Welcome to EKA 155! Today we are joined by Andrew Sacher, senior editor and podcast host at Brooklyn Vegan, to talk about his upcoming book Emo Revival! When Andrew's book was announced I was hoping we'd be able to have him on to talk about this important period together. Along with a deep dive on the writing process of the book, Andrew also tells us WHY he wrote this book. We also talk about fifth wave emo, third wave emo, second wave emo and a liiiil bit of revolution summer too. Andrew was an absolute gem and his book is so incredibly written. It truly feels like getting in a time machine back to 2008 Philadelphia or Wilkes-Barre, in the most magical way.
You can pre-order the book here!

Welcome to EKA153! Today we are once again joined by Bryce and AJ of the band halftimeshow out of Joplin MO (among other places. As you know, the halftimeshow song Hero of Roku City is our shows theme song and the band has finally released the follow up, their first full length "soft spot". Unfortunately we had some technical difficulties come into play that took out about 30 minutes of this interview (I'm blaming Big Emo. Or honestly, it could have been Berkeley considering we lost the part where Bryce said he prefers Arden's version of the Pinhead EP...). Regardless, this was a great time and we implore you all to go check out their new record Soft Spot!

Welcome to EKA152! Today We're joined by Max Tomack-Villalobos from the band Kiss The Scientist outta the 818! KTS are signed to Take This To Heart like so many previous guests (Palette Knife, T!IHI, PONY, Future Teens) so we knew we had to have them on! Fresh off the heels of releasing a new single and their debut EP, Max was kind enough to tell us the bands history, his random Hoobastank connection, his favorite Adam Driver and Brendan Fraser movies and so much more! We touch on how special KROQ was to Southern California (and just how far they've fallen off) as well as how the band found themselves making "midwest emo" after first planning on being a bit more of a blues band. Kiss The Scientist have a ton of exciting moves on the horizon, and it's going to be fun watching this band explode. Shoutout Northidge!

Welcome to EKA151! Today we are joined by Mike Jansen and Mark O'Connell of the band Me.! You may recognize Mark from the 20+ years spent behind the kit with Taking Back Sunday, but Mike is new to a lot of us so we had him tell us his story as well as how he went from submitting music to singing in Me.. We touch on Mark and Eddie Reyes reconnecting and rediscovering the simple joy of playing music with your friend and setting aside the bs, Mark's recovery, and renewed excitement for music. These fellas are very excited, and it's very invigorating. The debut album from Me., All Good Things comes out on July 24th but their first single "Special" is out now!

Welcome to EKA150! Can you believe we made it to 150 without getting in hot water even one time!? Anyways, today we're joined by Nat Brennan of Arcadia Grey! As veterans of our DIY scene, Arcadia Grey are a band we've wanted on the show for quite some time so it's only fitting that they're our guest for this milestone episode. Nat gives us the full Arcadia Grey lore, from high school to adulthood, from Konami Code to Septum Ring, this one is for the real Arcadia Grey heads. I met Nat here in LA a couple months ago and publicly harassed them to come on the show until they agreed while we were at the merch table LOL. We talk about this tour with Dear Maryanne, Equipment, Pretty Bitter, Cheem, Dear Cincinnati and others, as well as the bands experience playing fest over the years. Of course, we touch on the new singles "Septum Ring" and "Donnie Darko Polo". The writing and recording, as well as if they'll be part of a larger project. Along with all of this, we talk worst weezer record, worst blink-182 record, as well as the safest and most respectful ways to address people. Oh yeah, Nat also lays down some DIY etiquette for fans and bands alike and ngl, pretty valid takes!
Go stream Arcadia Grey. Please.

Welcome to EKA149! Today we're joined by Skiimo out of Denver Colorado! This interview was a long time comin'! Skiimo were originally supposed to be on in December of last year but had to cancel last minute. I was supposed to see Skiimo here in SoCal a few weeks later, but I wasn't able to make it. Finally, 6 months later we get a chance to meet. During this conversation with Bryson and Zack, we talk about the bands separate origins in the midwest, moving to Denver, and starting the band. These fellas keep busy. Late last year they released their first full length album Nothing Ever Changes and we talk all about the making of that as well as the two EPs they released before it (all in a 14 or so month span? sheesh). Skiimo share the story of getting Cory Castro from Free Throw's attention and how the opportunity to work together came to be. Also, we may or may not confirm Skiimo LP2 in this episode. It's a very revealing conversation and it was well worth the wait.
But wait, there's more! Along with all of this we also dive into the Denver Broncos, their favorite I Think You Should Leave sketches, the time they got gaslit at the Whataburger and so much more!
Go stream Skiimo today!

Welcome to EKA 148.5! In todays supersized minisode (lol) Robb and Amanda are breaking down the New York Times list of the 30 greatest living American songwriters and trust me, we both have thoughts. Some we agree with, some we're indifferent on, some we disagree with so much we consider throwing our laptop over the balcony. Who are the greatest living US songwriters? Taylor Swift? Bruce Springsteen? Jack Antanoff? More importantly though, who are the greatest songwriters in EMO?!? Not just all time, but right now? Shane Sails? Low Blow Patsy? Isaiah from Leisure Hour? Mike Summerbruise? Allen Arm's Length? A mystery different answer? Let us know in the comments who ya got! Please be sure to subscribe, it would mean the absolute world to us! We've got some cool guests coming up this summer and we will see you at a litany of shows and festivals!
