    Hustle Sanely

If you constantly feel spread too thin, your mind is always running through what needs to get done next, and you’re running on fumes by the time you get to the people you love…you’re in the right place!

Welcome to Hustle Sanely — a podcast about slowing down, letting go of the pressure to do it all, and making more room for what matters most. We’re breaking up with hustle culture and building peacefully productive lives so we can pursue our goals without sacrificing our well-being.

I’m Jess Massey, a recovering workaholic who spent most of my 20s neglecting rest, hobbies, friendships, and other important parts of life in the name of achieving my goals. Hustle culture told me that was the way to succeed, and it eventually left me burned out with a life that looked good on paper but left me feeling unfulfilled (and rly, rly exhausted, lol).

What started as my own journey out of burnout became a calling to help women steward their time and energy well, build routines that reflect their actual priorities, and create a life that feels as good as it looks.

    Around here, we talk about:

🕊️ Peaceful productivity + intentional living: Practical tips for planning your time, honoring your capacity, creating sustainable routines, and making progress without running yourself into the ground

🧸 Mindful motherhood: Honest conversations about motherhood, family rhythms, being present, and creating a home life that reflects what matters most to you

📖 Books, life, and whatever else is on my mind: Because personal growth doesn’t have to be so serious and I always want to leave room for good conversations, curiosity, and the occasional tangent

New episodes air every other Tuesday, so grab your coffee, settle in, and let’s figure out how to build a life that supports the things we actually care about.

175: How to Uncover Your Priorities ft. Tanya Dalton Apr 25, 2023
    Show notes

Key 3 to Hustling Sanely is “define your priorities” – but the truth is, for some people, that’s easier said than done. We live in such a fast-paced world — it’s easy to get swept up in the thinking that everything is important and deserves our time and energy. So how do we hone in on what’s actually important to us?
Today, I’m chatting with Tanya Dalton – a best-selling author, motivational speaker, and nationally recognized productivity expert. She helps executives and entrepreneurs step into purposeful leadership.
We are talking about how to uncover what’s most important to you because in the chaotic rush of our days, it is easy to get caught up in the “doing” that too often, we don’t take the time to sit back, reflect, and realize, we have the power to choose what’s most important to us.
It can be tempting to feel like everything is a priority, and while things may be important, that doesn’t mean they’re a priority in this season of your life.

Tune in to this episode to hear Tanya and I chat about:
⋒ Tanya’s easy-to-follow process for uncovering your priorities
⋒ How to stay focused on your true priorities when you’re juggling a lot of high-energy roles
⋒ How to handle distractions (like other people seeking our time and attention) so that we can show up well for our priorities

When you read the title of this episode: “Why You Can’t Decide What You Want In Life” — where does your mind go? I bet most of you are thinking about your work. Real talk – that is where my mind tends to go, too!

This topic hits really close to home for me because, if you’ve been following my journey at all, you might know that I have been known to be a chronic career hopper.
And do you want to know what I learned as I hopped from thing to thing? I was never going to find fulfillment from a job alone.
Tune into this week's episode to learn the 3 things that I think hold people back from deciding what they really want in life, how to gain more clarity around what you want in life, and the action to take in order to help you get there.

171: How to Build a Business When You’re Short on Time Mar 28, 2023
    Show notes

One of my goals this year is to be more open in sharing the BTS of being an online business owner. I know a lot of you have dreams of starting your own online business and now that I have a few years under my belt, I’d love to support you in that!
When I started Hustle Sanely, I was in graduate school and working multiple jobs and it was tough to make the time to grow a business on top of that stuff. I didn’t do it in the healthiest way (which is why The 5 Keys to Hustling Sanely was born in 2021) and I would’ve loved to have some guidance in growing a new business without spending 20+ hours a week on it.
If you find yourself wondering how you can start an online business when you’re short on time, you’re gonna want to hit play on this episode because I’ve got my friend Holly on today to teach you how to do just that!
Holly helps female entrepreneurs create simple scaleable offers and systems to grow to multiple 6-figures. An industry expert and featured Thrive and Entrepreneur.com author with a 20-year business consulting background with Fortune 500 companies, Holly runs her strategic coaching business, the Crush the Rush Planner company, and hosts the top 100 Crush the Rush podcast while raising her twin daughters with her husband in Columbus, Ohio.
Tune into this episode to hear Holly and I chat about:
⋒ What it was like for Holly to start her business while working a full-time job with 18-month-old twins

⋒ Her Crush the Rush system helps people build businesses when they’re short on time (you only need 8-10 hours a week!)

⋒ 3 steps to scale back the amount of time you’re spending on your business but still move the needle on things that matter

A peacefully productive life is an inclusive approach to productivity that helps you create a lifestyle that radiates peace & purpose no matter what season you’re in. A peacefully productive life is not having to choose to pursue your dreams or taking care of your mental health. It's being clear on what your vision is for your life, knowing what your priorities are, and designing your days intentionally so that those priorities get your best time energy.
Living a peacefully productive life is about taking ownership and not letting life happen to you but creating an intentional life that supports you fully.

168: How to Do a Monthly Meeting Mar 07, 2023
    Show notes

Do you ever find yourself saying something like, “How is it already *insert new month’s name*? Last month flew by!”

🙋🏻‍♀️ Now that we all have our hands raised, let me ask you another question:

Most of the time, are you stoked about how the month went as far as where you spent your time and energy OR are you often left wondering how 30ish days managed to pass and you feel like you’re still standing in the same overwhelmed place that you were at the start of the month – having made no real progress toward your goals and honestly just feeling like managing your life feels like a full-time job that you need a vacation from?

If that last sentence hit a little too close to home, you need a Monthly Meeting!
Tune in to this podcast episode to learn how to structure your Monthly Meeting to help you not only feel excited about a new month but also set you up to make progress toward your goals while prioritizing your mental health and relationships!

    Show notes

If you struggle with attaching your worth to your work, your accomplishments, and/or your productivity…you are not alone. I ~lovingly~ refer to myself as a recovering workaholic and can trace these accomplishment-obsessed behaviors back to my childhood.
I believe that in order to heal and recover from things, we have to process them and part of that for me is chatting through shared experiences with others to help with perspective shifts and feeling like I’m not alone.
That’s exactly why I brought Katie and Alexis, the hosts of the podcast Check Your Aesthetic, on the show today!
Tune into this episode to hear Katie, Alexis, and I chat about:
⋒ Why you might be attaching your worth to your work and what that looks and feels like in your day-to-day life
⋒ How to detach your worth and identity from your work/productivity/goals

⋒ Boundaries to help with work/life harmony so work doesn’t take up all of your mental time and energy
