Bad Movies Rule!

Latest Episodes:

#164 - Young Guns (1988) Jun 21, 2024

Show notes

The critics hated this Brat-Pack western starring Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen, and Kiefer Sutherland, and even though it was a hit enough with audiences to spawn a sequel the critics thought this was just straight 80's cheese, even though it's supposed to be in the 1880s. Does the movie deserve the title of Bad Movie, or is it much better than critics gave it credit for?

#163 - Missing in Action (1984) Jun 14, 2024

Show notes

Cannon Films liked the script from Rambo 2, but hated the budget so they passed and then decided to make their own version! Chuck Norris has to head back into Vietnam, beard first to take out bad guys and bring his fellow Americans home. Featuring a smack-talking performance from James Hong and some insane stunts, but is that enough to make this a bad movie that rules?

#162 - Ghosts of Mars (2001) Jun 07, 2024

Show notes

We could have had Snake Plissken in space, but instead, we end up with Desolation Jones on Mars in what is essentially John Carpenter's goodbye to the studio system. Ice Cube replaces Kurt Russell, throw in Natasha Henstridge and Jason Statham (with hair!) and you've got the makings for a cult classic! But does the movie deserve a second life? Critics and audiences alike haven't been kind to it, so we take our swing to see if Ghosts of Mars is a bad movie that rules!

MAILBAG - Bruce Wayne Sucks Jun 05, 2024

Show notes

On this mailbag, the Jennifer Garner debate rages on. James is tired of Bruce Wayne, Bob makes fun of someone having a bad accident plus more blind rankings and a voicemail from our favorite disgruntled government employee! Tons to enjoy on this new mailbag!

#161 - The Villain (1979) May 31, 2024

Show notes

Arnold makes every movie better, but what can he do with a live-action Looney Tunes remake like The Villain? Kirk Douglas and Ann-Margret co-star with him as he was just figuring things out acting-wise. Regardless, does our primary thesis still hold water, or is this a cartoon that didn't lean enough into the cartooniness of its premise? Listen along as we go scene-by-scene through this comedy western with Arnold Schwarzenegger!

#160 - Varsity Blues (1999) May 24, 2024

Show notes

Even though critics came down on this film hard, most movie-goers gave this movie a TEN!! So who is right? Today we look at Varsity Blues to see if it still holds up as a great football movie, a great teen movie, and a a great James Vanderbeek movie (do such things exist?). At the very least it has an insane performance from Jon Voight with a little bit of Paul Walker sprinkled into the mix. If you dislike football, you don't want this movie!

#159 Samurai Cop (1991) May 17, 2024

Show notes

Some say this is the greatest Bad movie of all time, up there with The Room & Troll 2, but still, we had never seen Samurai Cop ourselves. Having made our film previously with the same budget, we have a soft spot for micro-budget indies, and this one starring Matt Hannon (later Matt Karedas) and Robert Z'Dar (Tango & Cash) has to be seen to be believed. We delved into this cop movie where they don't really cop. Keep it warm.

#158 Wagons East (1994) May 10, 2024

Show notes

This movie is like putting the best football players on a team and then they lose to the New York Jets. A seriously stunning cast of actors, featuring John Candy, Richard Lewis, John C. McGinley, Ellen Greene & Charles Rocket just rolled out of bed and decided to make a comedy with the boldest of approaches. What if we don't land a single joke? Sadly, this movie is more remembered for being the last film made by John Candy (Canadian Bacon filmed earlier). James, Rob, Nicole, and Patrick see if they can watch the movie and figure out where it all went wrong.
