    Show notes

One of our last remaining people on the "How on EARTH have they not been on CrimsonCast?" list --- Tricia Whitaker of Apple TV and the Tampa Bay Rays finally joins the show. Tricia and GC have a wide-ranging conversation that touches on her time covering Indiana athletics as both a student media member and a professional reporter, work-life balance, the life of a sideline reporter in Major League Baseball and some of the interesting things about the job, and a look at the upcoming MLB season. Also, the much-whispered-about CrimsonCast Bison t-shirt makes a couple of surprise appearances (on the video version of the show only).

    Ep 1077 - Indiana Men's Basketball Post-season Recap Part 1 Mar 19, 2024
    Show notes

Scott and GC start the post-mortem evaluation of the 2023-24 season by talking through the team and individual statistical performances and overall schedule from the year. We find a few positives, a lot of questionables, and a lot of negatives. We try to put those items into larger context, and compare IU's 2023-24 season to past seasons.
We also talk extensively on topics brought up by Back Home Network Discord subscribers, including:

    • Mike Woodson's "true fan" comments and how that has resonated (poorly) with the fan base
    • The scheduling process for IU and whether it was adequate this year
    • What makes IU attractive in the transfer portal
    • What a baseline level of success looks like for IU in 2024-25

    Ep 1076 - B1G Tournament Loss to Nebraska / No NIT Mar 17, 2024
    Show notes

Scott & Galen discuss the season ending loss to Nebraska in the B1G Tournament. Dip their toe in the water of the NIT discussion.

Ep 1075 - Senior Night Win / Regular Season Recap / Post Game Comments Mar 11, 2024
    Show notes

On a jam-packed episode of CrimsonCast, Scott and Galen talk through the Hoosiers' tight victory over Michigan State, and what made it possible for IU to pull out the victory. After dissecting things on that end, the pod shifts to a wider angle in looking at the regular season as a whole. We talk about the team's struggles with consistency, the lack of any top-end or signature wins, and the overall flow of the season.
Finally we examine the Senior Day post-game comments from Mike Woodson, and discuss the state of the program and its relationship with the fan base headed into what seems likely to be a critical and turbulent off-season.

    Ep 1074 - Understanding The Predictives Mar 11, 2024
    Show notes

On this live edition of CrimsonCast, GC takes people on a tour of the predictive metrics - KenPom, Torvik, the NET - and discusses how and why Indiana continues to struggle in all of them. He also talks through Indiana's path through the Big Ten Tournament, why the Hoosiers will need to win the conference tournament to have any shot at the NCAA tournament, and how some other teams' NET numbers work.
Since this podcast was done as a live stream with visuals, it's probably better for you to watch it (as opposed to just listening to it). So if you'd like to do that, you can find the permanent link to the video here: Understanding the Predictives (YouTube Version).

    Ep 1073 - Meditations Mar 09, 2024
    Show notes

IU has their Senior Day ceremony tomorrow at Assembly Hall as they host Michigan State in the regular season finale. We preview the game and discuss the strenghts and weaknesses of the Spartans, the things that have caused IU to be successful the last few games, and how the matchup might look.
Scott then joins the podcast and we discuss the McNeeley decommitment and what it means in the bigger picture. We also discuss the circumstances around the Woodson "announcement", the vibe of the fan base, the pitfalls of overreliance on the tranfer portal, and the concerns about the trajectory of the program from a roster management perspective.

Ep 1072 - HoosierLyss Returns! Alyssa Andrews Joins The Show Mar 09, 2024
    Show notes

Joining the doctor on this episode is Alyssa Andrews --- you may remember her as one-time IU internet sensation HoosierLyss. Or maybe as Fox 59's Alyssa Andrews, board-certified meteorologist. We talk with Alyssa about her time at IU, her pathway to the HoosierLyss persona, her professional journey through television, and the nature of media coverage as it relates to the weather. It's a very wide-ranging conversation!

Ep 1071 - IUWBB Big Ten Tournament Preview Mar 06, 2024
    Show notes

In this week's episode, Kevin and Amanda recap Indiana's regular season and then look ahead at this year's tournament in Minneapolis. They also talk about where Indiana goes from this point on with the injuries to Mackenzie Holmes and Lilly Meister.

    Ep 1070 - The Bounceback Continues Mar 03, 2024
    Show notes

Indiana had a roller coaster of a game at Maryland on Sunday, surrendering multiple double-digit runs to the Terrapins and falling behind by 16 points early in the second half, before an offensive rally the likes of which we haven't seen this year and some improved defensive effort netted the Hoosiers a road win and a season sweep.
Scott and GC talk through what we saw in the game, how the Hoosiers have struggled with consistency throughout the season, and how today's game fits into the larger narrative of the 2023-24 season.
