    Show notes

With our special guests, Shannon Muir and Gregory Tyler, we continue our discussion about all of the 26 episodes that made up Voltron: The Third Dimension. We also talk about the full line of Trendmasters toys that supported the show in the retail outlets, and we finish by giving credit to all the talented people that worked on Voltron: The Third Dimension and paved the way for CGI animation in the late 90's.

We want to thank Shannon Muir and Gregory Tyler for this comprehensive and detailed look at Voltron: The Third Dimension. Their insight into the story, background, characters, and mythology of Voltron really made this a unique look at Voltron: The Third Dimension that has never been heard before.

You can reach Shannon Muir through her website at http://www.shannonmuir.com

Gregory Tyler is on Facebook, where he's always willing to have a conversation about Voltron toys, mythos, characters, episodes or anything Sci-Fi as well.

    As always, Thanks for Listening!

    Show notes

Voltron: The Third Dimension was the first 3D animated show fully produced in the US. On this first part of 2 podcast episodes, Marc brings special guests Shannon Muir and Gregory Tyler together to discuss the show in detail. From Behind-the-scenes techniques to episode reviews, we cover this Emmy-winning show completely.

Gregory Tyler was co-host with Marc on episodes 26 and 27 of Let's Voltron, when we discussed Vehicle Team Voltron in great detail. Now, we catch up on his 3D-printed Panosh Place style Vehicle Voltron project and learn some behind the scenes motion capture techniques that made the character movements so real. Thanks for joining us on the podcast again, Greg!

Shannon Muir has been a Voltron Fan since Day 1 and credits Voltron for inspiring her career in writing and animation production, and she was the creator of the Denubian Star Map, that was actually used by WEP for helping make sense of the Voltron Universe.

For those of you who have listened to the previous Let's Voltron episodes Dan Jolley has been a part of, you'll know Dan was a principal writer for the video game, Dying Light. Dying Light is an action survival game presented in first-person perspective. The game is set in a vast and dangerous open world. During the day, you roam an urban environment devastated by a mysterious epidemic, scavenging for supplies and crafting weapons to help you defeat the hordes of mindless, flesh-hungry enemies the plague has created. At night, the hunter becomes the prey as the infected grow in strength and aggression - but even more lethal are the nocturnal, inhuman predators that leave their nests to feed. You will need to make use of all your skills and any available means to survive till dawn.

Dying Light can be purchased on 3 different video game platforms:

    1. PC

    2. XBOX One

    3. PlayStation 4

If you do buy it and enjoy the game, please let Dan know. He would love to hear your feedback. You can find Dan Jolley on Twitter @_DanJolley

    [035] The Best of Let's Voltron! Dec 18, 2014
    Show notes

Happy 1st Anniversary to Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast!

I am proud to share this review of everything that happened on the Let's Voltron Podcast from this past year, as well as some anniversary greetings that Voltron Fans left us on voicemail. As I went through recording this 35th podcast episode, it became very clear that I have a lot of people to thank for making this past year so special for all the Voltron Fans.

So, I have to start by thanking the wonderful people at World Events Productions for carrying the Voltron torch these past 30 years, and for coming on the podcast to share the information that can only come from the home office in St. Louis. So, a very special thank you to Ted Koplar, Bob Koplar and Tiffany Ilardi. Extra thanks to Bob Koplar for helping me walk through all these podcast episodes.

    Marc and Bob

I really want to thank Jeremy Corray for helping get this podcast started in December 2013, and for his continued support as a resource and occasional co-host. I want to thank Michael French for making many episodes special with his expert commentary and for carrying the Blazing Sword as a great co-host. I have to thank Dan Jolley for being a great fan-favorite guest and a super co-host when we review the original Voltron episodes. Big thank you to Gregory Tyler for being a great Voltron Fan and for bringing a comprehensive look at Vehicle Team Voltron to the listeners of the podcast.

The rest of the people on this list have all been terrific contributors to the podcast and were all important to the success of the 1st year of Let's Voltron. Here they are, in no particular order:

Mark Oliver, Tommy Yune, George Sohn, Seth Green, Clare Grant, Brian “Smitty” Smith, Lucas Morrell, Marc Handler, Franklin Cofod, John Teichmann, Casey Snider, Chee-toy, Talley LaFlamme, Moira, Brandon Thomas, Cubbieberry, Rileah Vanderbilt, Chris Wofford, Neil Ross, Josh McKillips, N. Steven Harris, Jacob Chabot, Linda Endinger, Todd Matthy, Tara Scully, Traci Todd, Josh Bernard, Aaron Goins, Jon Eckert, Tony and Rose Tuski, Kim Morrell, and Master Harry Pfister (a true inspiration).

Thank you so much to all the fans that submitted great questions for many of the guests in all of the episodes, and for sharing your thoughts, comments, memories, and super Voltron fandom.

Thank you all for making 2014 the best year ever for me and here's hoping that 2015 has the ability to top it!

Thanks for listening! See you all in 2015!

[034] Voltron: From Days of Long Ago Dec 12, 2014
    Show notes

Our second to last episode of 2014 brings you the whole team that formed like Voltron to bring the fans Perfect Square's “Voltron: From Days of Long Ago, A Thirtieth Anniversary Celebration”, the coffee table style compendium book that covers everything Voltron from 1984-2014.

Marc talked with Traci Todd, Sr Editor at Viz Media, and Josh Bernard from Collection DX. And, from a pre-recorded Book Signing and Presentation at Barnes & Noble Tribeca in New York City, Marc was also on stage with Brian Smith and Jacob Chabot. So, all 5 Lions are represented here on Let's Voltron!

Traci Todd was Black Lion, who formed a great book out of all the submissions of the writers and artists that contributed.

