Neil Kaplan (Emperor Zarkon) Interview Jul 11, 2016
    Show notes

Neil Kaplan joins Marc and Greg to talk about playing Emperor Zarkon on Voltron Legendary Defender, as well as his entire voice acting career, and his appreciation for all Voltron fans.

Neil Kaplan is a man of many talents, and has a voice acting resume that includes many credits in movies, animation, video games, promos, narration, and commercial work. He has played Optimus Prime in Transformers: Robots in Disguise, Diabolico in Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue, Hawkmon in Digimon, and Tychus Findlay on StarCraft 2. Of course, we all love his Emperor Zarkon from the first season of Voltron Legendary Defender and we can't wait to see more Zarkon in (hopefully) more seasons to come on Netflix. After you hear our podcast, you'll want him to come back for more, and you may get the chance when we review The Black Paladin (Episode 11) from Voltron Legendary Defender.

Neil wants to share his contact information on both Facebook and Twitter, so you can continue to chat with him about anything Voltron.

    Neil's Facebook page is:

    https://www.facebook.com/Neil-Kaplan-Voice-Actor-92511143541/

On Twitter, Neil is @NeKap, which is found here:

We also want you to know that Marc will be going to San Diego ComicCon again this year to get some more interviews, see some great panels, and check out all the new Voltron stuff being offered on the Exhibit Hall Floor.

The DreamWorks Voltron Legendary Defender Panel with Lauren Montgomery, Joaqim Dos Santos and Tim Hedrick will take place at 3 PM on Thursday, July 20th, in Room 7 AB. They dive deep into the epic first season of the critically acclaimed Netflix original series Voltron Legendary Defender. They'll come ready to answer all your burning questions with an extended fan Q&A and even offer a sneak peek of what's next for the Paladins of Voltron. All panel attendees will receive an exclusive limited-edition Voltron lithograph.

Also, we talked about the sneak peek we saw of Bandai's Soul of Chogokin Voltron/GoLion Figure, and Marc will be bringing home close-up pictures of this model from SDCC to share with all the podcast listeners.

Wednesday, July 13th, you will be able to get Issue #1 of Voltron Legendary Defender, the Lion Forge Comic Book Series available at participating comic book retail shops. Don't miss the exciting first issue!

You can pre-order from Voltron.com here:

Josh Keaton (Shiro) Interview and Some Assembly Required Review Jul 01, 2016
    Show notes

Josh Keaton, the amazing voice actor who plays Shiro in Voltron Legendary Defender, joins us as a guest to talk about everything Shiro and Voltron, and he answers all your fan questions. Also, Greg and Marc review Episode 2 - Some Assembly Required.

Josh Keaton has had a terrific career as a voice actor, and has even been able to work with some of his heroes in the business that he grew up idolizing. In this podcast, we talk to Josh about the process it took for him to become Shiro, and how he continues to use real life to inspire him to be the Space Dad that everyone has come to call him on social media. If you were one of the fans that asked Josh a question on Facebook or Twitter, be sure to listen carefully, because Josh probably answered your question.

Also in this podcast, Marc points out that Voltron Legendary Defender #1 by Lion Forge Comics is coming out on Wednesday, July 13th. CraveOnline.Com has an exclusive story, which includes some preview pages from that first issue of the series written by Tim Hedrick and Mitch Iverson.

We also want to let people know that Voltron.com is having a contest to win a trip to Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The details are on Voltron.com and you can enter each day until August 31st.

And last but certainly not least, Greg and Marc review the entire 2nd Episode of Voltron Legendary Defender, Some Assembly Required.

Lauren, Joaquim, and The Rise of Voltron Jun 06, 2016
    Show notes

We can't emphasize this enough – please be warned in this podcast, we will be reviewing the entire plot of “The Rise of Voltron”. You WILL want to hear our interview with Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos, but PLEASE STOP listening when we start talking about “The Rise of Voltron” that makes up the first 3 episodes of Voltron Legendary Defender, if you don't want to be spoiled.

AFTER you have seen Voltron Legendary Defender on June 10th, at least the first 3 episodes, come back to this podcast and relive "The Rise of Voltron” with us!

We think you will really enjoy hearing from Lauren and Joaquim, talking about the show they've been working on for the last 2 years. There's a lot of exclusive insight, that you won't be able to get anywhere else. We want to thank Lauren, Joaquim, DreamWorks, Netflix, and everyone who helped us set up the interview!

