    Why do women leave companies in male-dominated industries? It is a million-dollar question. The reason why it's a million-dollar question is that the cost of turnover, the cost of losing talent, losing that knowledge that you've invested in, you've hired this great person and that goes out the door and you don't know why that is a massive drain on the bottom line. According to Catalyst Report released in 2017, only 6.6% of women work-full time in male-dominated occupations in the United States. In 2019, these decade long issues are still very pervasive and persistent. Women working in male-dominated cultures have found exciting reasons to be engaged in these industries. They want to work, but they're often forced to quit and leave their jobs through unspoken cultural norms. In this episode, we’ll go through the common obstacles that women face in male-dominated industries that many see as outdated, but they're still relevant as well as talk about the solutions to these obstacles.     Are you going big in your leadership journey? Are you taking risks? Are you being fearless? It can be so hard to take risks, and to be fearless because we usually don't want to make mistakes and we don't want to look bad. For women leaders in male dominated industries, you have so much to prove already and on top of that, you just don't want to let yourself down. A lot of you have very high standards for yourself. But what was the last time you've taken a risk at work and done something new for the very first time? As we kick off today's episode, I'm going to share with you 8 things to help inspire you to step into your power and play big as a leader. As leaders, we want to figure things out, we want things to go our way and we want it to be this or that. It's not always the case.     Today we are digging into knowing your value so that you can negotiate your work. Well just for those of you who are catching up, you don't know who I am. I'm president @zerogap.co and at zerogap We work with companies in male-dominated industries to deliver women's leadership training programs. So as we dive into knowing your value so that you can negotiate your worth, this is a very personal topic because worth is tied to a lot of personal beliefs and talking about money is also deeply personal. So first off we're not going to tackle any woo crazy things today. We're going to go through some very practical items that you can use. So if you have a pen and pad, you definitely want to chat down a few notes here. Okay. So when it comes to knowing your value, what do I mean by that? That term gets thrown around very loosely. A lot of people use the term, know your value, but when it comes to your workplace and knowing your value in the workplace, it's about understanding how you solve problems. And how you contribute in a meaningful way to achieve big goals. So each company, when they hire an employee, whether it is the CEO or someone on the entry-level, they're hiring that person to fill a gap. There is a problem that that company is trying to solve and they need a person in that position to actually go through and do the work. That's where the employee comes in. Again, doesn't matter what level you're on at each level, there are expectations now just doing the bare minimum. That's what the paycheck is for. You're paid to do the work, but when you go above and beyond and when you start to deliver exceptional value to the organization, that's where you get to go in and ask for a promotion or a raise or more responsibility or to be placed on special assignments and tied to a bigger bonus.

    In this episode of the podcast Jacqueline answers listeners questions about when it’s time to let it in for you go that you really like but they’re just not performing.

    Dealing with underperforming employees who are unfocused and disengaged is one of the greatest challenges that women in business face. Employees who are struggling to keep up can sap up life out of any business if not managed well and on time and can pull a startup under as well. On the other hand, when managed correctly, employees can become a business greatest asset.

    How do you cope with underperforming employees as a leader? You don’t have to let underperformance problems escalate to a point where you’re forced to fire an employee. One of the highly valuable skills that you should develop as a leader in your organization is being able to transform your underperforming employees into outstanding performers.
