    #69. Don't Fight What Is Dec 01, 2017
    Show notes

This ep. I'm getting real with a topic that frequently comes up in my Life Coaching private sessions. This is one of the things that I've been talking about with my clients over the past few weeks, and it's more than a passing trend - it is a life lessons than can help us avoid a WHOLE bunch of suffering.

I'm also celebrating a BIG milestone and giving myself a hard time about my accent (taking the Mickey out of myself if you're a Kiwi in the know). So if you want a little lightheartedness, stay tuned to this one.

    Specifically this podcast talks to:

    • What Acceptance is
    • Why accepting what is, rather than fighting against it, eases our hurt
    • How being stuck on our expectations hurts us
    • 3 steps to help you start moving yourself towards acceptance

I mentioned three mantras in here that can be really reassuring:

    • All is in right order. This is happening for me, not to me.
    • Acceptance is my path to freedom.

    and my favorite:

    • What is truly meant for me will never miss me.

#68. Marcus Aurelius Anderson: Facing Adversity Nov 24, 2017
    Show notes

Marcus Aurelius Anderson is a Mindset Coach, Speaker & Author. His new book is called - The Gift of Adversity.

Today we're talking adversity, and how to start moving forward when you feel stuck or blindsided by life. Marcus has an incredible story about overcoming adversity, but what I really appreciate about him, is how focused he not simply telling his story, but in giving others practical ideas, thoughts and actions to help them overcome adversity in their own lives.

    Specifically we discuss:

    • What adversity is
    • The importance of deciding your attitude toward adversity before you get landed with the really hard stuff
    • The regret of wasting your potential
    • Marcus' quote - "The things that make people great don't happen by accident"
    • My initial frustration with the sentiment that we all have enough time
    • The power of identifying what you really want, and what you don't want.
    • What fulfilment means to Marcus
    • ...and SO much more!

#67. When We’re Listening to Our Authentic Self Nov 17, 2017
    Show notes

In this ep. I'm diving into the cliche self-help topic that I have an ABSOLUTE love, yet slight disdain for - Authenticity.

I love it, because I believe it is one of the essential keys to living a fulfilling, and wholly happy life. I dislike it, because I think it is thrown around and misunderstood.

Today, I'm talking deep authenticity. The stuff when we feel like we're connected and living from our own inner-wisdom. Specifically this ep covers:

    • A definition of Authenticity - have to start with what it actually IS
    • The pre-requisites to authenticity - how to start becoming more authentic
    • 5 attributes that indicate connection with your authentic self.

I mention the freebie on my website - 21 Journal Prompts for Self-Discovery. You can download that here: http://www.thrive.how/free/

#65. Why Do My Clients Come to Life Coaching? Nov 03, 2017
    Show notes

In this episode I'm pulling back the curtain and letting you know what I talk to my clients about.

I looked back at my clients over the last 12 months and tried to summarize what they came to me seeking help with. I was actually surprised to see 3 themes emerge quite rapidly.

In this episode, I'm talking through those 3 themes, or 3 driving reasons that my clients tend to reach out to me and seek Life Coaching.

My hope is that this episode will help you understand more, through example, what Life Coaching is, and how it helps people navigate their lives.

To learn more about me, you can head to my website: www.thrive.how

I also mention in passing in this episode, Elaine Aron's book - The Highly Sensitive Person (I'm one of those if you're wondering).

#63. The Power of Possible Oct 20, 2017
    Show notes

This ep, I'm diving into possibility, and how powerful a concept this can be in anyone's life. Possibility is the the thing that drives a spark within us, that ultimately leads us towards action. It is the beginning of momentum that is crucial if we are going to achieve anything, or change anything. It is the starting point.

Specifically in this episode I talk through:

    • Why believing in what is possible for yourself is SO important
    • The 3-Point chain reaction that possibility can set off within you
    • 2 meaningful ways you can help to foster a sense of possibility within yourself

The book I reference in the podcast is The Power of Habit

#62. Andrea Featherstone: Deconstructing Mindfulness Oct 13, 2017
    Show notes

Today's guest is an Unconventional Mindfulness Facilitator & former cynical pessimist. She’s the woman that was ticking all the boxes but wasn’t necessarily feeling that deep sense of lasting satisfaction that most of us crave. Perhaps the best description ever – she felt like an empty coloring book.

She’s a specialist in helping people not buy into the sometimes destructive mind-chatter that most of us experience. As she puts it, Andrea helps indecisive overachievers to get clear on their direction and sense of self by learning to tame their mind.

In today's ep. I'm getting to the nitty gritty of mindfulness with Andrea. I really was wanting to understand what it meant to her, and why I might want to practice mindfulness. Specifically, we cover the following:

    • How she defines Mindfulness
    • What the ultimate aim of mindfulness practices are
    • How by separating our sense of self from our minds, we can become more powerful, clearer and feel more alive
    • What we can do when we need a mindfulness hit
    • How meditation can complement mindfulness, but how they ultimate differ
    • How the cynical types among us can still experience mindfulness without the touchy feely edge

Andrea mentions her favorite book: Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now. We also discuss his second book, A New Earth.

#61. The Important vs. The Urgent [+ the F*ck it Bucket] Oct 06, 2017
    Show notes

Most of have a tendency to get stuck on distractions, and sometimes drama, and often the most important stuff gets pushed aside.

Today I'm talking about how to make sure the Important stuff (the things that matter most in your life) don't fall by the wayside and become dominated by the things that are nosier and demand your attention more - the Urgent things.

Because a life well-lived is one where you're focusing on, and spending your time on, the stuff that matters most.

In this ep. I talk through the Franklin-Covey Time Management Matrix. To see an image, head to my website: www.thrive.how/podcast61.

This concept is spoken about in depth in Stephen Covey's book - The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - under Habit 3: Put First Things First.

I reference a Fortune article on this topic too. That can be found here: http://fortune.com/2011/03/16/how-i-managed-my-time-the-covey-way/

I talk through how you can prioritize your own life, and some simple tools that can help you spend more of your time on the stuff that is truly important to you.

Exercise: Towards the end of this episode I ask you to think about what things can go in your personal F*ck-It Bucket. Grab a piece of paper, put a line down the middle. Put a title on one side "What Matters Most", and on the other side title it "F*ck-It Bucket". This is a very quick and easy way to do an audit of your priorities and what you might need to pay more attention to.
