    Woven

A chef and a theologian step up to the microphone and out flows the Woven podcast. As a former professional chef currently striving to mother as a verb, Rebecca Cochran sees life and faith through the lens of food and community. Rebecca Peet is a theologian, writer and speaker who believes intimacy with Jesus is the cure for what ails you and sees biblical knowledge as not only approachable but essential for the everywoman. With humor and vulnerability, Woven seeks to encourage women to live balanced lives right where they are- in the arms of Jesus.

To conclude our series on body image, we invited Amber Salhus from the Mom Wants More Podcast on to help us wrap up our discussion. Amber, along with being a writer and podcaster, is an online wellness coach. We discuss all three of our own journeys with body image as well as the "what next" of this conversation. The ultimate goal of this whole discussion is for us to learn how to experience freedom in this area, and move towards seeing our bodies as our ally and not our adversary. Continuing in our January Body Image series, we have the special privilege of talking to Dr. Angela Schaffner for the 7th time on Woven. She's on this week to discuss body image from a Biblical perspective, and we also dive into what it means to have a balanced view of our bodies. We also talk about how to recalibrate once we've veered into unhealthy body image territory. We are so thankful Angela continues to join us and share her breadth of knowledge on this and many other subjects.

Happy New Year! We're spending our first four episodes of 2020 on a very popular and requested topic from our listeners- body image. Ever wondered how bathroom scales got in your bathroom? Or who invented the BMI chart? Rebecca Scritchfield, RDN joins us to shed light on the topics of diet culture, our bodies, raising kids who don't pick themselves apart in front of a mirror, and learning to be nice to ourselves and pursue health in a realistic and, well, healthy way. The interview was so dense and rich that we've split it up into two episodes. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do, and big thanks to Rebecca for bringing your wisdom and passion to Woven! (that's 3 Rebeccas if you're counting, ha ha.) About Rebecca Scritchfield: Rebecca is a well-being coach, registered dietitian nutritionist, ACSM certified exercise physiologist, and author of the book, Body Kindness: Transform your health from the inside out and never say diet again (Workman Publishing), which Publisher's Weekly calls "a rousing guide to better health" and The New York Times Book Review calls "simple and true". Through her weight-inclusive Body Kindness counseling practice, Rebecca helps people reject diets and body shame to create a better life with workable, interesting self-care goals to fit individual's needs and preferences, not society's unrealistic weight and beauty standards. Rebecca has influenced millions through her writing, podcast, workshops, and appearances in over 100 media outlets including NBC Nightly News, CNN, the TODAY show, O Magazine, Real Simple, Time, and many others. Rebecca is a freelance writer for The Washington Post and Self magazine, an advisor to Health Magazine (2019) and Diversify Dietetics, and a mom of two young girls. She lives in Washington, D.C., where she was recognized as one of ten "Supermom" entrepreneurs in the Nation's Capital. Called by Name (Advent #5) Dec 17, 2019
    Show notes

This week we wrap-up (no pun intended) our Advent series. What a joy it's been to dig deeper into the meanings of a few of the names Jesus is called in scripture! For our last episode in this series, we discuss the names Lion and Lamb. While these names seem to be contradictory, we discuss how they both work in tandem to give us a fuller picture of Jesus' true nature. We've invited Kris McDaniel (Lead Pastor at Trinity Anglican Mission) as our guest again to help us explore these names. Kris not only loves the Word and Jesus, he also has a deep appreciation for the works of C.S. Lewis who used the theme of Jesus as a lion king throughout many of his novels. Kris drops some major truth bombs this week, and we are grateful for his time and thoughts.

That's it for us this Advent season, but we can't wait to be back in January ready to dive into some great topics. Until then, go catch up on past episodes, follow us on social media and check out our community over on Patreon- www.patreon.com/woveninhim.

Continuing in our Advent series on the different names Jesus was called in Scripture, this week we discuss the dichotomy between two of Jesus' names- Son of God and Son of Man. What does it mean that Jesus is both God and man, both divine and human? Also, what does this mean to us, right now, as Christians in the 21st century? It's a hard topic, but a great one to meditate on this Advent season.

BONUS EPISODE...All the Other Stuff (Christmas Edition) Dec 03, 2019
    Show notes

This week, we are taking a little break in our Advent series, to talk about "all the other stuff" related to the holidays other than the real "reason for the season". You know- food, decorating, cards, parties, etc, etc, etc. We discuss what it means to hold on to the items on your holiday to-do list that bring you joy and letting go of the things that don't, even if it seems those things are expected of you. We had a lot of fun, and we hope it's a fun listen.

This week we discuss the significance of Jesus being called the names Bread of Life and Chief Cornerstone. To help us with our discussion on bread and it's significance historically and spiritually, we invited Leah Lonsbury from Just Bakery to be with us. We talk about why it's significant that Jesus called himself the Bread of Life, and how bread was (and still is in many parts of the world) the cornerstone or foundation of their diets in the ancient times. That context provides us insight in to why Jesus as the Bread of Life is so meaningful for our walk with him.

    About Just Bakery:

Just Bakery of Atlanta is a non-profit that partners with our refugee neighbors on paid job training, professional certification, and a living wage. We bake with local and sustainable ingredients whenever possible and aim to build a more diverse, compassionate, and connected community for all.

Just Bakery was founded to be a creative and viable option for next steps in the long-term resettlement process by providing opportunities for our partners to build economic security as they recreate home in the Atlanta area.

Continuing in our Advent series on the different names of Jesus, we discuss what it means that Jesus is called Wonderful Counselor and Advocate. To help us, we invited Dr. Angela Schaffner to join us. Angela is a counselor and an advocate in "real life", and we cover not only what it means that Jesus is called our Wonderful Counselor and Advocate, but how we can also be like Jesus in those areas for others.

Angela is a psychologist, a speaker and an author. You can find her at www.angeladschaffner.com. You can also find her book Revealed: What the Bible Can Teach You About Yourself, wherever books are sold.

In these weeks leading up to Advent and Christmas, we hope to spend some time discussing the person and work of Jesus through the many names he's called in the Bible. We've all heard him called these names, but what do his names mean, what do they reveal to us about his character, and how do they play into our living, breathing relationship with him and others?

This week we discuss why we wanted to do this series for Advent, the importance of names and the words we speak, and we dive into what it means that Jesus is called The Word and The Truth.
