BATMAN: THE CAPED CRUSADER Episodes 1 & 2 Aug 05, 2024

Show notes

Amazon has dumped 10 episodes of the new Bruce Timm Batman cartoon all at once, but we're going to be taking these two by two over the next few weeks. Let's be upfront: your hosts were not very psyched about this show in advance and then we watched it and are forced to eat our words.
Not unlike how RFK Jr was trying to eat some bear. We don't mean to get political, but the news right before we recorded was so wild we had to talk about it. If you'd rather get straight to Gotham City, skip to 45:57.
If you're a Watch Men subscriber look for a new poll very soon! If not, why not? Come join at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha.

Breaking News Comic-Con Episode! Jul 27, 2024

Show notes

We said we were taking the week off, but that's only because we forgot San Diego Comic-Con was this weekend. And look at us now, convening to do an emergency podcast on a Saturday night because Marvel announced some fairly major stuff.
In this special episode we talk about Robert Downey Jr as Dr. Doom! The trailer for The Penguin! Creature Commandoes! Harrison Ford being grumpy! And more more more.
Next week: we'll begin covering Batman: The Caped Crusader.
We touch on Deadpool and Wolverine but if you want to hear us really talk about it, subscribe at the $5 or above level at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha. We'll have an episode about that out Monday or Tuesday!

THE BOYS: "Season 4 Finale" Jul 22, 2024

Show notes

This week we talk about the big big news that hit over the weekend. No, not Joe Biden - my Western shirts! Also: some small amounts of news and lots of speculation about the Hall of Justice.
As for The Boys: did season 4 stick the landing? Was there too much wheel spinning this season? And why, exactly, is everyone not dead at the end? We may find out the answer to that one... in like two years, when the show comes back for its final season.
Thanks for listening! We're taking next week off but we will let you know what our next show will be!

THE BOYS: "The Insider" Jul 15, 2024

Show notes

This week The Boys both delights and disappoints in ways that are very specifically on-brand for The Boys. It's weird that this show can be so good and so frustrating at the exact same time!
In the intro we talk about the latest comic book movie news, including a controversy surrounding Captain America: Brave New World that will likely lose us subscribers. Also: we react to the trailers for that film and Agatha All Along, and we don't agree!
If you don't care about any of that stuff skip right to 57:32.
Thanks for listening!

THE BOYS: "Dirty Business" Jul 08, 2024

Show notes

Holy whips and chains, Tek Knight! This week's episode of The Boys brings us into that universe's version of the Batcave, and it's as pervy as you might expect. But is the episode any good? That's the big question.
Also: some news, including whether or not Kevin Feige is playing favorites. If you don't care about that, skip to 33:57.
This week's music is the Velvet Underground.
Thanks for listening!

THE BOYS: "Beware of the Jabberwock, My Son" Jul 01, 2024

Show notes

You want Superman news? We got Superman news - tons of pics from the Cleveland set of James Gunn's Superman have hit the web, and we have thoughts on them! Also some other news from the world of comics and movies, including the reveal that Marvel intends on returning to Hall H at Comic-Con this year in a big way. What could they be bringing?
On The Boys we have three storylines that feel consequential in their own way, and we get Simon Pegg delivering a performance so good that I have to eat my words from last week where I was critiquing his previous accent work! The man knocks it out the park. Also, we discuss why Simon Pegg as a dad is so uniquely upsetting to us middle aged Gen Xers.
If you want to skip the news and get right to The Boys just go to 41:55. Consider supporting the show through a subscription at our Patreon! Go to www.patreon.com/cinemasangha and join now!
Thanks for listening!

Special Free Episode: THE ACOLYTE: "Night" Jun 27, 2024

Show notes

Here's a free listen to another one of our podcasts, The Bad Batch, where we talk Star Wars. This week's episode of The Acolyte was such a big deal that we thought folks who aren't normally subscribed might want to listen, and that maybe this would incentivize you to come join us at the Patreon! It's as simple as going to www.patreon.com/cinemasangha and subscribing for only $1 a month. A dollar!
Please be aware: we go heavy spoilers early so if you aren't watching The Acolyte but might some day, be careful!

THE BOYS: "Wisdom of the Ages" Jun 24, 2024

Show notes

It's dark this season on The Boys, and our heroes are cruising for a bruising. Especially Starlight, who is cruising to put a bruising on Firecracker. And Homelander goes to Carvel! That's can't be ominous, can it?
This week Derek is tired! There's Superman news (but we recorded before today's set pics appeared). And I don't do so well at trivia.

THE BOYS Season 4 Episodes 1. 2 & 3 Jun 17, 2024

Show notes

Welcome back to Marvelvision! As we wait for new Marvel stuff to make its way to us we are branching out a bit to cover season four of the hit Amazon Prime show The Boys. This show is based on a comic book that both of deeply dislike, but we have very much enjoyed the series to date, and the fourth season appears to continue a good - if slightly repetitive - streak.
The first three episodes are The Department of Dirty Tricks, Life Among the Septics and We'll Keep the Red Flag Flying Here, and they contain the expected mix of filthiness, ultraviolence and on-the-nose satire we have come to expect from the show.
But first we have to catch up with news in the world of comic book movies and TV shows, including the latest Superman casting and the continuing turmoil of Blade. If you prefer to get right to The Boys skip ahead to 38:53.
Come join us at the Patreon! There you can listen to our other shows, including a monthly superhero deep dive podcast, Watch Men. Also get access to our Discord! Come hang out!
Thanks for listening.

All By Myself: THE FALL GUY and CHALLENGERS May 31, 2024

Show notes

Derek is off on vacation this week so I took to the mic solo to talk about some movies I have seen recently. I go into The Fall Guy and Challengers, featuring some spoilers about Challengers, and along the way touch on Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Tangerine, among other stuff.
Derek is returning to the United States right now so we will be back with regularly scheduled programming soon; our next episode of any podcast will be for our Star Wars show, The Bad Batch, where we'll cover the two part season opener of The Acolyte. If you want to hear that you must be a member at the $1 or above level on our Patreon so hit www. patreon.com/cinemasangha!
Thanks for listening.
