    Woven

A chef and a theologian step up to the microphone and out flows the Woven podcast. As a former professional chef currently striving to mother as a verb, Rebecca Cochran sees life and faith through the lens of food and community. Rebecca Peet is a theologian, writer and speaker who believes intimacy with Jesus is the cure for what ails you and sees biblical knowledge as not only approachable but essential for the everywoman. With humor and vulnerability, Woven seeks to encourage women to live balanced lives right where they are- in the arms of Jesus.

    Lent 2020: Numbing Out Mar 31, 2020
    Show notes

This week we wrap up our Lent series with a discussion of the idols we've created in our lives that help us numb out and distract us from reality. As we said last week, these episodes were recorded before social distancing became a thing, and we recognize that we're all in need of grace right now as we navigate our new realities. We are all numbing out in various ways, and that is OKAY. But, we also think this discussion is still relevant in many ways as we grapple with this new way of life. We hope it still challenges and encourages you. Also, EASTER IS COMING!!!

    Lent 2020: Gold Stars Mar 24, 2020
    Show notes

We are continuing in our Lent study this week. We recorded these episodes before Covid-19 really took root in the US, and we know most of us have probably suspended our Lenten fasts during this time, but we also believe that in times like these, we truly learn the idols our hearts are attached to and how we need God even more as they are revealed. This week we address the idols of career, success and accomplishments. We hope you still enjoy and get something out of our discussion. We love you all and are praying for you.

Fun Spring Episode Mar 17, 2020
    Show notes

We've decided, given the state of the world right now, we should probably take a break from our heavier Lent episodes, and release a fun rambling of our favorite things about Spring. We did record this episode before the COVID-19 situation really hit the fan, so we don't really address it directly and make a few jokes, but we truly believe that even though this is a serious time, we also could all use moments of levity in our days. We at Woven are praying for all of you and your families during this unprecedented time. Stay safe and healthy!

    Lent 2020: American Idols Mar 10, 2020
    Show notes

Continuing in our Lent series on idols, we explore 3 American idols- marriage/romance, parenting and politics. We know those aren't the only idols we struggle with as a culture, but we know they can be some of the biggies. We also know these can be subtle idols. On the surface, none of them are bad or sinful, but when they take the place of God as our object of worship or control, that's when they can cross into unhealthy territory. Thankfully, God's grace is abundant as we struggle to put these idols in their proper place.

    Lent 2020: The Big 3 Mar 03, 2020
    Show notes

This week, continuing in our Lent series, we discuss the top 3 most obvious sins and idols that show up in our lives- Sex, Money and Power. We honestly talk about some of our own struggles with these idols and dig deeper into the motivations under the surface of our worship of them. Most of what we discuss this week comes from our study of Tim Keller's book, Counterfeit Gods. We also discuss Seculosity (and will be referencing it more over the next few weeks) by David Zahl.

Live in the Atlanta area? Want to attend a Live Recording of Woven? We are having a party and Woven Live Recording on Thursday, April 30th at 6:00pm to celebrate our 100th episode! Mark your calendars and look for more details to come!

Lent 2020: Introduction (An Interview with Erin Moon) Feb 25, 2020
    Show notes

The 2020 Lenten season begins this week. Throughout this season on Woven, we will explore the topic of sin and idols (with a couple more light-hearted episodes thrown in). To help us kick-off this discussion, we've invited Erin Moon on to join us. If anyone can have fun while talking Lent, sin and idols, it's Erin. In this episode, we discuss the purpose of Lent, the meaning of sin and why it's important to identify the idols in our life as we approach the cross and the resurrection over the next 40 days.

Erin Moon is a self-described Swiss Army knife- she does all the things. She is a Bible study and devotional writer and editor. She also runs operations for the Popcast Media Group, and serves as the Resident Bible Scholar on The Bible Binge. She is also a wife and a mom living in Alabama. To find her on the internet, visit her website, or connect with her on Instagram @erinhmoon.

Friendship: In Practice Feb 18, 2020
    Show notes

This February, we've been talking all things "Friendship". We've discussed our own friendship experiences, the "why" of friendships and this week we wrap-up this series by discussing friendship in practice. To help us apply a lot of the truths we've learned and to answer listener questions, we've invited Certified Christian Counselor, Mediator and Life Coach Pat Brannon on to give us insight and wisdom into some of the harder parts of friendship.

Friendship: In Theory Feb 11, 2020
    Show notes

Continuing in our February Friendship series, this week, we dig into the why of friendships. Why do we need friends? Is it a calling to be a friend, or just a nice addition to our lives? Is there an art to deepening friend relationships, or making new friends? What does Jesus have to say about the purpose of our friendships? Our guest Kim Wier is going to help us answer all these questions and more.

Kim is the author of "The Art of Friendship: Creating and Keeping Relationships That Matter". She is also a radio talk show host, humor columnist, Bible teacher and speaker. To learn more about Kim and connect with her, visit her at www.kimwier.com. Friendship: Our Experience Feb 04, 2020
    Show notes

It's February! January was the longest month EVER! February is often considered the month of Love, but here on Woven we're talking Friendship. This week we begin the series by discussing both of our own, individual experiences with friendships over the years. While we have almost polar opposite stories, we have a common desire to seek out, develop and sustain deep and lasting friendships. This month we'll also talk to others about what it means to be a good friend "in theory" and "in practice".
