[030] Prince Lotor crushes on Princess Allura Oct 24, 2014
    Show notes

Marc Morrell and Dan Jolley review 4 more episodes (13-16) from Voltron: Defender of the Universe (Lion Force). Dan keeps us up to date on his career, and Marc talks about the 30th Anniversary Book and panel at New York Comic Con, as well as book signings and interviews.

If you recall, we haven't reviewed the Original Series Voltron Episodes since Podcast #22. We finished reviewing Episode 12 during that podcast. So, this podcast episode covers the following Original Series Voltron episodes (Beast King GoLion episode titles in parenthesis):

#13 – The Witch Gets a Facelift (Introducing Beautiful Honerva)

#14 – Yurak Gets His Pink Slip (The Crown Prince of Hell)

#15 – Give Me Your Princess (Overcome the Phantom of Shirogane)

#16 – Bridge Over the River Chozzerai (The Legendary Bridge of Love)

Listen as Marc brings back Dan Jolley, our special guest from Podcast #7, to discuss the differences between the Voltron and GoLion versions of these 4 episodes. This story arc sees the exit of Commander Yurak and the entrance of Prince Lotor, who takes over as the Commander in Chief of the Drule Forces on Planet Doom. Lotor also has a strong infatuation with Princess Allura that is a continuous theme throughout the rest of the series.

    30th Anniversary Book

Marc also talks about the 30th Anniversary Book, which is being released to stores everywhere on Tuesday, October 28. If you haven't pre-ordered it, you can pick up a copy on Tuesday, wherever books are sold. Online, you can also purchase the Kindle, e-book, Nook, and other digital versions of the book through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Google Play, and other retail sites.

    Thanks for listening!

    Show notes

Happy 30th Anniversary Voltron! On the Official 30th Anniversary of the date Voltron: Defender of the Universe debuted on Television (Sept 10, 1984), Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast host Marc Morrell interviews Tiffany Ilardi, the Managing Director at World Events Productions, owner of the Voltron brand.

Marc and Tiffany talk about the many plans that can be mentioned for the kickoff of Voltron's 30th year. Tiffany talks about some of the products that will be available for sale at a special 30th Anniversary section of the online store.

Tiffany tells us about some of the licensees she's worked with over the years, some of the strangest products, and some that have captured the hearts of the fans.

As the fans ask Tiffany questions, we hear what a typical day might be like for Tiffany at the WEP offices in St. Louis, Missouri. She answers questions related to her role on Voltron: The Third Dimension and Voltron Force, and gives us an idea about the relationship DreamWorks has with World Events Productions.

At the end of the podcast, Tiffany announced the name of our “Show Us Your Voltron” contest winner.

[027] Vehicle Team Voltron with Gregory Tyler (Part 2) Sep 05, 2014
    Show notes

Marc and his special guest, Greg Tyler, finish their discussion on Vehicle Team Voltron, where they spend the biggest part of the episode talking about the Vehicle Voltron toys and merchandise that were released in the 80's, from companies like Matchbox, LJN Toys, Panosh Place, HG Toys, Warren, and Toynami.

Greg also lets us into some of his own personal projects related to Voltron. Greg has been documenting his progress on Facebook for the 3D-printed Panosh-style Vehicle Voltron, similar in scale to the original Panosh Place Lion Voltron.

Check out the Gallery and Description of this awesome fan project.

Greg's other project involved re-making the Voltron opener for both Voltrons, so it could be used interchangeably for any of the episodes of either Lion Force Voltron or Vehicle Team Voltron. Watch the YouTube video for that opener.

We hope you enjoyed our 2-part special Vehicle Team Voltron podcast episodes. We'd like to hear your feedback on this special look at Vehicle Team Voltron. Please leave comments below or send us an email at letsvoltronpodcast@gmail.com. You can also leave us suggestions for subjects that you would like us to cover related to Voltron in upcoming podcast episodes.

Speaking of upcoming episodes, our next podcast episode will be the Official 30th Anniversary Podcast episode that will be released on the morning of September 10th, Voltron's 30th Birthday! This episode will have a special interview with World Events Productions Managing Director, Tiffany Ilardi. We'll also have a rundown of 30th Anniversary goodies that Voltron Fans can look forward to, as well as a special announcement by Chris Wofford from Acidfree Gallery – the winner of our “Show Us Your Voltron” contest. You still have time to enter! We are extending the time you can send us a picture in your best Voltron gear to Monday, September 8. Send your pics to letsvoltronpodcast@gmail.com or post them on Twitter to @LetsVoltron.

Once again, thanks for listening! We'll see you on Voltron's Birthday!