We don't talk about it in the podcast, but there were two other things that happened after we had recorded this podcast. First, the was a Voltron Art Show on June 4th at the Hero Complex Gallery in downtown Los Angeles. Over 40 different artists contributed to this event. Joaquim, Lauren, Josh Keaton (Shiro), Kimberly Brooks (Allura) and Neil Kaplan (Zarkon) dropped by for the opening night.

You can go here (http://hcgart.com/collections/voltron) to order your own pieces of Voltron art, or if you are in the L.A. Area, you can still see the exhibition before it closes on June 19th.

Second, we heard that Sideshow Collectibles is putting the Voltron Maquette on Pre-Order on Thursday, June 9th, the day before Voltron Legendary Defender comes out on Netflix. However, this Voltron is unlike any Voltron you've seen before – at is is the design Will Harbottle and the team at Sideshow envisioned as the Voltron they would want to see in a live-action movie. It's price has still not been published anywhere, and we expect we will all know when it goes on pre-order at http://www.sideshowtoy.com/whats-new/voltron-maquette/ on June 9th.

Go here to see the Voltron Maquette trailer, which shows Voltron in all his glory: http://www.sideshowtoy.com/whats-new/voltron-maquette/

For those of you who wanted to know about the global availability of Voltron Legendary Defender on Netflix, this is the availability news we are getting from the Media site on Netflix.com:

The series will be available to Netflix members in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the Nordics, Benelux, France and DACH beginning June 10.

Excluding Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Japan, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Middle East and Russia.

For those of you who live in an area that doesn't have Voltron on Netflix, please make sure you direct your inquiries to the Netflix division that handles your regional area. The more people that cry out for truly global distribution of Voltron, the faster you can get the Defender you love. Just like we are being respectful to all fans by warning them of spoilers about the show in this podcast, please remember that several regions of the world are not able to see this yet when you communicate on social media. Thank you!

    And thank you for listening!

This set has the 10,000 supporters needed to reach the review phase of the LEGO Ideas site. The next review period is in September, and we are anxiously waiting to hear if this Voltron set will get approved to be manufactured as a set by LEGO.

As we learned, the first 3 episodes of the series are themed as an hour-long movie, called “The Rise of Voltron.” Here is a link to the trailer they are talking about:

In addition to answering fan questions about the new show, Bob talks about some other current events occurring with Voltron. First off, there's a new 5-issue comic book mini-series coming out in July from Lion Forge Comics, entitled Voltron: Legendary Defender, which is a story supplement to the DreamWorks Animation show, and it's written by Story Editor Tim Hedrick and episode writer Mitch Iverson.

    Voltron @ WonderCon: Part 2 - The Panel Apr 11, 2016
    Show notes

Marc and Greg welcome special guests Dani DeWald and Shannon Muir to the podcast to give their first-hand review of the Voltron: Legendary Defender Panel at WonderCon. With the excitement of the crowd and all of the panelists, DreamWorks Animation provided Voltron fans with an outstanding first look at Voltron: Legendary Defender at WonderCon.

Dani DeWald and Shannon Muir were both panel attendees for an hour-long debut of the brand new DreamWorks Animation series coming to Netflix on June 10th, Voltron: Legendary Defender. Dani sat right next to Marc and his wife in the front row and recorded the whole panel on her camera, and then her phone. She has shared this video on YouTube, and has now provided captions for the words spoken by the panelists, which were sometimes hard to hear. You can see the video Dani uploaded to YouTube here:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5K5AwkwfBw

Shannon Muir was also at the panel with her husband and just missed connecting with Marc before the panel. You might be able to find Shannon in this crowd shot we took before the panel to show you how packed the room was with Voltron fans.

Shannon was a guest on the podcast for our 2-Part look at Voltron: The Third Dimension. She provides some insight into people that have a direct connection with this show at DreamWorks Animation, and the crew that had previously worked on The Legend of Korra. Shannon also wrote a Tumblr page article with her full review, which is now supplemented by her insight provided here on the podcast. You can check out her Tumblr article here:

    http://www.animatedinsights.com/

Of course, you really want to see the cast and crew that we went to see at the Voltron: Legendary Defender panel at WonderCon, don't you? Well, here they are from left to right: Bex Taylor-Klaus (Pidge), Tim Hedrick (Story Editor), Kimberly Brooks (Allura), Jeremy Shada (Lance), Josh Keaton (Shiro), Jessica Chobot (Moderator), Neil Kaplan (Zarkon), Rhys Darby (Coran), Tyler Labine (Hunk), Joaquim Dos Santos (Exec. Prod), Lauren Montgomery (Co-Exec Prod)

And here are a few pics from the panel, taken from the front row:

After the panel, Dani was able to get her picture taken with Original Series Director, Franklin Cofod, who sat right behind Marc during the panel.

