How to Struggle Well May 04, 2021
    Show notes

Want a clearer picture of what’s working in your business—and what needs attention? Take the free 12 Fundamentals Assessment for a personalized score and your clearest next step: 12fundamentals.com

Growth requires struggle, that’s a given, but your growth and the growth of those you lead is dependent on how you respond to that struggle. Will you respond poorly, or will you struggle well? Today’s episode is about how to struggle well and the difference between healthy struggle and toxic struggle. But before we get into it, let’s cover three quick principles.

    · Struggle and meaning are often intertwined

    · There's often value on the other side of struggle

    · Too much struggle, for too long can kill you

Four differences between healthy struggle and toxic struggle:

    1. Healthy struggle hurts. Toxic struggle harms.

    · Hurt is temporary. Harm is irreparable.

    2. Healthy struggle aligns with stated values. Toxic struggle compromises stated values.

    · Prolonged seasons of struggle that have caused you to compromise values that you hold are toxic.

    3. Healthy struggle asks who am I becoming? Toxic struggle asks how am I appearing?

    · Stop worrying about looking successful, start focusing on being successful.

    4. Healthy struggle can be enjoyed and embraced. Toxic struggle can't.

    · You cannot find fulfillment by compounding misery

Action steps for someone who is living in toxic struggle:

    · Own it. You will never fix what you refuse to see.

    · Tell someone you trust. Growth never occurs in isolation.

    · Have the faith necessary to do less in pursuit of being someone that is healthy and able to serve others over the long haul.

    · Resolve to find a way to love your days. Don't spend all your time working to create a future that you will one day love. Spend your time loving right now.

Our whole team is rooting for you. We want to see you win!

Remember, my strength is not for me; your strength is not for you; our strength is for service.

Ask Better Questions Apr 20, 2021

A great leader asks great questions because a leader's effectiveness is based on their questions, not their answers. The quality of your conversation reflects the quality of your questions.

Communication is a skill, not an identity. It’s not something you are born with; it is a discipline, something you practice and learn through repetition. But before you can be great at communication have to learn three things:

    1. Confidence, in the process of practice, confidence is gained.
    2. Humility, if you aren’t humble, you can’t ask good questions. Everyone around you knows something that you don’t.
    3. Trust, they need to trust that you care about them. You need to trust that they will respect your time with attention.

Five types of questions for leaders:

Tactical Questions: Day-to-day questions that provide an incremental return.

    • Never use a person to do the job Google was built for.

Strategic Questions: Look at the big picture

    • “In light of where I want to go, what is the best next step?
    • Strategic questions demand vision.

Perspective Questions: Acknowledge our emotional and situational enmeshment.

    • We need to make decisions rationally and logically, so we need someone who is not emotionally invested in the present situation.
    • We need to see our leadership from every angle on the table, so we need to ask perspective questions.

Expansionary Questions: Dare to envision a future that doesn't yet exist.

    • Think about a future beyond your comfort zone.
    • Expansionary questions are the enemy of complacency

Principle-Based Questions: Rely on transcendent truth and focus on making that principle remarkably practical.

    • Observe a principle and then make it practical.
    • Sit down with people you trust, state a principle and ask, "how do you see that plays out for us"?

Our whole team is rooting for you. We want to see you win!

So he launched two businesses, and along the way, he learned how to build a business bigger than himself. Seventeen years after launching Chris's business AZPRO has grown to over 90 team members. In addition to leading AZPRO, Chris is also a Certified Pinnacle Business Guide & EOS Implementer and works with Next Level Growth to help business leaders get more consistency, control, and freedom.

Maximize Your Morning Apr 06, 2021
    Show notes

Want a clearer picture of what’s working in your business—and what needs attention? Take the free 12 Fundamentals Assessment for a personalized score and your clearest next step: 12fundamentals.com

Bad habits are rooted in what you do. Good habits are rooted in who you are. In order to make the most of your morning, start by asking yourself: who are you called to be?

The morning is the kingpin of the day, how you start it matters A LOT because:

    1. The person that you become is a result of what you repeatedly do
    2. You never have to recover from a strong start
    3. As your morning, so goes your day

Start your day right so you can serve others best, develop a morning ritual by starting small and stacking habits on top of each other. Get rid of distractions, eliminate potential roadblocks. Determine your ideal wake-up time by finding the optimal struggle, find something that is just a little outside of your comfort zone but try to get 7-8 hours of sleep. But don’t just rip off someone else’s morning, stay true to yourself work on creating your own by answering the question: who are you called to be.

Are You Leading With A Clenched Fist? Mar 16, 2021

Leading with a clenched fist creates:

    • Anxiety that increases proportionally to your growth
    • Fear that you will one day lose control
    • Resentment that you can’t have or retain the thing you most need, control

Seven questions to determine if you are leading with a clenched fist:

    1. Have your attitude, actions, and well-being become beholden to an outcome?
    2. Is worry about work keeping you from being present at home?
    3. Do you need to be involved in the process?
    4. Are you overextended and overcommitted yet unwilling to let go?
    5. Is your health, family, or faith suffering because of prolonged seasons of overwork?
    6. Are you actively working to portray an image of having it all figured out?
    7. Have you lost the ability to love what you do right now?
