    Canadian Club of Toronto

The Canadian Club of Toronto is Canada’s preeminent public affairs podium. Since 1897, we have served an ambitious and important mission: to connect Canadians with world-class leaders and newsmakers and be a leading platform for influencers to engage Canadians on what matters most.

Over our 125 year history as a not-for-profit organization, we continue to be a forum for Governors General and Prime Ministers, CEOs and Nobel laureates, scientists, artists and innovators. We have a proud tradition of hosting national and international leaders in politics, business, social innovation and the media, and our members and audiences are drawn from an equally diverse and distinguished group of leaders.

The Canadian Club addresses routinely generate national coverage across multiple platforms. In addition to reported media coverage and our in-person audience of several hundred people, we make our programming accessible to all Canadians through broadcasts on cable television and webcasts, available online.

Events run between September and June in downtown Toronto. As an independent, non-profit organization, we make all our events open to the public. Tickets can be purchased online or through our office at 416-364-5590.

Medical cannabis is one of the world’s newest, fastest-growing and most complicated industries. It is also one of the leading contenders to strengthen Canada’s life sciences sector in terms of innovation, research, employment, and therapeutic options for patients. Greg Engel, CEO of Tilray, one of Canada’s leading licensed producers of medical cannabis, will explore what’s next for Canada and medical cannabis and how our home-grown expertise can be exported to the world. Engel will be joined in conversation by Tom Blackwell of the National Post. Bio Greg Engel, a pharmaceutical executive with a history of leading early-stage companies to new levels of growth, is Chief Executive Officer at Tilray, a Health Canada licensed producer and a national leader in the production and distribution of premium medical cannabis. Through his keen business strategy, aggressive business tactics and laser-like focus on meeting and exceeding the needs and expectations of patients and physicians, Greg has successfully led the commercial efforts of four healthcare companies in Canada and globally. In the process, he has built a reputation for providing inspirational strategic and operational leadership that is grounded in a strong ethical approach. Before joining Tilray, Greg served as General Manager of Forest Laboratories Canada, General Manager of Encysive Canada and CEO of Northern Therapeutics. With more than 20 years experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical devices field, Greg is no stranger to the plight of unmet needs and underserved patients who lack access to appropriate therapeutic options. Bringing medical cannabis out of the shadows and into the light as a mainstream treatment option for individuals suffering from debilitating, life-altering health conditions, as well as helping establish a body of scientific evidence to support the therapeutic benefits of medical cannabis fits squarely with his vision for Tilray’s growth. Greg has explained his motivation to give up the world of pharmaceuticals for the uncharted course of medical cannabis quite simply: It’s challenging, groundbreaking, provocative, personal and timely. At Tilray, Greg leads a growing team of industry-leading experts working to advance the science, safety, and efficacy of medical cannabis for patients and physicians in Canada and around the world. Greg is a graduate of the University of Guelph and went on to complete the Queen’s University Executive Marketing Program.
