Welcome to EKA 141! Today we are joined by our friends Hanny, Cyle and Joey aka latchkey kids, a New Jersey band based in Philly. Join us as we explore the journey of the band Latchkey Kids, their influences, the creative process, and the making of their latest album 'Year of Summers'. We talk about Tom May from The Menzingers involvement in the record and how that relationship came to fruition, working with Kyle Pulley, and the greek mythology present throughout the lyrics. As usual, the conversation inevitably turns to Fall Out Boy for a bit as it tends to do around here! This new record is about as emo as emo gets if you ask us, so please take the time to go check it out.

Welcome to EKA140! Today we are joined by Jose Prieto, aka MakeWar! I first heard Jose's music about a decade ago so when our friend Gary Cioni texted me to suggest bringing Jose on, I was immediately excited. Jose has a helluva story and we cover as much of it as we can in this hour long conversation. From his arrival in America from Venezuela to learning english through "Friends" to finding punk rock, we learn all about Jose's life leading into MakeWar and since. He tells us about meeting Brendan Kelly from The Lawrence Arms and winning him over with an acoustic set, signing with Fat Wreck, The new NOFX movie and tons more punk rock lore. We took Jose away from his scheduled Survivor night, so we made sure to touch on the show a little. Is MakeWar an emo band? Would a Rock Against Bush style compilation make a difference in 2026? Why is Fest the best fest? Jose tells us the answers to all of these questions and more!

Welcome to EKA139! Today we're joined by one of Michigan's finest, Potionseller. Austen and Andy were kind enough to join us to talk all about Buzzard, their new album dropping on May 15th courtesy of Brain Synthesizer. We discuss the journey they went through trying to find a label to put it out after their previous label folded. It's been a helluva wait for Buzzard to finally come out but it's nearly here. There was quite a few technical difficulties for nearly everyone in this episode so at times we lose people but that just leads to more dynamic conversation as we touch on everything from Kid Rock to Galaxy Gas to Coors Lights to Michigan Mt. Rushmore's. Be sure to check out Buzzard when it comes out or else you will be inflicted with the PSelly curse as well. We're onto you, big emo.

Welcome to EKA 138! Today we are joined by Kory Gregory of Prince Daddy & The Hyena for a wide ranging chit chat about their new album Hotwire Trip Switch and more. P Daddy has been one of the more requested bands in show history so it was a pleasure to have Kory join us. We discuss the differences between this record and Cosmic Thrill Seekers or I Thought You Didn't Like Leaving, the intentionality in the song writing, and if this is their best album yet (hint: yes). Kory talks about having to play the social media and press game and how it has changed over the last 10 years and whether or not he enjoys it. Also, Weezer comes up because of course they do. You won't believe Kory's Weezer hot takes! So brave, yet so true. This new record has been described by some (us) as "Fountains of Wayne on Amphetamines", while Kory says it is their attempt at a pop record. As of right now, Hotwire Trip Switch is our AOTY so it was a true pleasure getting to discuss it in detail. Look for P Daddy in your town this spring, as their tour starts in May!

Welcome to EKA137! Today we are joined by Brian of Filth Is Eternal, a band based out of Seattle. Their new album Impossible World dropped last month, featuring cameos from a few well known names in the industry, including a gentleman named Joe Trohman! Obviously we discuss how Joe ended up playing on their new record, as well as debating Fall Out Boy's hardcore credibility. Along with this, we also talk about the Seattle DIY scene, the importance of the Vera Project, and the way the scene has changed over the last decade or so. As former DIY venue owners themselves, this was an interesting perspective on the inner workings of the DIY community and we were absolutely floored at the amount of work Brian and the band do to cultivate their community. Truly a blessing to that scene. Please go check out their new record, this is one of the heaviest bands to come on our show so it was a true honor to have Brian join us. Follow them online at @filthiseternal .

Welcome to EKA 136.5! A minisode where we examine the ties between the world shutting down and the recent resurgence in emo and emo adjacent music. After interviewing 80+ bands on this show, an overwhelming amount of them formed during covid. Some people baked sourdough some people made bands, I guess. From nostalgia acts to the litany of great young bands popping up over the past few years, it really does feel like 2020 was a bit of a calatyst. Don't get us wrong, still a net negative for the entire planet, but if there was one benefit to the pandemic it may have been the boost in creativity due to the free time? Weigh in below in the comments section to let us know what you think!

Welcome to EKA135! Today we are joined by Jake and Alex from subtitles., an emo band based in Arizona but also based in France? That's right, we got the transcontinental Twenty One Pilots here. Jake is in Arizona and Alex is in his native France, but somehow they are making magic happen from across the planet. Last month they released their debut album "subtitles. on" on March 19th and we were able to talk to them about making the album with Kris Crummet and JoJo Centineo as well as a ton of other topics. We talked about their origins, making things work long distance, the differences between France and the US and the Ernie Ball battle of the bands to play the Vans Warped Tour.
