Emergency SUPERMAN Trailer Podcast May 14, 2025

Show notes

Breaking news: trailers for Superman and Ironheart have been released. We talk about 'em. What else do you need to know?

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED: "The Doomsday Sanction" May 12, 2025

Show notes

We got a few weeks before Ironheart starts up so we're dipping over to the DC Universe to check out Justice League Unlimited. We'll be covering "The Cadmus Saga," starting with this episode where Batman harasses Amanda Waller. Also: why is Ice just hanging out when a volcano is erupting? Is that guy Dirk the Daring from Dragon's Lair (and do I call it Dragon Quest on the show?)? Derek gets deep on lore and we wonder why Doomsday can't break out of some hardened magma.

We will return next week with the next chapter: "Task Force X"!

The First Appearance of The Thunderbolts Apr 28, 2025

Show notes

With the next MCU movie about to hit theaters we thought it would be a good time to read the first appearance of the team that is coming to the screen, The Thunderbolts. Or rather the team that is not coming to the screen, since the original T-Bolts have just about nothing to do with the characters in Thunderbolts*. That's okay, because the buzz on that movie is good, and we'll always have the OG group.

They made their first appearance smack dab in the middle of a Hulk storyline, and knowing the big reveal of Thunderbolts #1 - this team is not a bunch of superheroes but rather the Masters of Evil in disguise and running a long con - it's shocking how obvious the truth is when looking back at this comic. These guys seem like obvious villains! But everybody was fooled.

Before that we have some news, and you get a chance to hear me get the name of every comic creator I talk about wrong. Like, totally wrong, I keep wanting to credit Mark Waid with everything ever written. It's a mess, and thankfully Derek knows his stuff and can correct me.

There will be no Marvelvision next week! We're taking the week off because we will have two episodes of The Bad Batch and a new Marvelvision that week, and we just don't have the energy or time to do four shows. What will we do when we come back? We're going to be watching the Cadmus Arc from Justice League Unlimited. Where do we start? I'll let Derek figure that out - I'll send out a little post about it in the days ahead.

Thanks for listening! See you next time.

DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN: "Straight To Hell" Apr 21, 2025

Show notes

The first season of Born Again comes to a close - does the finale work? Considering we are Netflix Daredevil haters turned Disney+ Daredevil lovers will we be satisfied with how things are wrapped up? And did Jon Bernthal come back to the show only after a change was made that kinda ruins the Punisher? All of this and more is discussed on the show.

Before that we talk yet again about the unsmiling Superman, we discuss an eternally underrated X book and we reminisce about getting mugged in New York City back in the day.

Next week: We'll be reading the first appearance of the Thunderbolts in Incredible Hulk Vol 2 #449. And coming soon: our Watch Men episode about the next MCU film, Thunderbolts*!

DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN: "Isle of Joy" Apr 14, 2025

Show notes

Matt's kind of a jerk this week, but he also does a big heroism so maybe the scales balance. Should he tell Heather his secret? Could you really kill a dude by spitting a tooth at his eye? This week's episode goes all Creepshow in a very fun way.

Before that: some movie talk, the experience of seeing the Fantastic Four trailer and the Superman extended scene back to back on the big screen and audience questions I can barely answer.

Next week: the season finale!

DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN: "Art For Art's Sake" Apr 07, 2025

Show notes

The Muse storyline comes to a big end this week in an episode that feels like it's got a couple of weird logic gaps. Still, we're really enjoying this show, a total shocker to us. Of course the last few weeks have all been using the OG version of the season, before major reshoots - next week begins the two episodes that are completely new. Will it still be for us?

Before that: why release an extended sequence where Superman is all beat up the whole time? Is A Minecraft Movie saving cinema as we know it? And will Robert Downey Jr's Doctor Doom get-up look as crummy as the image on his birthday party invitation?

Thanks for listening! See you next week.

DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN Episodes 5 & 6 Mar 31, 2025

Show notes

This week we have a bottle episode where Matt gets tangled up in a bank robbery hostage situation and we get the episode where Daredevil finally returns. Was it worth the wait? Will we ever see Matt having dinner with the Khans? And does Muse have powers or what?

Before that: gym influencer Joey Swoll! Will Doomsday end with a white screen, a la Crisis on Infinite Earths? Will Spider-Man ever grow up? And who is the villain anyway? The Kelce Brothers of movie podcasting answer all these and more!

Thanks for listening.

Emergency Podcast: DOOMSDAY Casting Reveal Mar 26, 2025

Show notes

We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming for this news bulletin:

Today Marvel held a very strange (and very successful) event to announce the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, which is shooting right now. There are a bunch of names you might expect and there are a few left field characters showing up, but maybe the most intriguing aspect is who is not going to be in this movie. We discuss it all!

Plus, we kind of get distracted by talking about The Studio, the new Seth Rogen show on AppleTV+.

DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN: "Sic Semper Systema" Mar 24, 2025

Show notes

Frank's back, folks. And he's the maintenance man. This week on Daredevil still no costumes but the drama and character stuff is simply terrific, plus we get two renditions of a Jefferson Starship classic.

Before that we have some news, including the rumor that Kevin Feige is feeling iffy on the Russos after Electric State and that the fourth Spidey movie may be adapting Spider Island, a storyline where everybody in New York City gets Spider-Man powers. Is that a good idea? Eh.

We just published the latest episode of Watch Men, where we talk about the Josh Trank Fantastic Four. It's available only for subscribers at the $5 and above levels at the Patreon. What are you waiting for?

See you next week!

DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN: "In the Hollow of His Hand" Mar 17, 2025

Show notes

Will Secret Wars have the Hulk holding up a mountain? Should you film elder abuse and not do anything about it? And could there be a multiversal Mary Jane in Spider-Man 4? We discuss all of this and more before diving into this week's Daredevil Born Again.

Which, for the record, we liked! It's an all-trial episode as Matt Murdock tries to keep White Tiger out of the clink, but courtroom shenanigans make a mess of everything, and that's before Matt does something to really make the judge angry.

Thanks for listening, see you next week!