Let's not forget, there is a prize winner in this podcast. One lucky listener, who sent in a question for Marc to ask the panelists during the interviews, is winning a signed lithograph from the panel. We won't spoil it for you here. You have to listen to find out!

    Voltron @ WonderCon: Part 1 - The Interviews Apr 04, 2016
    Show notes

Marc takes Let's Voltron "on the road" to the worldwide debut of the Voltron: Legendary Defender cast and crew at WonderCon, with exclusive interviews. You get to listen to Greg's reactions to hearing these interviews for the very first time.

Let's Voltron Host, Marc Morrell, took a trip to Los Angeles, California with his wife, Kim (official photographer/videographer), to capture the DreamWorks Animation panel and interviews for Voltron: Legendary Defender. In Part 1 of 2, you will hear Marc recall the experience of WonderCon, and the exuberance of Voltron fans that attended the panel that introduced the world to the cast and crew of Voltron: Legendary Defender, due to come out with an initial block of 13 episodes on June 10th on Netflix. For co-host, Greg Tyler, who is hearing all these interviews for the first time, this podcast gives his genuine reactions to what the cast and crew had to say at WonderCon, after the panel that just exploded like Voltron slicing through robeasts with Blazing Sword.

While Marc was at WonderCon, he got to meet face-to-face for the first time with previous podcast guests, Blacky Shepherd and Steven E. Gordon. These Voltron meetups are one of the favorite things for Marc to do as a host of the podcast. You can privately contact either of these great artists through Facebook or Twitter to commision them for a personal Voltron artwork of your choosing.

Marc also visited the Sideshow Collectibles booth, where a finished Prototype of the Voltron Maquette was on display, in all of it's colorful glory. The price and date of sale are all "To Be Decided" (TBD), but here are the pictures we promised in close up detail.

In the podcast, Greg mentions the Mighty Fine T-shirts that Marc picked up for him at the We Love Fine booth. These were WonderCon exclusives for the new Voltron show, and you can now get them yourself (for $25 each) at these links:

    http://www.welovefine.com/voltron-space-attack-11257.html

    http://www.welovefine.com/colored-chestplate-11258.html

The Voltron cast was announced at WonderCon, and we talk to all of them, except Neil Kaplan, Steven Yeun, and Cree Summer, during this podcast:

    • Josh Keaton (Hal Jordan in "Green Lantern: The Animated Series") as Shiro
    • Jeremy Shada (Finn the Human in "Adventure Time") as Lance
    • Tyler Labine ("Tucker and Dale vs. Evil") as Hunk
    • Bex Taylor-Klaus ("The Last Witch Hunter") as Pidge
    • Steven Yeun (Glenn in "The Walking Dead") as Keith
    • Kimberly Brooks (Ashley Williams in "Mass Effect") as Princess Allura
    • Rhys Darby ("Flight of the Conchords") as Coran
    • Neil Kaplan ("Transformers: Robots in Disguise") as Zarkon

    • Joaqim Dos Santos ("The Legend of Korra") - Executive Producer
    • Lauren Montgomery ("The Legend of Korra") - Co-Executive Producer
    • Tim Hedrick ("The Legend of Korra") - Story Editor

In Part 2 of the podcast, coming next week, Marc and Greg bring 2 other guests who attended the panel at WonderCon onto the podcast to review everything that happened at the panel. Your guests will be Shannon Muir and Dani DeWald. Both are mentioned in Part 1 as well.

Marc announced in this podcast that we will be revealing the winner of a Voltron: Legendary Defender lithograph, signed by the whole cast and crew of the Netflix series that were at the panel at WonderCon. From all of people who submitted questions to our email that were asked to the talent and showrunners of Voltron: Legendary Defender, we will pick one winner at random. That winner will be announced in our Parts 2 podcast next week. Here is a picture of that lithograph:

Sorry that this podcast was so long, but we have a wonderful panel to talk about and guests to review it with us, coming next week on Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast.
