130: Do You Know What's in Your Skincare Products? (Plus Simple Swaps to Make) Nov 26, 2019
    Show notes

I want to start off this conversation by saying...Our bodies are made for detoxing and equipped to handle toxins, chemicals, stress and inflammation- so many of the taboo words in the health and wellness world.

The problem is not that we should avoid all these things forever and freak out if we ever use a soap that has fragrance, or buy a deodorant with aluminum or eat an inflammatory food (whatever that means...because truly everyone has a different opinion and one of my biggest complaints with the clean eating concept).

The problem is when these things because daily and consistent in our lives. Yes, our bodies are equipped, but when the load is daily- it can become too much. And conventional beauty and makeup products can be one of the biggest contributors to that daily toxic load...I mean think about it- how many times a day and how many products do you use daily on your skin and face?

Plus, there are so many factors that are outside of our control, becoming mindful about what we can be intentional about (because we all make purchases for our skincare and makeup) can be a way to support our reducing that overall toxicity load and use ingredients and products that naturally enhance and support our body's ability to function.Plus, I'm all about supporting businesses and brands I believe in. Where we put our money tells the world what matters, and this is a great way to effect the supply and demand chain.

    In this episode we discuss:

    • The 4 main ingredients to avoid in your skincare products
    • My favorite skin skincare and green beauty products
    • Tips for making the transition easy, affordable and doable
    • Avoiding greenwashing and companies taking advantage of the natural product movement
    • Intentional shopping and purchasing

    Victoria's favorite Primally Pure products:

    • Soothing serum
    • Baby oil
    • Baby balm
    • Body butter

129: How to Cook and Meal Plan with Ease with Sara Forte of Sprouted Kitchen Nov 22, 2019
    Show notes

Sara Forte is a two-time cookbook author, award-winning food blogger at Sprouted Kitchen, co-creator of the Sprouted Kitchen Cooking Club, mom of two, and equal opportunity salad and brownie enthusiast living in Southern California. Sara's food blog, Sprouted Kitchen, launched over a decade ago and has been an adventure Sara pursued with her wildly talented husband, Hugh, who is responsible for all of their food photography.

Sara has worked at a grocery store, two farms, and has spent the last decade creating recipes for her blog, two cookbooks, and her weekly meal planning program, Sprouted Kitchen Cooking Club. Her intention is to make healthy-ish food that fits into that fits into the everyday life of families. She doesn't subscribe to particular diets, or label foods as "good" or "bad." Her food philosophy is to try to eat mostly vegetables and listen to your body outside of that.

Sara is authentically interested in the entire concept of wellness, including mental health, relationships, mindfulness, movement and eating well. To Sara, caring for ourselves and others with nourishing foods is a big piece of that "wellness" puzzle. She cooks for pleasure, to slow her mind down, and to foster relationships by gathering those she loves around the table.

Knowing how food connects us, Sara and Hugh recently founded Sprouted Kitchen Cooking Club - a weekly meal planning subscription, that helps home cooks get dinner on the table by organizing their time at the market and in the kitchen, and offering recipes to prepare a handful of healthy-ish meals during the week.

    In this episode we discussed:

    • Sara's journey with starting her blog, Sprouted Kitchen, and how that led to two cookbooks and a meal planning service, the Sprouted Kitchen Cooking Club
    • Why Sara cooks and how it connects her to herself, her food, her relationships and so much more
    • Easy ideas for how to get started in the kitchen
    • How to cook and meal plan with ease using Sprouted Kitchen Cooking Club
    • Sara's inspiration to start her weekly meal planning service to empowers members to put tasty, real food in their bodies and on the tables
    • What wellness means to Sara
    • Getting started with feeding children and ways to sneak vegetables in their diet

This episode is brought to you by New Chapter. As a women's health dietitian and educator, I have been on the search for my official recommendation for a prenatal vitamin for quite some time, and I am thrilled to say I finally found the one, and actually a prenatal AND postnatal vitamin- that checks all my boxes.

What's so cool about New Chapter's Perfect Prenatal Vitamin is that it is fermented for better absorption with beneficial probiotics and whole foods, which also makes it easy to digest and gentle on the stomach- which if you've ever taken a prenatal vitamin you know that's not always the case. Plus their new improved formula contains ginger to help combat morning sickness. It contains all the key nutrients your body needs for a growing baby, including methylfolate- which is the active form of folate I personally always recommend to my clients when they are looking for a prenatal*.

And they also have a Perfect Postnatal Vitamin, which is what I am personally taking now. Its formulated specifically for new moms and our needs, to help us replenish nutrient stores from having a baby meaning its going to contain key nutrients like iodine, vitamin D, fermented iron as well as fermented B vitamins to support energy needs. What I think is so helpful is that it also contains herbs and plants that have been used traditionally for lactation like oats, kelp, chamomile and turmeric*.

As with all New Chapter supplements and products, these prenatal and postnatal vitamins are nonGMO certified, made with organic whole foods and herbs and responsibly sourced. I mean I could it get any better, I don't think so!

You can purchase New Chapter prenatal and postnatal vitamins on New Chapter's website, Whole Foods, CVS, Amazon and local health food stores. Thank you so much for sponsoring today's episode New Chapter!

121: How to Make Peace with Weight Gain Oct 25, 2019
    Show notes

The longer I do this work, the more I realize how much the fear of weight gain is one of the absolute, biggest predictors of why we fear intuitive eating.

And I get it- I really do. I learned about intuitive eating way before I actually began my permission stage, meaning I rejected the belief that I needed to diet and gave myself unconditional permission to eat all foods, and truly listen to my body. If you are trying to start this journey, there are a few factors that you are going to need to work through first, or else you will always get stuck.

With clients, we focus on mindset, values, working through barriers, facing fears...including the fear of weight gain...first before we start detailing through the intuitive eating principles. This allows for better SUCCESS because you've made peace and worked on what's holding you back from, first and foremost.

So this brings me to today's conversation because its one of the biggest aspects that holds us back from intuitive eating...fear of weight gain.

If you would have told me ten years ago that I would weigh what I do today and not only accept and tolerate it but NOT CARE and be happier, healthier and loving my life, myself and my body...I would have laughed at you. I had a core belief that being smaller was better and that weight gain would derail everything in my life.

Are you ready to learn more? Today's podcast episodes shares:

    • Why we are having this conversation about weight gain
    • Weight gain as a possibility in your intuitive eating journey
    • Set point theory and how to discover your personal set point range
    • How to make peace with weight gain through:
      • Education as a tool for peace
      • Letting go of desire to lose weight
