    Authentic

G’day, I’m Kat John, authenticity coach, author, keynote speaker and everyday human. This podcast is where we tell the truth. No highlight reels, no love and light spritzing, no pretending. Just real conversations about what it actually takes to live aligned with who you are beneath the roles, patterns, and conditioning.

I teach this work because I live this work. Together, we explore the ongoing dance between your ego self and your true self in relationships, money, work, family, and the everyday moments that shape a well-lived life.

Expect grounded guidance, raw reflections, and conversations that don’t shy away from the messy middle. This is a space to get honest, take responsibility, and come home to yourself, one real step at a time.

New episodes drop weekly on Mondays. Listen wherever you get your podcasts.
And if it lands, a rating or review genuinely helps this work reach the people who need it.

Feeling Lost In New Territory Mar 15, 2021
    Show notes

I’ve been having chats with my future self and receiving guidance on the changes to make to live even more in alignment with my heart. After making the changes, I’m now in new territory of more space for myself and my default is to fill it with work. I asked for the change I’m experiencing, and with that change comes a rearranging of how I once lived to how I choose to live moving forward.
I’m right in the midst of resistance and angst to the new reality I’ve created and I’m in the practice of being with this current state. Instead of avoiding or running away from it, I’m allowing it to be there because it’s simply part of the process. The less I fight it, the easier it will pass, because it always passes.

Make Yourself Matter Mar 08, 2021
    Show notes

I spent a lotta good years abandoning myself. Taking care of me wasn’t on the priority list, so you guessed it, everything or everyone came before me. The message I was sending was, “I don’t matter, I’m not important, I don’t have a backbone”. Speaking up and standing up for what I wanted felt too awkward, so I bid farewell to my sense of self.
It’s taken a lot of years to find my way back and to stay true to the most basic and foundational work — taking care of myself. This looks like moving my body daily, giving my mind space in meditation or contemplation, having quality alone time and eating well. These are my absolute non-negotiables that I just won’t fk with anymore. No matter how full life gets, these stay!!
This is sending a message that I matter, I’m important and I’m strong mentally to honour myself”. If you’re fking with your foundations, ask yourself what are your non-negotiables and choose one to focus on. Start somewhere.

Listen To Your Inner Voice Mar 01, 2021
    Show notes

For so long I lived not listening to, or honouring the voice inside me. The voice that knows exactly where I need to go, what to do, what not to do and how to be me. These days, it’s legit my #1 BFF and has led me to create a world I once dreamed of. Do I have resistance to it? Yah! Is it easy to follow its guidance? Sometimes yes, sometimes naaaaat! In today's episode I share a great tool to use to invite your inner voice in more to and listen to it just as much as you do the resistant voice.

Learn To Be Still Feb 22, 2021
    Show notes

I’m undergoing some deep energetic shifts and my ego ain’t liking it one little bit. To be truthful, I’ve been experiencing a fair whack of anxiety and self doubt. There’s a call I’m answering to really serve how I choose to serve, to create my life and use time how I really want to and it’s causing me to look at what I’m doing, reassess it and make changes. My word INTENTIONAL for this year is really well lit.
This means I’ve been working my absolute ass off to get things ready for The Legends launch, and at the same time reevaluate and reflect on what and what isn't working. It was perfect timing when I looked over @taniayorgey instagram today to pick a card and it was The Tower. Time to let go, let whatever needs to crumble, crumble, to rebuild or leave space and not fill it.
So as I hear all the doubt and feel all the anxiety, I choose to focus on what I know I’m being called to step into. Even though it’s challenging, I know it’s right and my future self is guiding me.
NB: Please forgive the audio for this episode. I recorded it in the car via my phone with a small rhodes mic.

Losing Yourself In Relationships Feb 15, 2021
    Show notes

I was that gal who morphed into what my partner did, ate, who be hung out with and how he lived. All my ways of being went “bye bye” because of a belief I held true that went something like this - “If you don’t do what they want to do, they’ll break up with you. You’ll appear difficult, you’ll be a drainer and that’s not how to keep a boyfriend. So just put your shit aside Ms John!”
That led me to planet LOST! and it took months (sometimes years) to retrieve my lost self and put it all back together again. Well fk that! I'd rather lose a relationship than lose myself again. However I do believe there is a sweet spot in the middle and that is that we can own who we are and share ourselves with another without getting lost.

Stop Getting Caught Up In Drama Feb 08, 2021
    Show notes

Oh it's easy isn't it, getting caught up in other people's shit storms, or, being the creator of a shit storm and wanting people on your side. I used to contribute to other people's drama by getting emotionally invested and involved, which was a complete waste of time. I added no value or real support to the person, giving away my power and encouraging them (unknowingly) to give theirs away too.
These days, I have way better boundaries in place as a way to respect my energy and offer empowerment to the other person. If you create drama or get sucked into it, listen to this.

Leaving Behind What You Know For What You Stand For Feb 01, 2021
    Show notes

Cathryn Wills established Sans Beast in June 2017, after a career spanning close to
30 years in the Australian fashion industry.
The late 80’s saw time in retail at Benetton, followed by various roles at Palmer Corporation, before gaining a BA Fashion at Melbourne’s RMIT. A substantial chapter at Country Road then followed, where Wills worked in knitwear, eventually becoming Knitwear Design Manager across the men’s and women’s divisions.
Post leaving Country Road, Wills pursued a freelance design career for a number of
years, before finding her niche at Mimco, joining founder and former owner Amanda
Briskin (-Rettig) in 2004. Wills went on to the role of Creative Director post the sale
of the business, and in 2010, expanded her creative remit to encompass the
commercial leadership of the brand, as Managing + Creative Director.
After living and breathing the world of leather handbags + accessories for over a
decade, Wills adopted a vegetarian diet in mid 2015 - going vegan 18 months later -
and progressively recognized a disconnect between her professional role and her
ethical stance on animal welfare and the environment. Through further education,
Wills saw the need to change her consumptive and creative path, eventually
resigning from MIMCO in early 2016.
In establishing Sans Beast, Wills has dedicated herself to building a design led,
quality brand, with compelling visual + written storytelling. The brand sources
responsibly manufactured, non-leather materials for the collection + manufactures in
an ethically run, family owned factory in Southern China. Sans Beast is PETA
accredited vegan + donates to animal sanctuary, Edgars Mission with every
    purchase made on the website.

Stop Wasting Time Jan 25, 2021
    Show notes

If you spend money how you're currently spending your time, would you be broke? This is a question I've been challenging my coaching clients on recently when they tell me they haven't followed through on the work. If you're not using time to your advantage and following through on what truly matters to you, then it's no wonder you're tired, exhausted, pissed off or burnt out. Aka, you're energetically broke.
I've been using a new technique recently to use my time more wisely and intentionally (my word for this year is "intentional"). Have a listen to apply this technique so you're no longer "broke".

    Building Authenticity Jan 18, 2021
    Show notes

One area where you can build authenticity and the ace feelings it brings, is to match your actions to your words. You would've heard the phrase, "practice what you preach", and this is exactly what I'm talking about. Too many times you may say things about love and light, but act in ways that have zip-a-dee-doo-da with those words. You may preach about forgiveness but are being stubborn as all fk about a past situation. This is being out of alignment and chips away at being authentic.

Living true to your word (and you ain't going to get it perfect every time) is one way you can begin the journey towards being authentic, or sharpen yourself up if you're already on that journey.

Listen to today's episode for a coaching process I share to help you out.
