    Authentic

G’day, I’m Kat John, authenticity coach, author, keynote speaker and everyday human. This podcast is where we tell the truth. No highlight reels, no love and light spritzing, no pretending. Just real conversations about what it actually takes to live aligned with who you are beneath the roles, patterns, and conditioning.

I teach this work because I live this work. Together, we explore the ongoing dance between your ego self and your true self in relationships, money, work, family, and the everyday moments that shape a well-lived life.

Expect grounded guidance, raw reflections, and conversations that don’t shy away from the messy middle. This is a space to get honest, take responsibility, and come home to yourself, one real step at a time.

New episodes drop weekly on Mondays. Listen wherever you get your podcasts.
And if it lands, a rating or review genuinely helps this work reach the people who need it.

    Emotional Intellect Oct 12, 2020
    Show notes

Meet my mate Pete, a qualified Transpersonal Psychotherapist, Mental Health teacher and Counsellor at Elk & Me Therapies and Dispensary. He's a rock solid human being who I've had the privilege of working alongside back in the day, have experienced his work as a client and someone I get to call my friend.

He's worked in the mental health sector and the Healing Arts for over 15 years, specialising in transpersonal one on one therapy, couples therapy, adolescents and adults with mental health and drug alcohol issues. In today's episode we talk about emotional intellect, why it's hard (but also possible) to respond powerfully rather than react from pain, and how to allow all emotions to be there without needing to rationalise them.

Enjoy today's episode and get ready to take some seriously good nuggets away!

Long Term Relationships And Sex Oct 05, 2020
    Show notes

Not gonna lie, Steve and I are nearly four years into our relationship and my sexual drive has shifted from when we first met. Now I know this is a normal thing but I wanted to know why for two reasons. One, my, "it's too late, I'm too tired, I'm about to get my period", and so on reasons were wearing Steve down. Second, I didn't want to be nearly 35 years old and dismissing my sexual energy.

I got onto an incredible book by Esther Perel, Mating In Captivity. In my opinion this is a must read for everyone to appreciate the real reasons why it takes a lot of work, creativity and open communication in long term relationships for sex to be part of the relationship.

In this episode I'm sharing my journey and what I've discovered so far.

Creating Success And Learning The Hard Lessons Sep 28, 2020
    Show notes

Emily Osmond and I have shit tonne in common when it comes to creating a business and learning the sucky (but necessary) hard lessons along the way. Em quit her job to go full time in her business when she was 26 years old, with a mortgage to pay and no business plan (sounds like me legend). She knew her job wasn’t making her happy and believed she could create something of her own.

After what she calls a “wild ride on the entrepreneurial roller coaster of highs and lows”, she now runs a global business from her living room, hosts a podcast that is listened to in more than 70 countries, coaches hundreds of entrepreneurs inside her online programs, and loves the work that she gets to call her ‘job’.

Her mission is to help other women to create a business on their own terms that provides them with the income, lifestyle and freedom they desire. Em is an international marketing coach, top-ranking podcast host, speaker, interiors lover and black coffee drinker.

    Giving ZEROFKS Ain't Easy Sep 21, 2020
    Show notes

To this day, giving ZEROFKS for the things that I "think" are important or matter (but aren't) isn't easy. I'm forever determining and asking myself, "is this really where I want my focus to be?" There's a part of us all that cares a lot about what others think, how we're going to be perceived and if we'll be accepted or rejected. And it's this part of us that tends to focus and project our own thoughts and fears onto others, taking zero self responsibility for the quality of our thinking. Every time I put out an episode, instagram post or create a new program, this part of me is 100% focused on what others will think and if they'll like it. The key to giving ZEROFKS is how much am I going to make that matter? How much energy and attention am I going to give that thought? Enjoy today's episode and let's see what comes up for you!

    Don't Forget Your Humanity Sep 14, 2020
    Show notes

Prior to being told I was wearing my mask wrong and that, "it doesn't work unless it's above your nose", I was in a really flat, emotional and anxious state. I walked out of my home for some fresh air, to enjoy the sun and clear my head. I've been struggling with my the changes in our home of becoming an almost full-time step-parent, homeschooling for what seems like forever, running my business and showing up and being in lockdown for so long. When this person corrected me, I was mid taking in three fresh breaths of air to ease the anxiety in my chest. I thought are you fking kidding me? Is this what we've come to?

Before correcting another person about their mask, consider the human behind the mask, because there is one there with a beating heart.

    How are they doing?

    Maybe they’ve lost their job.

