    Canadian Club of Toronto

The Canadian Club of Toronto is Canada’s preeminent public affairs podium. Since 1897, we have served an ambitious and important mission: to connect Canadians with world-class leaders and newsmakers and be a leading platform for influencers to engage Canadians on what matters most.

Over our 125 year history as a not-for-profit organization, we continue to be a forum for Governors General and Prime Ministers, CEOs and Nobel laureates, scientists, artists and innovators. We have a proud tradition of hosting national and international leaders in politics, business, social innovation and the media, and our members and audiences are drawn from an equally diverse and distinguished group of leaders.

The Canadian Club addresses routinely generate national coverage across multiple platforms. In addition to reported media coverage and our in-person audience of several hundred people, we make our programming accessible to all Canadians through broadcasts on cable television and webcasts, available online.

Events run between September and June in downtown Toronto. As an independent, non-profit organization, we make all our events open to the public. Tickets can be purchased online or through our office at 416-364-5590.

Canada’s Food Moment: From Ambitious Investment to Global Growth Jun 01, 2026
    Show notes

Canada stands at a defining moment, shaped by global uncertainty and growing pressure on food systems worldwide. Demand for secure, high-quality, and responsibly produced food is accelerating, even as geopolitical instability, climate risk, and supply chain disruption reshape the global landscape. At the same time, Canada’s agriculture and food sector, our largest manufacturing industry, is not keeping pace with its potential, as more coordinated and better capitalized global competitors move faster to capture this opportunity. Efforts remain fragmented, capital is not scaling at the level seen in leading markets, and the country continues to struggle to tell a clear, unified story about its role in the future of food. And yet, the opportunity is significant. With greater alignment and ambition, Canada is well positioned to lead. Realizing that potential will also require a more confident national narrative, one that reflects both the sector’s achievements, the urgency of the moment and Canada’s generational opportunity to lead in the future of food and agriculture. Join Canadian Club Toronto on June 1 for a conversation with Justine Hendricks, President and Chief Executive Officer of Farm Credit Canada, and Alison Sunstrum, Managing Partner at NYA Ventures. Moderated by Evan Fraser, Executive Director, Arrell Food Institute, University of Guelph, this panel will explore what it will take to move from potential to scale, and how stronger alignment, increased investment, and a more unified and confident voice can help position Canada’s food sector for global leadership.

    Tom Jenkins May 13, 2026
    Show notes

Artificial intelligence is no longer just a technology investment—it is a strategic one. The organizations pulling ahead are not those with the most advanced models, but those making deliberate decisions about their data: how it is governed, where it resides, and how it is used. Join Canadian Club Toronto on May 13, when Tom Jenkins, Chair of OpenText and one of Canada’s leading voices on enterprise data and AI, examines what it takes to move from AI experimentation to real execution. Drawing on his work in Enterprise Artificial Intelligence and the newly released The Agentic AI Genome, Jenkins will explore how leading organizations are redesigning workflows, treating data as a strategic asset, and building the governance required to deploy AI with confidence. This discussion will also consider the broader implications for Canada. Decisions around data infrastructure, sovereignty, and partnerships are no longer technical—they are central to national competitiveness. Mr. Jenkins will be joined in conversation by John Stackhouse, SVP, RBC.

Trans Mountain and Canada’s Energy Infrastructure May 11, 2026
    Show notes

Join Canadian Club Toronto on May 11 for a timely and thought-provoking discussion on nation-building projects, featuring Mark Maki, President and CEO of Trans Mountain Corporation, and Elizabeth Wademan, President and CEO of Canada Development Investment Corporation (CDEV). Completed in May 2024, the Trans Mountain expansion tripled capacity on Canada’s only crude oil pipeline to Pacific tidewater. Spanning more than 1,180 kilometres from Alberta to British Columbia’s coast, it stands as one of the most significant and complex infrastructure projects in modern Canadian history. Today, over 65 percent of shipments from the West Coast go to Asia, opening important new markets for Canadian oil. CDEV operates at the intersection of public policy and private markets, serving as the federal government’s active asset manager and financial advisor, with oversight of more than $75 billion in assets and initiatives, including Trans Mountain. Mark and Elizabeth will explore how the expansion is reshaping Canada’s position as an energy superpower—strengthening trade relationships, particularly across Asia, and enhancing long-term competitiveness, energy security, and economic resilience in an increasingly uncertain geopolitical environment. As Canada enters a new phase of energy and infrastructure development, this discussion will focus on what it takes and what comes next.
