CREATURE COMMANDOS: "Iron Pot" Dec 30, 2024

Show notes

It's the best episode yet as Frankenstein takes center stage. And this episode of MarvelVision is certain to be the only podcast you hear this week where the conversation ranges from the origins of some racial slurs to the nature of evil with stops along the way to discuss robot vacuums, the global reaction to The Wizard of Oz and whether it's sad when an old person dies.
In the intro we talk about the third season of What If...? and kind of skim through the episodes, as well as talk about the latest comic book movie news. If you don't care about that, skip to 1:10. Yes, one hour and ten minutes. This one's lengthy.
We shall return next week with the next episode of Creature Commandos and the final episode of What If...?. Thanks for listening!

CREATURE COMMANDOS: "Chasing Squirrels" Dec 23, 2024

Show notes

This week we get a flashback to Weasel's supposed crime that landed him in Belle Reve. But is Weasel even capable of understanding that he's in prison? And does everybody need to be a misunderstood monster? Also, we somehow get into a discussion about who won WWII.
Before that there's news, including some good Superman news and some possibly troubling rumblings about that same movie. Also: lots of rumors! Are any of them true? If the ones about Spider-Man 4 are all true that is going to be one wild movie. Also: a little bit about the new season of What If...? Don't care about this? Skip to 38:32.
Thanks for listening! See you next week for the next Creature Commandos and discussion of the final season of What If...?.

Emergency Podcast: SUPERMAN Trailer! Dec 19, 2024

Show notes

This morning James Gunn dropped the first teaser trailer for his Superman reboot on us, and we knew we needed to get on the mic and blather on with our impressions, insights and opinions. And so here that is, a quick episode devoted entirely to this trailer which - spoiler! - we both quite like!
See you next week at the usual time.

CREATURE COMMANDOS: "Cheers to the Tin Man" Dec 17, 2024

Show notes

It's Nazi killing time on Creature Commandos as we get GI Robot's origin story. But am I being too nitpicky with this show? And if so is it because of bias or because I expect something more from James Gunn?
Also: some news! Perhaps too much discussion of Better Call Saul! And some tough trivia. If you don't care about any of that skip to 28:35.
If you want to hear more of us talking comic book stuff, check out the latest episode of Watch Men, where we go in on the latest Sony superhero disaster, Kraven the Hunter. Available only to subscribers at the $5 or above level on the Patreon!

CREATURE COMMANDOS: Episodes 1&2 Dec 09, 2024

Show notes

It's our first look at the new DCU, spearheaded by James Gunn. Is the view good or are we a bit concerned about what we're looking at? You'll have to listen to find out as we break down the first two episodes of this very adult-oriented cartoon that may be a remake of Suicide Squad (the first one).
Before that: where in the world should Devin go? When is the Superman trailer coming? And did Marvel just abandon a bunch of film equipment in a cave? All that and more, but if you don't care about it, jump right to 34:08.
Next week: more Creature Commandos. And coming soon: Kraven the Hunter, only on Watch Men. Join the Patreon at the $5 level to hear us dissect the latest Sony Spiderverse picture!
Thanks for listening.

FANTASTIC FOUR #13: First Appearance of The Watcher Dec 02, 2024

Show notes

Why is my chair so squeaky? Is Derek burping? The only person who might know is The Watcher, who is introduced in this issue of Fantastic Four. A truly jam-packed bit of storytelling, this issue has dead cities on the Moon, a commie villain, a trio of super-apes, the winning of the space race and more. It's the kind of comic book fun that could only happen in the 60s.
In the intro we chat a bit about robot vacuums and a mysterious picture of a pixelated man at the Fantastic Four wrap party. Plus: James Gunn answers a question about the Superman trailer. And I introduce Derek to the world of the Costco Guys. If you don't care about that, skip to 32:49.
Next week: we start watching Creature Commandos, the first glimpse at the new DCU! Join us, won't you?

BATMAN #1: First Appearance of Catwoman Nov 25, 2024

Show notes

When does a criminal deserve leniancy? When they're very hot and have nice legs, according to Batman. Here's the first appearance of Catwoman, and it's a doozy. From Batman speaking directly to the kids at home to his immortal words "Be quiet or papa spank," this one has it all.
Before that, some news, including a rumor about The Young Avengers becoming The Champions. Plus: the grisly origin of Wizard of Oz's Tin Man - and this is canonical.
Next week: the first appearance of The Watcher in Fantastic Four #13. See you then!

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #15: "Kraven the Hunter!" Nov 18, 2024

Show notes

This week we take a look at the first appearance of the next superstar of the silver screen, Kraven the Hunter. In his first appearance he fights apes, drinks a mysterious smoking brew and goes cruising in Central Park. Also: Peter Parker's love life is a mess, and we couldn't be happier about it.
Before that we talk about a whole bunch of TV shows, including Rings of Power and Dune: Prophecy. There's news, and we welcome the new king scooper, Denzel Washington himself. Plus: trivia. If you don't care about any of this, skip right to 42:30.
As we wait for Creature Commandos to start we shall keep reading comics, so join us next week as we read the first appearance of Catwoman, Batman #1. Thanks for listening!

THE PENGUIN: "A Great or Little Thing" Nov 12, 2024

Show notes

It's the finale of The Penguin and good news: everybody ends up happy! Whew, I was worried for a minute there. Well okay, maybe that doesn't happen but wow was this a good final episode. We loved it.
Before we get to The Penguin we have some news, including James Gunn personally humiliating me, new MCU trailers out of Brazil, and we discuss the ins and outs of Bluesky, the social network folks are fleeing to now that Twitter has gone full evil. If you don't care about any of that skip to 42:24.
Next week: now that The Penguin is over we have some time until What If...? begins. We're going to fill at least some of that time with a return to reading comics, so join us next episode when we read Amazing Spider-Man #15, the first appearance of Kraven the Hunter.
Thanks for listening!

THE PENGUIN: "Top Hat" Nov 05, 2024

Show notes

It's the penultimate episode of The Penguin, and things get explosive. Plus, we take a look back at Oz's childhood and hoo boy do things get dark. Real, real dark. This show is not afraid to make this guy a true villain. Speaking of which, Sofia seemingly graduates to real supervillain status this episode, and we couldn't be happier.
We recorded this episode on Election Day eve, so we have a little bit to say about that, but there's also a scoop that I drop about something coming up in Matt Reeves' "Batman Epic Crime Saga." You don't want to miss that, but if you do want to miss that, skip right to 32:46.
Thanks for listening and see you next week for the finale!
