Welcome to EKA205! Today we are joined by Jon Devoto, guitarist for the Oakland CA band The Matches. Full disclosure (as you'll clearly be able to tell) I am a rather big fan of The Matches. Maybe one of my 5 favorite bands of my formative years, so this was a special chance for me to ask questions as a fan AND a fake journalist. Jon talks about the recent run of shows, why we don't see them at more festivals, which album is his favorite, working with so many producers on Decomposer (Nick Hexum, Mark Hoppus, John Feldmann, etc) and so much more.
Along with band stuff, Jonathan was also kind enough to talk about his personal life. From his days as an overly hyper kid doing pushups, to his battle with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy plus his current work helping others in the same position. We also have some fun taking shots at that jabroni jerry seinfeld.
This was an incredibly special episode for me, on a personal level. I hope you enjoy, and many thanks to Jon for doing this.

Welcome to a special EKA203! Today we are celebrating and explaining the EKA 200! Our list of the top 200 emo albums of all time, as chosen by 139 people with different opinions on what emo is and what emo albums belong. In this episode we'll give you the backstory, the process, the math that went into scoring, as well as some peaks at the list. We'll even reveal the top 20 or so if that's alright?Again, please remember that music is subjective. I sent the form to over 300 people, and this list is the cumulative opinion of 136 of them (plus the 3 of us). The list is live now at http://emokidsanonymous.com!
Thank you to Phil from Rock For Initiative podcast for making the website presentation 5000000x better than I could have ever imagined, thank you to Josh from Aren't We Amphibians for creating the graphics, Hunter for inspiring the project and everyone who participated in this. Lastly, thank you to everyone who reads the list and has an opinion, good or bad. My greatest hope is that we all discover or rediscover a handful of classic albums.

Welcome to EKA202! Today we are joined by Allen Steinberg of Arm's Length! Arm's Length has been one of our most requested guest and it was an absolute honor to get to chat with Allen before their show at The Regent in LA. We talk about the bands stateside success, his favorite emo album (hint: it's The Hotelier), Hot Mulligan, When to expect the next record and so much more. We talk about our shared Canadian heritage! Shoutout to Allen's mom who is apparently a huge Sum 41 fan?!? Hell yeah. We talk about the difficulties of crossing over as a Canadian band (both literally and figuratively), as well as what bands from up north we need to keep our eye on. Also, we get the full story of what happened with the infamous backflipping during the serious part of morning person. Truly a gem, thanks Allen!

Welcome to EKA200! Today we are joined by Muncie's finest, Isaiah Raegan and Grace aka Leisure Hour! With their upcoming album release on the horizon, we were able to get the whole group together for a nice long sit down where we cover EVERYTHING. From the early days of the band before they found Raegan in college, to the disappointment after the Sunnyside, to retooling and crushing it ever since, LH LLC were kind enough to give us the fool scoop of everything leading up to the new record. The Indianans gave us a behind the scenes look at each track on the "...That One Day" and it gets HEAVY. Shoutout Leisure Hour, this new LP is absolutely their best work yet. Oh yeah, we also talk Spy Kids (and Spy Kids 2), Cheaper By The Dozen 2, New Moon, Twilight and every iteration of Wonka? Sorry, Timothee.

Welcome to EKA197! Today we're joined by Joe & Craig from critically acclaimed nashville emo band dad hats! This band was recommended to me by our friend Scott's Records, and once I got my hands on their upcoming album wash. rinse. repeat., i knew we had to have them on. We talk about the bands journey, from their time together as 6th graders to today, all the way to today as they prep to release their third lp (shoutout mind over matter records!). Along with dad hats news, we also talk about Joe's work booking Jorts Fest as well as his advice for any prospective festival bookers. The first single from the new record drops next friday before the full length comes out on Oct 23 and believe me when I tell you that you're in for a treat with this one. A late game AOTY candidate. These fellas are a great time, highly highly recommend.
