AGATHA ALL ALONG: “Through Many Miles of Tricks and Trials” Sep 26, 2024

Show notes

Good news everyone - Marvel listened to Derek's complaints last week and over the past seven days totally fixed Agatha All Along to his liking. This week's episode is clever, spooky, fun, and best of all, episodic. There's a whole story in here!
Before that: news! Including who is playing Hal Jordan, what Marvel movie Jordan Peele might direct and the tuna fish sandwich I had for lunch. If none of this appeals, please skip right to 38:36 to get into the recap/review.
In a couple of days: The Penguin episode 2. We're giving you so many podcasts this month! Please show your appreciation by rating and reviewing us on your favorite podcast app. It helps a lot!

THE PENGUIN: "After Hours" Sep 23, 2024

Show notes

So, heads up: we had some technical difficulty with this episode. This required a lot of stitching things together, which I'm not exactly the best at, and as a result you may find the episode to have a certain delightfully herky jerky feel to it.
We begin our coverage of The Penguin, the spin-off from The Batman, and boy oh boy do we like this one. A bunch. A mob show set in the Gotham of Matt Reeve's Batman, this is a grounded and gritty take that actually works.
Because we released an episode just a couple of days ago we don't have much news this time, so if you don't want to hear us talk about Ronald Reagan go to 15:08.
Thanks for listening! We'll be back in a couple of days with the next episode of Agatha All Along and then again next week with episode two of The Penguin.

AGATHA ALL ALONG Episodes 1&2 Sep 20, 2024

Show notes

It's a fight! This week we throw down over Agatha All Along, the latest MCU show on Disney+. A spin-off of Wandavision, this show forces us to ponder just what an episode is, and also gives us a very good song. But like I said, there's a tussle in there.
Before that we have a little bit of news, the ants are back, and a trivia question stumps both your hosts. Don't care about that? Jump right to 25:13.
We'll be back before you know it - Marvelvision is going twice a week as we cover both Agatha All Along and The Penguin on Max. Expect our next episode on Monday as we talk about the first episode of the Colin Farrell-starring spinoff from The Batman.
Until then: thanks for listening!

FANTASTIC FOUR #94: First Appearance of Agatha Harkness Sep 16, 2024

Show notes

This week we're diving back into the first appearance of Agatha Harkness, whose new show Agatha All Along debuts on Disney+ in the coming days. We'll be covering that show, so it made sense to look back at where it all started.
And it started kinda weird! This comic is at the end of the historic Lee/Kirby run, and it's a light and odd story that finds The Thing in full Lou Costello mode.
In the intro: we have a bit of news, including the Venom 3 trailer. If you don't care about that stuff skip right to 30:24 for the comic review!
Heads up: we will be covering both Agatha All Along and The Penguin, which means this show will be coming out twice a week for the next month or so. Don't ever say we never gave you anything.
Thanks for listening!

DETECTIVE COMICS #58: First Appearance of The Penguin Sep 09, 2024

Show notes

This week and next we prepare for September's new comic book shows, The Penguin and Agatha All Along. Up first: the first appearance of The Penguin in an early Batman adventure that shows just how much Bats was not a grim avenger of the night for very long at all. That starts at 1:02. Yes, one hour and two minutes.
But if you skip to there you'll miss all the news that hit this weekend, including a bunch of rumors, the question of whether we need anymore Falcone in Batman stuff after The Penguin and me discussing how I personally, and with my own power, destroyed the Zack Snyder DCEU. Exciting stuff.
Next week: Fantastic Four #94, the first appearance of Agatha Harkness!
Thanks for listening!

BATMAN: THE CAPED CRUSADER Episodes 9&10 Sep 01, 2024

Show notes

We wrap up the first season of Caped Crusader with a Two-Face two-parter, and it's a doozy. Stick around until the very end to hear us talk about where this show stacks up in the history of adapted Batmen and our relationships with Batman adaptations over the years.

Before that: Derek goes to a concert! The Thing is seen on the set of Fantastic Four! This week's trivia is really, really hard. Interested in the Superman piece I recollect fondly in this episode? Read it right here.

If you don't care about any of that stuff skip right to 40:00 to get to the meat of the episode. This week's music is Two Faces Have I by Lou Christy.

Next week: we will read the Penguin's first appearance in Detective Comics #58 as we prepare for the upcoming Penguin TV show.

Thanks for listening!

BATMAN: THE CAPED CRUSADER Episodes 7&8 Aug 27, 2024

Show notes

We're back from our trip, which means it's back to Gotham as we get to the penultimate episode of our series on the newest Batman cartoon, Batman: The Caped Crusader. This one gives us an LA Confidential-tinged cop story and a vampire tale filled with special guest stars who go unremarked upon in the show. Sneaky!
We don't have as much intro this week as usual, but our theme song is by Todd Rundgren.
Thanks for listening!

A Very Special Road Trip Episode Aug 25, 2024

Show notes

This week the Faraci boys did something we rarely do - we got together! We took a family road trip to visit the home of Jerry Siegel, where Superman was created. And we went with our father and our sister. This episode was recorded by a single mic on the dining room table of a rented AirBnB, and our father Joe joins (Ariel declined). This one is all-intro, no meat, but the real ones have been waiting to hear from Joe!
We'll be back soon with our regularly scheduled program. Thanks for listening!

BATMAN: THE CAPED CRUSADER Episodes 5 & 6 Aug 21, 2024

Show notes

On this week's Batman: The Caped Crusader episodes we get the introduction of a classic Batvillain. That's right, King Tut! Also, Harley Quinn and a Scooby Doo episode that blows open the boundaries of what this show can be.
Before that we have some news and chat, including information about why upcoming episodes of our podcasts will be delayed (like this one was) and why you might see a special episode in your feeds in the days ahead.

BATMAN: THE CAPED CRUSADER Episodes 3&4 Aug 12, 2024

Show notes

Have you heard there's a new Batman cartoon and it's about crime, and also Jim Gordon's old beat is heavily featured? This will make a lot more sense after you listen to this episode of Marvelvision, where we talk about two more episodes of Batman: The Caped Crusader, specifically Kiss of the Catwoman and Night of the Hunters. Spoiler: we like 'em A LOT.
Before that, it's time to see what came out of D23. Is it weird that there's still no date announced for Ironheart? What did we think of the Agatha All Along trailer? All this and more revealed. If you don't care about that news, skip to 40:12.
Meanwhile, looks like our next episode of Watch Men will be The Rocketeer. Join our Patreon at the $5 or above level to get access to our episode talking about this underrated early modern superhero movie - does it hold up?
Next week: two more Batman: The Caped Crusader episodes. See you then!
