The First Appearance of Franklin Richards! Jul 17, 2025

Show notes

It's a boy! In Fantastic Four Annual #6 Franklin Richards, the son of Reed and Sue, is born. We're reading this comic this week because Franklin's gonna be showing up in this month's Fantastic Four: First Steps, but I hope his role is bigger than what we get in this annual. One thing this annual does give us is the first appearance of Annihilus, great Jack Kirby art and a plethora of old comic book ads.

Before that: listeners keep trying to get Derek to talk about the Snyderverse, I see Superman for a second time, and what can the new Supergirl poster tell us about next year's DCU entry? All this and more, but if you don't care just skip to 43:03.

Want to hear us talk about Fantastic Four: First Steps when it comes out? Want to hear our three and a half hour conversation about Superman? Simply go to the Patreon and become a $5 or above member and you'll get our monthly superhero deep dive podcast, Watch Men!

Next week: the first appearances of the Silver Surfer and Galactus! We're reading Fantastic Four #49-50. See you then!

The First Appearance of Krypto! Jul 10, 2025

Show notes

In the upcoming movie Superman Krypto the Superdog is a very naughty boy indeed, and it turns out that's quite canonical, dating all the way back to his first appearance in Adventure Comics #210. Also in this issue: a story where Aquaman has to use sea creatures as a printing press.

Before that: I may have discovered a loophole for superheroes' no killing policy, we discuss whether there's too much James Gunn and Derek has already seen Superman but is keeping his lips sealed until the next episode of Watch Men. Which you can get if you're a $5 or above member at the Patreon!

Next week: the birth of Franklin Richards in Fantastic Four Annual 6!

IRONHEART: Episodes 4, 5 & 6 Jul 02, 2025

Show notes

What about that ending? We definitely argue about it for quite some time. A lot happens in these episodes, and new doors are opened in the MCU... but will anyone ever walk through them? Is it better to hope or to expect the worst? And does it take longer between sequels these days?

Before that we have some news and we answer your questions, which leads us to wonder: what is a comic book crossover? Is it only between individual books? Does an overarching event with tie-ins count? And what's the worst one anyway? If you don't care about this skip right to 47:43.

Next week: the first appearance of Krypto! Adventure Comics #210, which is available on the DC app but be warned: simply searching for the title won't serve it up to you. You have to search for the exact issue number.

See you then!

IRONHEART: Episodes 1, 2 & 3 Jun 25, 2025

Show notes

Spinning off from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and based on the comic character of the same name, Ironheart has sat on the shelf for some time. But why? Is it bad? Is it surprisingly good? Is it aggressively fine? The answer lies within this episode.

Before that: The Thing has a beard in the Fantastic Four movie, we answer your questions and I step on Derek's intro for the first time ever.

Next week it's the back half of Ironheart, which should up the supernatural element in big ways. Will the show stick the landing better than Riri does in the opening of the premiere episode? Find out with us!

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED: "Epilogue" Jun 22, 2025

Show notes

And so the Cadmus arc comes to an end... but is it with a bang or a whimper? It's certainly an undeniably odd episode, and your mileage may vary. One thing I'll say for this one: it lets us know that Bruce Wayne leaves his DNA all over town.

Before that we have some news and a letter that claims Derek sounds like Robert Downey Jr. What do you think about that? Let us know.

Next week: the first three episodes of Ironheart. See you then!

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED: "Divided We Fall" Jun 16, 2025

Show notes

The finale of the Cadmus Saga is upon us as the original seven of the Justice League take on the combined Luthor/Brainiac creature. Will they be able to save the world? Will they remember they have superpowers in time? This is the episode that almost has the guts to kill off The Flash.

Before that: your hosts did a little protesting this weekend. Plus: I get cranky about film journalists, Derek loves a H.E.R.B.I.E ad and James Gunn says stuff. And your questions get answered! If you don't care about that stuff skip to 43:47!

Next week: our last Justice League Unlimited episode for now, as we watch the Epilogue! After that it's Ironheart! Thanks for listening.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED: "Panic in the Sky" Jun 11, 2025

Show notes

The Cadmus saga continues on as the Evil Superfriends attack the JLA Watchtower and Batman refuses to turn himself in to the authorities. Supergirl's clone has daddy issues, Steel gets his butt whupped and Bwana Beast runs by in the background. All of this leads to a big reveal of who the true villain of the story is.

Before that, I leave stuff behind in the desert, Derek finishes us Cobra Kai while I watch Karate Kid Part II, and our questions segment gives us a chance to talk about MIssion: Impossible: The Final Reckoning. All this and more in the intro, but if you don't care about it simply skip to 42:57 to get to the meat of the episode.

Remember, if you want your question answered on the show, send an email to ask.cinema.sangha@gmail.com. Put the name of which show on which you want your letter read in the subject line!

Thanks for listening, see you next week for Divided We Fall.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED: "Flashpoint" Jun 02, 2025

Show notes

Jeez, Superman's a real jerk in these episodes, and his behavior is not getting any better. Picking up from where last week left off, this ep sees the Justice League Watchtower shooting a huge fusion beam at... an American city? Seems bad, even if J'onn J'onnz insists "It wasn't me."

Before that we go long, and I mean long, on Cobra Kai. Again. I'm almost done binging the show so I promise this won't go on forever. There's some news and then we take our sweet time with the questions this week. Tangents abound, and Derek roasts me good. If you don't care about any of this skip to 1:13:42. I said we went long!

Next week: Panic in the Sky. The evil plan against the JLU is picking up steam, can Luthor and his gang of random villains break the Justice League?

Thanks for listening!

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED: "Question Authority" May 26, 2025

Show notes

This week the seemingly sometimes smelly Question gets himself into hot water when he decides to kill Lex Luthor. Also, he's sleeping with Huntress? What the...? Also: Superman is a jerk! And Aztek the Ultimate Man makes a cameo! Plus I give the wrong sign-off!

Before that: we have some sad news about the loss of a comic book legend. The next two Avengers get delayed. And we answer questions, one of which leads to like a 20 minute tangent. If you don't care about this stuff, you can skip right to 58:23.

Next week: Justice League Unlimited, Flashpoint.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED: "Task Force X" May 19, 2025

Show notes

This week the Suicide Squad, err sorry, Task Force X as this is a cartoon, breaks into the Justice League's Watchtower Satellite and do battle with a real collection of Morts (we explain that reference on the show). How does this tie into the Cadmus Saga? And can you just tear the Martian Manhunter in half???

Before that: letters! News! Rumors! And Derek makes the argument that casting news is... a spoiler? Don't ask me, I just work here. If you don't care about any of this stuff skip to 57:32.

Next week: Justice League Unlimited season 2, episode 9, Question Authority!
