Ep 1089 - Courtney Cronin of ESPN Apr 17, 2024
    Show notes

GC welcomes Courtney Cronin, IU alumna and ESPN Chicago Bears reporter, to the podcast. We talk about her background as a Chicago-area native, her time at Indiana as a student and media member, and her gradual progression through the sports media landscape before reaching the Worldwide Leader in Sports.
At the 28:00 minute mark we talk about NFL draft coverage, the environment in Chicago surrounding the team, and the ways in which local knowledge helps coverage.
The show goes pretty deep into work-life balance, the sports media grind and the sorts of things that go through the minds of the people who cover the games. We talk about Courtney's experiences on Around The Horn, her proximity to the filming locations of The Bear, and why JJ McCarthy is getting talked about as a top six pick. Plus we talk about a bunch of other things! It was a wide-ranging conversation that I thoroughly enjoyed, hopefully you will too.

    Ep 1088 - Reader Mailbag Pt 2 Apr 11, 2024
    Show notes

Scott joins DoctorGC for the second act of the Reader Mailbag series in April, as we hit on several topics relevant to IU basketball, including questions on how to attract top talent and mesh them into an existing squad, a clarification from Scott on the "home run" nature of past portal activity for IU, Dan Hurley as an analogue for Bob Knight, an more.

On this episode of CrimsonCast, Scott and the doctor talk about Purdue's appearance in the national title game and the larger implications it might have for Indiana basketball's place in the state. We discuss the implications of the last 30 years of basketball in the state, the decisions made by both programs, and the concerns that IU might have for the near future in terms of its place within the hearts and minds of basketball people in the state.
We then talk about IU's forays into the portal as they currently stand, the issues that the Hoosiers are facing in terms of timetable and tasks, and whether or not concerns about the lack of portal commits are justifiable at this stage.

Ep 1085 - Scalia Triumphs, ISU stumbles, the CST is here but not really Apr 05, 2024
    Show notes

On this edition of CrimsonCast Daily, the doctor lauds Sara Scalia for her performance in the three point shooting contest (and chides ESPN's unfortunate broadcast approach), talks a bit about Indiana State's disappointing end to a galvanizing season in Terre Haute, and discusses the new CST / college football proposal.

    Show notes

On today's CrimsonCast Daily, DoctorGC talks through some of the key items from the past few days, including:

    • Indiana Women's basketball coming oh so close against South Carolina, the legacy of Mackenzie Holmes, and the culture of the program under Teri Moren
    • The official return of Mackenzie Mgbako, the concerns from some corners about "running it back" and why those may be unfounded, and the area of greatest focus for 2024-25
    • Purdue in the Final Four, and what that means for Indiana in the short and long term

    Ep 1083 - Friday Thoughts Mar 29, 2024
    Show notes

A solo podcast today, as the doctor talks through some items of interest to Indiana athletics. 5 Star recruit Bryson Tucker committed to Indiana men's basketball on Thursday, so there's some talk of that recruitment, the benefits of Tucker's game, and how he might fit into IU's system.
Also discussed is IU's system. What are they going to do next year? A lot of it depends on what happens in the next two weeks, and that whole process gets discussed.
The Sweet 16 is happening, and on the men's side, an interesting trend has started to emerge regarding offense vs defense. How does IU fit into that paradigm, and how much further do the Hoosiers have to go to compete at the levels we saw on Thursday night?
Finally, the IU women have a Sweet 16 matchup of their own this evening as they take on top overall seed South Carolina. Some thoughts on what IU has to do to stay in the game and win it, alongside some perspective on where Indiana has succeeded and struggled so far this season.

Ep 1082 - Indiana WBB advances to the Sweet 16 Mar 28, 2024
    Show notes

This week, Kevin and Amanda look at Indiana's electric start to March Madness. They look at what went right for the Hoosiers in their wins over Fairfield and Oklahoma. Then they discuss IU's upcoming matchup against the best team in the country, the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Ep 1081 - Indiana's Efficiency War, Purdue's Expectations, and Dusty May to Michigan Mar 25, 2024
    Show notes

A quick podcast to start off the week, talking about this year's tournament successes and what their efficiency numbers tell us about Indiana basketball's pathway to success, the media's bizarrely low expectations of Purdue, and Dusty May's decision to go to Michigan.

Ep 1080 - Connor Onion from Big Ten Network Mar 22, 2024
    Show notes

Scott is joined by Connor Onion, Play by Play voice for the Big Ten Network.
They discuss the recent IU Basketball season, did it meet expectations and what IU has to do this off-season to right the ship. They also talk about tough travel for Big Ten referees and the broadcast teams, along with Connor’s favorite arenas in the Big Ten.
They also discuss the positive off-season IU Football has had, then wrap up with some stories about Connor’s trip to the West Coast last year and how it might have been the reason we now have new teams in the Big Ten.
