Beekeepers Natural is a wellness company that makes innovative products made from healing hive compounds, but they are also on a mission to save the bees! My personal favorite product is the propolis throat spray, made from the immune system of the hive it has incredible germ fighting properties and is something I always have on hand when traveling and when I feel the need for extra immune support. And I also love B. Powered which combines all the superfoods of the hive of propolis, royal jelly, energizing bee pollen, and—of course— honey, I've been putting this in my afternoon tea for an energy boost. And the superfood cacao honey, made with Ecuadorian cacao and sustainably sourced honey is so delicious drizzled on yogurt, smoothies and on my toast too!

137: Using Bee Products for Your Health and the Health of the Planet with Carly Stein of Beekeeper's Naturals Dec 20, 2019
    Show notes

As founder and CEO of the wellness brand Beekeeper's Naturals, Carly's mission is to improve the health of humans and bees alike, which is why she left her job on the trading floor at Goldman Sachs to launch Beekeeper's Naturals full-time in 2016.

Beekeeper's Naturals is on a mission to revamp your medicine cabinet. Rather than relying on conventional products, their potent nutraceuticals are made from plant extracts and powerful remedies from the beehive—like royal jelly, propolis, and bee pollen. To make the most out of what nature has to offer, Carly and her team use scientific rigor to craft the highest quality solutions to everyday health issues—like brain fog, low energy, and scratchy throats.

As a beekeeper and a tireless advocate for the preservation of the waning global bee population, Carly is dedicated to using her company as a platform to make a difference and raise awareness for the bee cause. Carly was recently recognized as a game-changing entrepreneur on the 2019 Forbes 30 Under 30 list.

    In this episode we discuss:

    • Carly's background to beginning her company Beekeeper's Naturals and how it is rooted in her own health journey.
    • BKN's mission to improve the health of you, the bees and the planet and how those are all interconnected
    • Understanding how bees contribute to the global ecosystem and how factors, like pesticide use, are affecting the decline of the bee population
    • How using bee products can improve your health, such as how propolis improves your immune system
    • Understanding each part of the bee hive (propolis, royal jelly, bee pollen and honey) and the role they have in the hive and also how they each can improve your health
    • Victoria and Carly's favorite BKN products
    • Why balance is a fundamental part of the wellness journey

While this conversation is geared towards people with IBS, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, these strategies can really be used by anyone experiencing digestive symptoms.

For a decade of my life, I had terrible IBS.

133: The Benefits of Adding Essential Oils in Your Life with Becca Bristow RD/N Dec 06, 2019
    Show notes

Y'all I am so excited about today's episode! I started following Becca Bristow about a year ago when we connected on the conversation of Intuitive Eating, and have become RD-online-friends and feel so honored to say that! Becca came on the show today to share about her business, being a mother, her passion for intuitive eating and we also spend a ton of time chatting the benefits of essential oils. Becca is a wonderful educator on how to use essential oils, and if you've been wondering why you should add essential oils to your wellness journey and how to do so, this conversation is for you!

If you don't know Becca, she is a Registered Dietitian, wife, dog lover, content creator, DIY fiend, oily lady, and homebody. She is the content creator of the popular You Tube channel under her name, Becca Bristow, and a very inspiring entrepreneur and dietitian. One of my favorite things about Becca is how she shares tips, education and inspiration in a very laid back, easy to digest way. Conversations on health and nutrition and even essential oils can become so complicated so quickly, and she does such a good job of truly helping you understand and digest these complex conversations- which to me is a true sign of someone who knows their stuff.

    In this episode we discuss:

    • Becca's story to starting her own business and YouTube channel
    • Her personal story trying essential oils for the first time
    • How essential oils improved her period pain
    • The benefits of using essential oils
    • The best oils to start with and ideas for how to add them to your life
    • Why intuitive eating is just biological eating
    • Intuitive eating and baby led weaning in children

132: Understanding How to Apply Gentle Nutrition Dec 03, 2019
    Show notes

If you've never heard of the term gentle nutrition before, this is the approach and mindset to applying nutrition in the intuitive eating paradigm. The term gentle nutrition comes from the final of the ten principles of Intuitive Eating, called honor your health with gentle nutrition. Gentle nutrition allows for individuality understanding we all feel different eating different ways, for our own convictions and values, and for our own health needs, too. While its common in the intuitive eating community to avoid the nutrition conversation, this can sometimes lead to more confusion on the subject. I also think understanding nutrition can often help us reject diet mentality and appreciate what food does to us and for us, too.

In this episode I share how we approach the conversation of gentle nutrition with clients, when its appropriate to consider nutrition in your intuitive eating journey and some specific examples of what gentle nutrition looks and feels like. At the end of the day, nutrition is quite simple and is highly individualized and intuitive eating encourages us to explore how we feel when we eat.

Thank you to Encircled for sponsoring today's episode. Encircled is a clothing company that focuses on using premium sustainable and luxurious fabrics made from naturally derived materials. They align so much with my values not only because of this, but also because they care about who and how they clothing is made, with 100% of their collection made in Toronto, CA by fairly paid workers. One of their most popular designs is the dressy sweatpant and I'm obsessed with how comfy yet stylish it is, which literally defines how I buy clothes these days! You can use the code NOURISHINGWOMENPODCAST to get $20 off your order of $100 or more, and can be used on Encircled's Canadian site or Global site.

There are a few holistic options I always recommend to support your immune system this year, and one of my favorite things to encourage is using elderberry syrup. Y'all know I absolutely love New Chapter and everything they make, and that includes their elderberry syrup! New Chapter's Elderberry Syrup Advanced Immune Defense contains highly concentrated elderberry extract, I'm talking 64x more concentrated than the fruit itself, giving your body serious support to naturally protect and defend its immune system.* This superpowered superfruit is naturally sweetened with throat soothing honey and can be enjoyed by adults and kids 4 and older, so the whole family can support their immune system!

You can purchase New Chapter's elderberry syrup on New Chapter's website, Whole Foods, CVS, Amazon and local health food stores. Thank you so much for sponsoring today's episode New Chapter.
