DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN Episodes 1 & 2 Mar 10, 2025

Show notes

The Man Without Fear is back, and we're covering the first two episodes of his new Disney+ show. Which, by the way, offers absolutely no information for folks who may have not watched the original Netflix Daredevil. Thankfully you have us, who half-remember some stuff from the first two seasons.

Speaking of us, this is a special episode - we're together in person! Derek flew to LA for the weekend and we took a road trip, but first we recorded this. That's why the sound is a bit off this week. Also, there are a couple of visual moments, and if you'd love to see them in action, simply head over to the Patreon or our YouTube channel .

Next week we'll have the next episode, for which I am hopeful, Derek less so. What do you think of the show so far? Come join our Discord - for Patreon subscribers only - and tell us!

YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN Episodes 7 & 8 Feb 23, 2025

Show notes

The first season of this alt-universe MCU Spidey show comes to a close with a huge surprising reveal about Spider-Man's origin, a visit from symbiotes and the Scorpion getting his face smashed in. The first act is over and the stage is set for season two, and we can't wait.

Before that: Grand Theft Hamlet, the V miniseries and a whole buncha news this week. And by the way, stick around at the end of the show because we go pretty far afield after the recap is over. Just letting you know!

We're off next week but we will return in two weeks with the first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again.

YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN Episodes 6, 7 & 8 Feb 17, 2025

Show notes

It gets real in this trio of episodes, as the traditionally kind of lame villain Scorpion proves a bit much for a young version of Spider-Man. When we say we gasped...

Also: Brave New World gets the worst MCU Cinemascore, they may have a Dick Ryder ready for the Nova show and there's cursing in a promo for Superman.

If you want to hear us talking about Captain America: Brave New World join the Patreon! Subscribers at the $5 and above levels get access to Watch Men, our monthly superhero deep dive podcast.

BTW: If you get to the part of the episode where we start talking about Max's The Pitt and you don't watch The Pitt... you can just turn it off. That's the end of the show but we do go a teeny bit long there.

See you next week for the conclusion of season one of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man!

YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN Episodes 3, 4 & 5 Feb 10, 2025

Show notes

They're tossing a whole bunch of Spidey at us each week, but at least the show is good! This new take on young Spider-Man is having a blast playing with Marvel Comics lore and using real bottom of the barrel villains like Speed Demon and Unicorn. But Doc Ock waits in the wings, so maybe Spidey will be facing a real threat soon.

Before that: the Super Bowl! There's a new Thunderbolts* trailer, but nothing for Superman. Does that show weakness on the part of WB or am I talking out my butt?

Next week: three more episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man!

Breaking News: FANTASTIC FOUR Trailer Feb 04, 2025

Show notes

We interrupt your week to bring you breaking news about the Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer and also Post Malone Oreos.

YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN Episodes 1&2 Feb 03, 2025

Show notes

It's a new show as Marvel debuts their latest Spider-Man cartoon, the one with the impossibly long name. It was originally going to be set in the MCU but they changed their mind, and now it's taking place in its own little continuity with plenty of nods to what came before but some major changes and big swings. But is it any good?

Before that: lots of news, including the fact that Harrison Ford will say the word "adamantium" in theaters in just two weeks, and also Derek talks about how much he loves and misses smoking. Not interested? Skip to 1:07:00.

Next week: three episodes of YFNSM. Yes, three. Also: I forgot we were gonna do Captain America #119 so maybe we'll catch up with that as well.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #118: More First Appearance of Falcon! Jan 27, 2025

Show notes

It turns out Falcon's first appearance in Captain America #117 left us hanging, so we're back this week with the next issue, where the Red Skull does the ultimate evil of telling a group of Cap stans to go eff themselves. Technically the story doesn't end here, so we will be talking about #119 in the intro to next week's episode!
Speaking of intros: Derek gets a new camera and is traumatized by the new Star Trek TV movie, I go long on The Love Boat (I was asked. Seriously!) and the showrunner of Daredevil: Born Again acknowledges that maybe the Netflix show was kind of dull as hell. Don't care about this? Skip to 53 minutes.
Next week: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episodes 1 and 2!

CAPTAIN AMERICA #117: First Appearance of The Falcon Jan 20, 2025

Show notes

Let's go back in time to when Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, first entered the Marvel Universe. You know him as a Harlem social worker, so of course Cap meets him... on an unnamed tropical island populated by WWII war criminals? You know how the comic books are.
Before that we have some news and another installment of listener mail. You want your questions answered? Simply email us at ask.cinema.sangha@gmail.com and put the name of the show you want your question to appear on in the subject line. Easy as that!
Don't miss out on our deep dive into 2020's Bloodshot, over on Watch Men. In February we'll be covering Captain America: Brave New World on that show, which is why we're hitting Sam's original origin this week. Next week we'll have part two of that origin in Captain America #118! Subscribe to Watch Men right now!

CREATURE COMMANDOS: "What A Funny Monster" Jan 13, 2025

Show notes

Our first look into the new DCU comes to a conclusion, but does it stick the landing? Can James Gunn bring it all together and make it work? And why doesn't Nina Mazursky get a lawyer anyway?
Before that we go wide ranging on the LA fires, the news (what little of it there is), the It's Always Sunny/Abbott Elementary crossover and we answer listener mail. Find out what our least favorite comic book retcons are! Don't care? Skip to 58:58.
As we wait for our next show, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, to begin, we will be reading some old comics. Come back next week to hear us discuss the first appearance of The Falcon in Captain America #117.
Thanks for listening!

CREATURE COMMANDOS: "Priyatel Skelat" Jan 06, 2025

Show notes

This episode sees a big change for us: we're also doing it on video! This audio version will remain forever, but you can also watch us if that's the kind of weird thing you're into. We're going to be uploading these to YouTube moving forward, and the videos will also be here on the Patreon.

In the meantime: this week we get the origin of Dr. Phosphorus and if you were worried he wouldn't turn out to have a tragic past, I have good news for you.

Also: Jason Momoa is Lobo, The Brave and the Bold is not delayed, and the final episode of What If...?. Thanks for listening, see you next week.
