AGATHA ALL ALONG Episodes 8&9 Nov 01, 2024

Show notes

It was Agatha all along after all. The show comes to an incredibly satisfying end, and lays groundwork for more yet to come in the MCU. This week Derek and I finally find a version of Aubrey Plaza that gets our motors humming, we discuss why Agatha ends up in the form she does, and argue about whether lemons were available in Massachussetts in 1750.
Before that: we are recording on Halloween! There's candy talk, Ozempic talk and then we get into Marvel's entire 2025 slate, especially the recently revealed shows that are coming to Disney+. Are there real Wonder Man fans? We think so!
If you don't care about that, skip right to 48:37.
Thanks for listening and we will see you in a few days for the next episode of The Penguin!

THE PENGUIN: "Gold Summit" Oct 29, 2024

Show notes

Oz is up against the wall when the Maronis and Gigantes put the kibosh on his Bliss business, but he's always at his best when he's up against the wall. And when he's at his best he's a lying, cheating, backstabbing villain - this show does not hide just how awful its protagonist is.
Before that: Zendaya is a goddess! James Gunn debunks more dumb rumors! And maybe the new trivia book we're using is a bit too hard. If you don't care about all of that skip right to 37:50 for the meat and the potatoes of the show.
Meanwhile: we have a podcast up for Venom: The Last Dance! You can get it by subscribing to the Patreon at the $5 or above level or, if you don't want to do that, you can buy just the episode for $4 ($6 if you're on iOS because Apple takes a cut). Simply go to www.patreon.com/cinemasangha/shop to purchase!
Thanks for listening and we will see you in a couple of days for the Agatha All Along finale.

AGATHA ALL ALONG: "Death's Hand in Mine" Oct 25, 2024

Show notes

It's a whopper of a Marvelvision as we go long on the excellent new episode of Agatha All Along. Is this the best Marvel TV episode? Is pre-trauma real? And has Derek ever had his tarot cards read? Find out!
Before that: Blade disappears from the release schedule! Tom Holland talks Spider-Man 4! And does Venom: The Last Dance set up a Sony/MCU crossover in that fourth Spidey film? Plus more news and impossibly hard trivia.
If you don't care about that skip to 52:38 to get to the recap/review.
See you in a couple of days for The Penguin! Thanks for listening.

THE PENGUIN: "Homecoming" Oct 22, 2024

Show notes

Can the show live up to last week's stellar episode? Hell yes, it turns out, as things get hotter and hotter for Oz (and some other folks as well). Homecoming is a packed episode where a ton of stuff happens and where the status quo changes in major, major ways, and we're here to break it all down. As part of that we ask questions like: does the Chief of Police think Sofia is the Hangman? Will Vic make it out of the show alive? And should The Penguin's villain lair be an abandoned cannery?
Before that we have some news, and also some chatting about the movies. We talk about American Movie, Terrifier, Smile and more, and we debate whether or not Lanterns being "grounded" is a good thing. We do not debate the Creature Commandoes trailer, though - neither one of us are fans. Don't care about that? Jump to 40:04.
See you next week, and also in a couple of days as we return for Agatha All Along!

AGATHA ALL ALONG: "Familiar By Thy Side" Oct 18, 2024

Show notes

It's the Teen backstory we've been waiting for, and even though we all knew who he was, it still lands! And we get to see his side of the interrogation from episode 1. Plus: did they sneak Hulkling into this episode?
Before that we have a bit of news, including new Fantastic Four images and Tom Holland saying the Spider-Man 4 script still needs work. What does that mean? And what does Tom put first - himself or Spider-Man?
If you don't care about that, skip to 28:41.
We shall return in a couple of days with The Penguin!

THE PENGUIN: "Cent'ann" Oct 15, 2024

Show notes

What if we got an episode of The Penguin and it had almost no Penguin in it and it was still one of the best episodes of the show so far? This week's installment has Sofia's backstory and really heightens the so-called grounded show to a level that is thrilling and fun.
Before that we have a little bit of news and Derek relays the story of his visit to the Winchester Mystery House. And when you get to the end of the episode... it's not the end! We ended up going on a couple of diversions just as we were trying to sign off. Heads up.
If you don't want the news and spooky Mystery House action, jump to 21:35. We will return in a couple of days with the next episode of Agatha All Along!

AGATHA ALL ALONG: "Darkest Hour, Wake Thy Power" Oct 11, 2024

Show notes

It's a big reveal this week as Teen's true identity becomes known - well, to anyone who reads Marvel Comics, I guess. But don't worry, because we break down just what that crown means and who he is, as well as talk about what did and did not work in this Ouija-tastic outing.
Before that we talk about some dumb life stuff, all the Lanterns news and whether we should be criticizing it already, and the wild flood of likely phony scoops we keep getting about Spider-Man 4. If you don't care about that stuff, skip right to 35:14.
Thanks for listening! We're back in a couple of days with The Penguin. In the meantime, consider joining the Patreon at the $5 or above level to listen to our Watch Men episode about Joker: Folie à Deux (click here) or spend just $4 to buy the episode individually (click here).

THE PENGUIN: "Bliss" Oct 08, 2024

Show notes

Have you been wanting to get to know Vic better? This episode is for you, as it explores Oz's sidekick's past, including where he was when The Riddler flooded Gotham City. Meanwhile, as always, Oz is thinking on his feet but he also seems to keep getting himself into deeper and deeper trouble. Is there a faction in Gotham City he won't piss off?
Before that we have news and updates, including Derek's adventure door knocking as a campaigner for democracy. Skip to 27:58 if you just want to get to The Penguin.
Over on Watch Men we went deep on Joker: Folie à Deux. We had a split decision on this one. Want to know where we each came down? Become a $5 or above subscriber at the Patreon or click here to buy the episode on its own for $4!
Thanks for listening. Agatha All Along is coming up!

AGATHA ALL ALONG: "If I Cannot Reach You Let My Song Teach You" Oct 03, 2024

Show notes

It's a 70s spectacular... but no coke. I guess that was Kevin Feige's hard rule, as per Deadpool and Wolverine. On Agatha All Along this week we have the next trial, and it includes rocking out and a cool demon. Plus: gay stuff!
Before that we learn that Derek has made a shocking decision, and we talk about the newly announced Dynamic Duo animated movie coming from DC. If that's of no interest to you, skip right to 32:54 and get to the episode recap and review!
Next week we will have our Joker: Folie a Deux review, available only to subscribers at the $5 or above level at the Patreon, which you can find right here. And then in November we're doing Venom: The Last Dance. Come join us!
Thanks for listening. See you in a few days for The Penguin.

THE PENGUIN: "Inside Man" Sep 30, 2024

Show notes

Oz has really stepped in it and this week things just keep getting more difficult. The Penguin keeps ramping up the complications in a way that reminds us of Breaking Bad, but thankfully not quite that nerve-wracking.
We talk about some news and some new movies, including The Apprentice and Megalopolis, and if you don't want to hear all that just skip right to 26:59.
Also: our Watch Men episode about Blade is up, and serves as an unexpected memorial to Kris Kristofferson. We recorded it right before he died, but we say such nice things about him that we feel pretty good about it. You can get that by subscribing to the Patreon at a $5 or above level or, if you don't want to subscribe, you can purchase this episode all on its own by clicking here.
