#60. Insight Timer p.2: Christopher Plowman, CEO Behind the App Sep 29, 2017
    Show notes

Christopher Plowman is the CEO at Insight Timer. He however, is not after any attention. He’d rather let the app speak for itself. BUT I got him talking. I wanted to know about the CEO behind the App, so I asked him a bunch of deep and meaningful questions to get to know him better – cause well, that’s what I like to do.

    > To download the App, search "Insight Timer" in your App Store <

Here I talk to Christopher about:

    • How he struggles with a daily mediation practice (and understands if you do to)
    • How he believes strongly in the conscious businesses, but how many that claim to be conscious get into a tension with commercialism
    • What Christopher has to say to those who don’t have time to meditate
    • How one of their hopes is to get 1% of the population mediating at the same time, and hit the Maharishi threshold.
    • His thoughts on the importance of mediation and education in dismantling ignorance
    • How some of his greatest growth came from his biggest business failure
    • What his hope is for Insight Timer
    • And his moving yet simple statement on how we can all contribute to a better world

#59. Insight Timer p.1: The Best Kept Meditation Secret Sep 29, 2017
    Show notes

This is a two part series. In the first part of the interview, I’m talking to the CEO of Insight Timer, Christopher Plowman, about their amazing App, what it does, what it is going to do, and what those behind Insight Timer are driven by.

If you’re not familiar with it, Insight Timer is the biggest little meditation app you’ve never heard of [as the CEO puts it himself in this interview]. More people meditate on Insight Timer than do on Headspace, but it’s all been organic, word of mouth growth. It’s that awesome product that you can’t help but share with everyone once you know about it. Hence the reason I’m talking to you about it!

Insight Timer is different in that it is a community platform. They provide the platform, and teachers upload their content. What that means is that you can find every type of mediation imaginable, and it’s all > FREE! <

But why are they, the people behind the Insight Timer platform, invested in this objective – of providing to free meditation to all – anyway? how do they intend to remain sustainable? What does growth at Insight Timer look like?

This the behind-the-scenes peek into the biggest little mediation app or as I like to say, the Behind the Scenes low-down.

If you’ve ever contemplated meditating, you should start here. If you’re a seasoned meditator, you’ll absolutely appreciate the timer and the breath of meditations you can access for free on the app. And if you’re a mediation teacher (or aspire to be one day!) this could be an amazing platform to help share you work.

#54. What is Your Why [and Why it Even Matters] Aug 25, 2017
    Show notes

This episode is inspired by Simon Sinek and his TED talk on the importance of asking WHY when you're talking about Inspiring others. I've flipped it on it's head a bit and I'm talking about the importance of asking yourself why when it comes to living an INSPIRED LIFE.

[If you enjoyed this episode, you can head here to leave a review - www.thrive.how/review]

    Specifically I'm asking:

    • What do you do?
    • How do you do it?
    • And Why do you do it?

Seemingly simple questions, but when you pull them apart a bit, not so seemingly simple to answer.

I also talk about a story that a few years back pulled hard on my heart strings and make me more focused on the big questions in life. You can read some of my take on Linds Redding's story and get links to the original blog post - A Lesson in Perspective - here: What Are You Working For

    Show notes

This is a meaningful and wise conversation that opened my eyes in more ways than one. It made me re-think some of the ways the self-help movement has marginalized those who are looking to thrive while living with a mental illness, and helped me feel more empowered around what inclusive self-development includes.

    • How simply trusting yourself to get through things (even when they're not easy) empowers you
    • How many self-help messages inadvertently marginalize those living with a mental illness
    • Aliveness and the power of feeling, rather than closing off emotions
    • How happiness isn't always a choice
    • Why feeling broken is nothing to be ashamed of
    • How you can be completely afraid and courageous at the same time
    • How your pain can shape you in a positive way
    • How self-discovery and spirituality can go hand-in-hand