Maybe they’re as over it as the rest of us.

    Maybe they have asthma.

Maybe they just want some fresh fking air for a minute too.

Maybe they have something I don’t know about.

We’re now conditioned to correct people about mask wearing but please, don’t lose your sense of humanity in the process.

Why It's Hard To Level Up Sep 07, 2020
    Show notes

If only upgrading our lives was as easy as pressing new software update on our iPhones. We'd all be pressing that button right before bed, effortlessly being upgraded without needing to do any work. What a dream! But alas, we're human and it doesn't work that way (boo). Why is it so darn hard to face the shit in our lives? To avoid communicating honestly withy your partner when things aren't good, having a hard chat with yourself when you're screwing up your health, or facing really your finances when they're all messed up? It may sees easier to avoid what is actually causing pain or suffering but that eventually catches up with you and bites you in the butt.

    Humble Warrior Aug 31, 2020
    Show notes

This is how I'd best describe Manoj Dias. A humble warrior, beautiful friend to me and a teacher for the world, this legend's energy is something else. We met well over a decade ago in the party scene and even then he was always my safe space. If Manoj was around I felt like an angel was watching over me, for real!

Prior to the life he leads now Manoj was climbing the corporate ladder working his ass off and seemingly "had it all". The job, income, invites, parties, you name it. Yet anxiety was building inside him and escaping through drinking and drugs wasn't cutting it anymore. Insomnia was impairing him and his thoughts were all too consuming. This inevitably led to a major panic attack which scared the living shit out of him, but opened the door to finding alternative solutions to what was going on inside.

His shift from where he was to where he is today reminds us that real and lasting change for the better is possible. It sure isn't easy but it's possible when you take responsibility and accountability for where you are, what you're prepared to do about it and where you'd prefer to be. The work he shares through writing, meditation and speaking pierces straight through your heart and is the medicine our souls longs for. The world is a better place with Manoj in it.

    Redefining Masculinity Aug 24, 2020
    Show notes

I met Tom Harkin, founder of Tomorrow Man, in 2019 at a facilitated event run by Lululemon. 150+ legends were there to hear Tom speak about masculinity, what it looks like today and what it could look like tomorrow. Tom took us through some powerful exercises that opened up my eyes which is why I've brought him on the podcast.

He struggled with his own masculinity growing up, wishing he could be like the traditional bloke that was sold to him as a kid. On the night he said he hates public speaking and still gets nervous, wondering why he puts himself through that. But it's obvious to see that this guy has a massive heart to help guys, blokes, dudes and little dudes to redefine what masculinity is through disrupting the traditional stereotype of what it means to be a man, build emotional muscle and talk with greater depth, and reinvent a more flexible version of tomorrow's man.

    Struggletown Aug 17, 2020
    Show notes

Been struggling. Between looking after Steve who’s been off his feet for two weeks, homeschooling, coaching, launching a rebrand and lockdown 4 restrictions, my energy has been going out with not a lot coming back in. Last week I cracked and burst into tears in the bathroom. I needed a release. After letting it out I realised I’d shifted into martyr mode and, “I can do this all by myself” mode. This is a default position of mine, proving I can do it alone. I could see myself becoming tough on the exterior, hear my harsh tones and feeling guilty for acting like a bitch. So I’m sharing my little shit-show, how I've (really) been and what I’m doing about it. Hope you're all doing okay out there!

Rescuing Kids From Child Sex Slavery Aug 10, 2020
    Show notes

Millions of children around the world are trafficked or trapped in sexual exploitation with little hope for freedom. Within the first six months of being trafficked, the traffickers intention is to break the children - break their will, their choice and their freedom. I mean fk, can you imagine? The thought of this breaks my heart to say the very least and it's a matter I am dedicated to supporting and helping those committed to shutting down these operations. Today I speak with Paul Mergard from Destiny Rescue who has been helping free children in trafficking for over 20 years. Hearing what he has to say are really hard truths and realities not many of us have to think about. But knowing there are kids out there being forced to have sex with sometimes 20 plus men a night and forced to do it with a smile on their face is devastating which is why I am bringing this topic out of the dark and into our consciousness. One child said to Paul, "I have dreams too but they will never happen for me, so please don't let me dream".

Destiny Rescue's mission is to rescue, restore, empower and protect these children and shutdown these brothels. They have the man power standing by waiting to rescue but are busting for funds. It costs $1500 to rescue one child and $10,000 to do a full raid and shut the whole place down. We as a legendary community can begin these children's birth right to dream again, to dream something better for themselves.
