Voltron Force Supervising Director Steven E Gordon Mar 17, 2016
    Show notes

Your hosts, Marc Morrell and Greg Tyler, welcome special guest Steven E Gordon (Supervising Director for Voltron Force), where we learn some things about what could have happened in Season 2 of Voltron Force. Our hosts also talk about the upcoming WonderCon panel for Voltron: Legendary Defender, and talk about the showrunners.

Steven E Gordon, probably known best for his work on X-Men: Evolution, has a 30-year career of storyboards, character design and Directing to his credit. We talked to Steven about how he started with Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings in high school, with some detailed rotoscoping. His career took him to Disney, Filmation, Warner Bros, DreamWorks, and he is currently working on SpongeBob 3 for Paramount Animation.

Of course, you all want to hear what he has to say about working on Voltron Force, and you'll hear plenty. Fans who submitted questions will get their answers as well. Steven knows more about what might have happened, had there been a second season of Voltron Force, than we have ever heard before. Thank you, Steven, for this wonderful look at the making of Voltron Force!

As you may know, WonderCon in Los Angeles, CA is hosting a panel to introduce the world to Voltron: Legendary Defender. Here is a description of the panel, followed by a picture of the showrunners, Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos:

TRENDMASTERS Prototype Expert Jonathan Shykofsky Feb 19, 2016
    Show notes

Greg Tyler officially becomes the new co-host with Marc Morrell, as they welcome Jonathan Shykofsky to the podcast to talk about TRENDMASTERS Prototype Toys, especially the ones from Voltron: The Third Dimension.

Before Marc and Greg interview Jonathan Shykofsky, they talk about a few current events happening with Voltron.

    1 - Deadpool is a Voltron Fan!

2 - Voltron: Legendary Defender is the name of the Voltron series on Netflix, coming later this year. Nerdist broke with an exclusive story, including a poster that includes a logo for the show, and a silhouette of Voltron in the background.

3 - It was announced at New York Toy Fair 2016 that Playmates Toys would launch the toy line for Voltron: Legendary Defender in Spring 2017.

Jonathan Shykofsky tells us about his background as an animator for Arthur and Caillou, before becoming a TRENDMASTERS Prototype Toy Collector, thanks to Slimer, Godzilla, Osmosis Jones and Iron Giant. Jonathan has great stories to tell about his passion for researching, finding and acquiring the whole TRENDMASTERS line of prototypes, many that came from the original designers themselves.

The Voltron: The Third Dimension show spawned a number of prototypes that never made it into production, including Dracotron and Voltrex Cycles. We'd like to share with you a number of pictures that Jonathan has graciously allowed us to post on this page:

    Show notes

Another great season of comic book and fandom conventions is upon us, so Marc took advantage to have an interview with Voltron's Lance and Sven, Michael Bell, at RetroCon in Oaks, PA. Meanwhile, down in Atlanta, RetroBlasting presented a panel on "The History of Voltron" at DragonCon. There's plenty more Voltron in this episode, including some words from the fans.

Kicking off the episode, Marc mentions that Voltron: From the Ashes - Issue #1 - was released on September 16th. Issue #2 will be released on October 21st. There are several positive reviews of the comic book from comic book blogs like:

    Bounding Into Comics - http://boundingintocomics.com/2015/09/15/comic-book-review-voltron-from-the-ashes-1/

Marc will try to get the Alex Milne black and white variant cover at the Dynamite booth at New York Comic Con. Dynamite has also said they would have it available at Baltimore Comic Con, which is coming soon.

A new product that became available on Voltron.com is the Voltron Defender Mug by Zak. It is dishwasher and microwave safe, BPA Free, and it's only 10 bucks.

As mentioned in this podcast, Saber Rider and the Star Sherriffs has a Kickstarter campaign that ends on Oct. 5, 2015 at 6 AM ET. Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs is an all-new 2D 16-Bit style run'n'gun shoot-'em-up including giant Mecha action, based upon the original series from 1986 for Nintendo 3DS, Steam (PC, MAC, Linux), Sega Dreamcast and PC Engine. To be able to pledge an amount to get your desired reward (by Nov 2016), please go to Kickstarter at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/saberridergame/saber-rider-and-the-star-sheriffs-the-video-game to submit your pledge. Voltron: From the Ashes - Cullen Bunn and Blacky Shepherd Sep 03, 2015
    Show notes

Cullen Bunn (Writer) and Blacky Shepherd (Artist) join Marc to discuss the release of Voltron: From the Ashes, a new 6-issue comic book series from Dynamite Entertainment. The 1st Issue is being released on September 16th, and Cullen and Blacky tell us as much as they can without spoiling it for anyone.

Cullen and Blacky seem to have come from the same mold, despite growing up in different areas, which makes them perfect collaborators for this Voltron comic book series. We talk about their love of giant robots, Micronauts, the horror genre, and classic japanese anime, as well as the influences that have brought them to where they are today.

Obviously, you are going to get to hear more than you've ever heard before about Voltron: From the Ashes, without getting spoiled or upsetting the editors at Dynamite Entertainment. Keep this in mind: this is the same classic Voltron look, but a completely fresh take on Voltron with a new team, 200 years after the original team of Lance, Keith, Allura, Pidge and Hunk.

    Cullen Bunn

Cullen Bunn is an accomplished writer for comics, short stories, and novels. Known for his work on comic books such as Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe for Marvel Comics, and The Damned and The Sixth Gun for Oni Press, his work also includes the middle reader horror series Crooked Hills and his short story work includes the anthology collection Creeping Stones & Other Stories.

In this podcast, Cullen also mentions his current Comic for Dark Horse Comics, called Harrow County, and Blood Feud, a novella from Oni Press.

In 2011 Bunn was nominated for a Ghastly Award, and won Broken Frontier's Best Writer Independent Award. In 2012 he was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award and an Eisner Award.

In comics, he started doing ‘Vampirella: Feary Tales’ pencils for Dynamite Comics, and is now working on Voltron: From the Ashes. This talented artist isn't stopping there. You'll be seeing more work from him in the future.

    Blacky's personal website is: http://www.cqshep.com

    On Twitter: @cqshep

Marc brings together three Voltron collectors, who all prefer to keep their Voltron collections rather than sell any of them. Joining Marc to talk about Voltron collecting are Mark Oliver, Greg Tyler, and Doug Snyder.

Marc starts by talking about Voltron items found at the Toynami booth at San Diego Comic-Con, as well as a new prototype maquette statue of Voltron found at the Sideshow Collectibles booth.

The rest of the podcast is all about collecting Voltron. Questions like: What are the favorite parts of your collection? What Voltron items would you like to see made that has never been made before? What is the future of collecting? … and more.