[026] Vehicle Team Voltron with Gregory Tyler (Part 1) Aug 29, 2014
    Show notes

In the first of two podcast episodes covering Vehicle Team Voltron, Marc welcomes special guest Gregory Tyler (Dudley Drule Right on Voltron.com Forums), who is a fan of everything Voltron, but has a special love for Panosh Place Voltron Toys and is working on creating his own 3D-printed Panosh Place Style Vehicle Voltron.

Marc and Greg cover mostly history, comparisons, and story-related aspects of Vehicle Team Voltron in this episode. The second episode, which will be released next week, will cover a little more story-related questions, but will really dive deep into the tie-in merchandise that was associated with the Vehicle Voltron show, and we'll talk about Greg's own fan projects.

At the top of the episode, Marc mentions some other coverage of Vehicle Volton that came before this podcast. Obviously, we don't want to suggest that there hasn't been a lot more written about or videos that talk about Vehicle Voltron, but these are what we consider to be 3 of the top ones that cover “the other Voltron”.

The first is a video that was produced by WEP several years ago, and it is narrated by former WEP Creative Director, Jeremy Corray. It is entitled Lion Voltron VS. Vehicle Voltron: The Fans Sound Off!

The second is a site that was created by a fan named Purrsia, called VoltronCentral.net and it contains information, character bios, episode descriptions, links, videos, pictures and a whole lot more. It breaks everything down by Dairugger and Vehicle Team Voltron in their own respective categories. It is a really good resource for those looking for answers to your Vehicle Voltron questions.

The third is the 2-Part Video Retrospective on Vehicle Voltron done recently by RetroBlasting. This comprehensive look at the Vehicle Voltron show and the merchandise that came with it really covers a lot of ground, supported by fantastic visuals. Watch them here:

Part 1 of RetroBlasting's Vehicle Voltron Retrospective

Part 2 of RetroBlasting's Vehicle Voltron Retrospective

Instead of these 2 Vehicle team Voltron podcast episodes re-hashing these other stories, we would like to think that this discussion between Marc and Greg complements them in a respectful way, while diving deep into the substance of the show, its history, and the merchandise and fandom that surround it.

Marc also made 2 Big Announcements during this podcast. The first is a worldwide gathering of Voltron fans online on September 10. This “Voltron 30th Anniversary Marathon” in the form of a Google Hangout on Air will be hosted by Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast, and it will start at 2 PM ET and run a full 8 hours, until 10 PM ET. You need to have a Google Account to participate. Fans can chat with each other while they watch a programmed YouTube playlist that will include Voltron episodes from every series, as well as special interviews, celebrity reels, robot chicken sketches, old commercials, and fan films. You won't want to miss this chance to gather with Voltron Fans from all over the world, all at the same time, and watch your favorite giant robot in all his glory.

The second announcement was that Let's Voltron will release a special September 10 30th Anniversary podcast, with WEP Managing Director Tiffany Ilardi joining us as a special guest. Also, Chris Wofford from Acidfree Gallery will be announcing the winner of the “Show Us Your Voltron” picture contest. The winner will be receiving a Limited Edition METAL Voltron 30th Anniversary Print (a $200 value!).

    Thanks for listening!

[025] Original Series Voice Actor Neil Ross Aug 15, 2014
    Show notes

Neil Ross is our special guest for an extended interview that covers Neil's career, his experience working on Voltron, and some special stories that no one has ever heard before. Neil also answers the questions everyone sent in before the recording, but unfortunately, he was unable to do the entire interview in Keith's voice, as some of you would have preferred.

After the interview, we had some breaking news about the 15-foot Voltron Statue that has a temporary home at the St. Louis Science Center, until the end of September. If you happen to be in the St. Louis area in the next 6 weeks, go to the St. louis Science Center to check it out and get your picture taken with Voltron. You can send your picture to @Voltron on Twitter, and make sure you use #Voltron30 in the tweet.

    Voltron Statue

As a reminder, we also mentioned we will be accepting the “Show Us Your Voltron” photos @LetsVoltron on Twitter or by email at letsvoltronpodcast@gmail.com. Take a picture of you in your Voltron Gear, and try to impress our judge, Chris Wofford, from Acidfree Gallery, who will be giving away a METAL Limited Edition Voltron 30th Anniversary Print to the winner, which will be announced on the podcast on September 10. Entries must be submitted by September 6.

80's Tees has 4 new Voltron T-Shirts available for sale at their website, 80stees.com.

    80sTees Voltron T-Shirts

One last thing we mentioned was the WeLoveFine.com Voltron Design Contest. They completed the submission period and are now in the rating period. Make your voice heard! Go here and press the 'Rate Designs Now' button to make ratings of 1 to 5 on any of the over 80 submitted designs. Ratings will close on August 26th!
