful self, and power plays as we discuss his book "Awakening the Soul of Power: How to Live Heroically and Set Yourself Free".
    Some takeaways:

    1. The empowerment of women is the single most important thing that needs to happen in the world in order in bring balance to the masculine and feminine energies.
    2. We are all heroes in daily life every time we transcend the human propensity to feel victimized. When we have the ability to pause and bring choice and not strike out.
    3. To start on the heroic journey you first have to answer the call and say yes. Then leave the comfort zone or the familiar and face struggle before coming home to share your wisdom.
    4. It is necessary to understand how our ego mind works because that is the source of all of our suffering.
    5. Our ego is a baseball in the center of a baseball stadium. Who we are is the stadium, but we’ve allowed this small thing of ego to think it is all of who we are. And we are always making important decisions from this very small, fear based perspective.
    6. The ego is full of extremes. From feeling superior to feeling inferior in an instant.
    7. Treating ourselves as a victim or seeing ourselves as a victim is one of our blind spots. We have a vested interested in staying in the “Poor Me”. If only it wasn’t for this or that, I’d be happy.
    8. On this heroic journey - if we hold someone or something outside of us responsible for our happiness or our state of being, we are giving our power away.
    9. Life is always going to throw us curveballs, we can always choose how we show up in response. And that slight refrain changes everything - it pops us out of victim mode.
    10. Become aware of what the ego is and how it works and how it is getting you stuck in certain patterns. Self awareness is first step.
    11. Breaking out of the ego prison can’t be done over night. It has to be done in bite sized pieces.
    12. Investigate In which relationships do you give your power away? Are there patterns and what are the circumstances?
    13. Breath work helps in healing of initial misunderstandings. Any self-awareness practice is recommended. It may be boring 90% of the time and your mind will wander. But the benefit is that it is a practice of becoming self aware and present.
    14. Our soulful self if our the higher self - our own authentic self. It is our own sacred real estate. If the divine is everywhere then its in us too. That’s where our intuition and best potential and wisdom lives.
    15. The ego is the monkey mind and is so loud. It has something to say about everything and everybody. We have to learn out to quiet it through meditation so that we can hear the voice of our inner soul.
    16. While the ego has many words and big words, the soul uses simple language like yep, no, I wouldn’t go there, etc.
    17. We get confused about power and we avoid conflict because we are afraid of our emotions. But emotions are energy. If we suppress those emotions they take their toll on us physically.
    18. We are the only ones that can give our power away.

[REPLAY] Estate Planning Over 50 With Nicole Willet-Jones Jan 01, 2022
    Show notes

Today I am sitting down with estate attorney Nicole Willet-Jones who is sharing such important information about getting our estate affairs in order to give us piece of mind in this area.
The things we talk about today:
    1. Things to think about going into estate planning -
    a. What is your goal? Who are you taking care of?
    b. How do you own things? Joint or Individual
    c. Getting organized
    d. Personal items distribution
    2. This is good time to look at other financial planning and getting your beneficiaries on other retirement, life insurance policies updated or making sure they are correct.
    3. Getting your Living Will in place. This is your healthcare surrogate. This is also important for your children over 18 and especially for single people.
    4. Getting your Power of Attorney in place. This will give your choice of person the authority to take care of financial and legal matters. Also important for our children over 18 to put into place.
    5. An executor is similar to a POA, but we must pick someone who has the capacity to be able to handle our affairs as it is a time consuming job.
    6. Time to do an inventory of all of your accounts, user names and passwords in order for your executor to be able to easily access your information on when things are due, how you pay for them, and ability to cancel subscriptions.

The New Old You - My NEW Episode 0 Dec 31, 2021
    Show notes

You have found The New Old You and I’m your host Lesley McShane.
If you’re like me, you wear a lot of hats. wife, mother, sister, daughter, employee and you’re over 50. When I turned 50, there was total shock at how fast I got here. I felt fabulous on one hand, but completely lost on the other.
How did I get HERE? And why isn’t HERE where I want to be? After listening to other women, I learned I wasn’t the only one and that there are so many of us that feel this way.

This podcast is for a community of women like us who are dealing with and solving all types of issues surrounding this phase of life. It is a place to be reminded that it is time to create space for yourself for a change and that your voice is strong and knowledgable. Basically that age doesn’t define being able to do scary, new things.

Midlife means that we still have half of it to live. So why can’t the second 50 years be the best half?

This podcast is available every Wednesday with solo episodes as well as interviews with guests who teach and inspire us to follow our hearts. We’ll also be encouraged to develop habits and motivation to keep us moving through the fear of change. This is a space for us to explore and find parts of ourselves that we may have been forgotten along the way.

Most of all this podcast is here to tap you on the shoulder and whisper in your ear “I see you, all the good and the bad, and I think you’re pretty amazing.”

So sit down here next to me and let’s celebrate you - The New Old You.

Ways To Fuel Your Weight Loss Journey With Leslie Lindsey Davis Dec 29, 2021
    Show notes

Leslie Lindsey Davis lost 100 pounds. And she did it by putting a stake in the ground and deciding to become healthy in three ways: Physically, Emotionally, and Mentally. In today's episode she shares ways for all of us to fuel our journey to lose weight by filling the the self-sized hole that we may have in our lives.
    Takeaways:
    1. A lot of times when we are starting a journey to discover or better ourselves, we find that there is a self-sized hole in our hearts that we are desperate to fill with food or some other vice.

    2. It’s usually pretty apparent to yourself when you are unhealthy, but you may not be sure about how to go about getting healthy - mentally, physically and emotionally. You just have to start small in each of these areas.

    3. Put your stake in the ground - know that you NEED to change and then control what you can control.

    4. The brain likes hits of endorphins, good or bad, so pay yourself with good words and behaviors. Be aware of what you are saying to yourself and make it good, instead of bad.

    5. There aren’t any bad choices. There are not so good choices, good choices, and great choices.

    6. There are no CHEAT days or CHEAT meals. Think about the words you are saying because they have deep meaning on how we think. You can only cheat on taxes, test, and on your spouse. Everything else is a choice.

    7. Little lies we tell ourselves: If you eat a broken cookie there are no calories. If you eat off someone else's plate it doesn’t count. The thing you realize is that the only person you are lying to is yourself. The outside world can see the evidence of you lie.

    8. When you begin the journey of finding yourself pack your bag with things that will help you. Create a relationship with yourself though journaling because when you can see the words on paper and can reread them, you can do something with it.

    9. When you having a bad day and want to sabotage your journey, stop and ask yourself what is really going on.

    10. Take progress photos of yourself on the journey - because our brains are trained to keep a picture of us and what we looked like at the beginning. Throughout these progress photos, not only will you see progress in your health, but in your mental and emotional lightness as well.

    11. Get rid of clothes that don’t fit anymore. Don’t hang onto them because they mentally give you permission to go backward. Those clothes are reminder of who you used to be. They don’t serve you anymore.

    12. A journey is a ME thing, not a WE thing. But you need a team - A person that will support you no matter what and be non-judgmental. And then find someone who can help you with your exercise and fitness.

    13. Learn to be inefficient - for example, when loading in your groceries, take only two bags at a time and make more trips. Meet yourself where you are.