Brian Smith was Red Lion, the right arm that detailed the fictional side of the Voltron Universe, in all of the series that were shown on TV.

Marc Morrell was Green Lion, who told the story of how Voltron was developed as a children's cartoon TV series in America in 1984, and the chronology of everything Voltron over the last 30 years.

Josh Bernard was Blue Lion, who told the story of the Voltron Toys and Collectibles that have been created in Voltron's image over the 30-year span.

Jacob Chabot was Yellow Lion, who created the artwork for the Comic Book Epilogue at the end of the book, which shows the storyline that would have been Season 2 of Voltron Force.

Sam Elzway (Designer) could have been our Sven, as his designs made the book look great, from the cover to every page in between. Although he was not on the podcast with us, his contributions will never go unnoticed.

This episode gets into the background of how the project came together, and how these 5 Voltron Fans came together to provide the rest of the Voltron Fans with the largest Voltron compendium ever made.

If you are one of the few who still have not picked up a copy of the book, or you want to buy the book as a Christmas Gift for a lucky Voltron fan, you can get the book at the Voltron Store, Amazon, or Barnes & Noble.

Our next episode of Let's Voltron will be the 1-year Anniversary of Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast. We will breakdown all the episodes from the first year of the podcast, giving you our “Best of Let's Voltron”.

    Thank you for listening!

[033] Seth Green and Clare Grant Dec 05, 2014
    Show notes

Episode Advisory: For parents of younger children who listen to Let's Voltron, we must give fair warning that there are a few words spoken in this episode that are considered strong language.

Seth Green and Clare Grant are our special guests on Let's Voltron for this 33rd episode. Marc has a unique extended conversation with Seth and Clare about their careers, their Voltron fandom and memories, and what would need to happen to make that Voltron Live-Action Feature Film that everyone so desperately craves.

We also talk about Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Robot Chicken, Titan Maximum, Team Unicorn, Hunger Games, and a hundred more pop culture current and past events.

So, for those of you who may not follow Seth and Clare's fantastic careers (you will after listening to this podcast), here's an introduction to our celebrity guests:

    Seth Green

Seth Green is the ultimate multitasker simultaneously working on multiple film and TV projects as an actor and as a creator/executive producer/writer. His Emmy® Award for Outstanding Short-Format Animated Program, multiple Annie Awards (including one for Seth for directing) and multiple Emmy® nominations as Outstanding Voice-Over Performer, attest to the fact that he successfully manages to do everything well and give the illusion that it's effortless. That's a little tougher to do now that he's on five television shows at once. If you do the math, that doesn't leave much time for sleep or anything else. Seth recently joined the cast of Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as Leonardo. The show began its third season last month. He also has several series in development.

In films, Green starred in the 2013 Lionsgate feature Sexy Evil Genius, with Katee Sackhoff, Michelle Trachtenberg and Harold Perrineau. He also narrated the filmmakers' documentary, Jujitsuing Reality, about Scott Lew, who wrote the film while fighting ALS. The doc was short-listed as a nominee for an Academy Award. Green starred as Lou Taylor Pucci's autistic boss in The Story of Luke, which won numerous film festival awards. He also starred with Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd and Joey Pantoliano in The Identical. Green has the starring role in the upcoming animated film, Yellowbird, with Dakota Fanning.

Green stars in Robot Chicken, the Emmy® Award-winning, stop-motion animated series on Adult Swim. Green and Stoopid Monkey producing partner Matthew Senreich created Robot Chicken and Green serves as exec producer, primary voice talent, writer and sometimes director of the pop culture parody show, which debuted in February 2005 and earns great reviews while garnering the highest ratings of any original program on the network. Last season, Green also starred the 20th/Fox live action comedy series Dads, a show that extended his relationship with Family Guy boss Seth MacFarlane, where Green has voiced naive son Chris Griffin since the inception of the popular animated comedy series. Green also voices A-Bomb on Disney XD's Marvel's Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

Robot Chicken just wrapped season 7, which began with the sequel to the Robot Chicken DC Comics Special, both specials were directed by Green. The show's DVDs are often the top-selling TV shows upon their release. In 2012, they teamed with Buddy Systems to unveil their new animation studio, Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. Green is also the investor/spokesperson for Shodogg, a proprietary video delivery platform. In his free time, he and his wife are active fans of space travel and the science and technology behind it.

    Clare Grant

Clare Grant is a Memphis-born actress who grew up very active in the local theater and film scene. Upon graduation from the University of Memphis with a degree in Theater Performance, she modeled overseas before devoting herself to her first passion: acting. After quickly booking a small but pivotal role in the Academy Award-winning film, Walk the Line, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting full time.

While in Memphis, Clare met local director, Craig Brewer, who cast her as the lead in several independent films before casting her in his studio film, Black Snake Moan, and later as the lead in his MTV series, $5 Cover. Finding luck in LA, Clare immediately booked a leading role on the Emmy-winning Showtime series, Masters of Horror, followed by film and television leads and guest-starring roles in such television series as CSI: Miami, Robot Chicken, Warren the Ape, MAD, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Graves and others.

As a producer, Clare created and starred in the short film, Saber, which won two LucasFilm Fan Film Awards for Audience Choice and for Best Action. Saber II has received over 2 million hits in the past month. With her creative partners, Team Unicorn, she continues to create and produce geek-centric viral sensations including the award-winning G33K & G4M3R Girls, A Very Zombie Holiday and superHarmony. Now Clare also has a Team Unicorn pilot at Adult Swim.

Let's Voltron Podcast is proud to present this intimate interview with Seth Green and Clare Grant, who are truly Voltron superfans, like many of the listeners to the podcast.

    Thank you for listening!
