The Weight Loss Challenge is ON! Mar 30, 2018
    Show notes

    Hey Weight Loss Nation!

    www.TheWeightLossNation.com

I was a speaker and attendee at the Podfest Multimedia Expo this past February in Orlando, Florida.

    www.Podfestexpo.com/2019

On the last day of Podfest, we had a classic "roast" for one of podcasting's pioneers.....Dave Jackson!

Dave Jackson hosts "The School of Podcasting," which is a fantastic podcast, which teaches you how to podcast. Dave has been podcasting for over 12 years!

I know.....I didn't even know what a podcast was 3 years ago! Now, I'm hosting two shows!

Anyway........Dave Jackson has another podcast (he has like 15 different shows) called "Logical Weight Loss."

During the "roast," I was really giving it to Dave, because he has had this weight loss podcast for several years, but he doesn't lose weight!

The roast was all in good fun. My fellow "roasters" had the room rolling in laughter. Dave took all the jokes and jabs really good. He's an awesome guy and a good friend!

After the ceremonies were over, Dave came up to me and told me he was so glad I was kidding him about his weight loss show during the "roast."

Dave said I inspired him to really get healthy and to lose the weight he's been trying to lose the past few years.

Then later on, one of my other podcast buddies - Jonathan Oakes, who is the host of the world known "Trivial Warfare" podcast; comes up to me and says I inspired him during the "roast" and he wants to lose weight. I was like.....cool! Good for Jonathan.

Jonathan had me and Glenn "the geek," from Horse Radio Network on Trivial Warfare.

It was me and Glenn against Jonathan.

I had previously considered myself to be pretty darn good at trivia. I would do excellent on Jeopardy or at playing Trivial Pursuit.

When I got on Trivial Warfare......I felt like I was as dumb as a rock! I was losing my mind! I made such stupid mistakes!

You have to listen to the episode. You'll laugh your butt off!

Here's the link to the episode:

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/tw117-fuggedaboudit/id964623770?i=1000385667149&mt=2

Then even later on....one of my other buddies, Niel Guilarte, the director of "The Messengers - A Podcast Documentary," and the "All Things Post" Podcast starts talking to me about his weight loss journey.

Niel tells me he really wants to hit his weight loss goal of 100 pounds, and that I inspired him from the "roast."

If I knew I was going to be so inspiring, I would have had an entire session about weight loss at the conference!

I wanted to help my buddies on their weight loss journey, so I asked each of them how I could help.

Each one of them said they wanted to be "accountable." I brought up the idea of a "challenge," and that was all I had to say.

Dave Jackson, Jonathan Oakes and Niel Guilarte are in!

The Weight Loss Nation Podcaster's Challenge is officially on!

Three men....three Podcast icons.....are fighting for their life to get healthy!

Here's the criteria I have set.

Each contestant will be measured in the following three areas:

    1. Blood Pressure

If a contestant has a blood pressure reading of 120/80 or better.....the contestant will receive five (5) points.

If a contestant has a blood pressure reading of 122/82 up to 128/88, the contestant will receive two (2) points.

If a contestant has a blood pressure reading of 130/90 or higher.....NO points will be awarded.

In fact, I'll probably call in the paramedics!

    2. BMI - Body Mass Index

Body Mass Index is a formula that takes the height and weight of the person and the percentage of fat in their bodies and awards a range.

A Body Mass Index of 18.5 - 25.0 is considered to be "normal."

If a contestant's Body Mass Index is between 18.5 and 25.0 they will be awarded five (5) points.

If a contestant's Body Mass Index is between 25.1 -29.9, the contestant will be awarded one (1) point.

Finally, if a contestant's Body Mass Index is 30.0 or higher, no points will be awarded, since they are considered "obese."

    3. AC1 Blood Test

The AC1 Blood Test measures the level of Glucose in your blood over the past two months.

An AC1 level of 5.6 or less is considered to be "normal." If a contestant has an AC1 range between 5.6 or less, they will receive 10 points.

    An AC1 level of 5.7 - 6.4 indicates "Pre-Diabetes." If a contestant has an AC1 range between 5.7 - 6.4, they will receive one (1) point.

Finally, an AC1 level of 6.5 or higher, this is an indication of Diabetes and no points will be given.

In fact, I'll be calling the paramedics in again!

The most points a contestant can achieve is 20.

If by some chance....there is a tie.....we will have a playoff......

The contestants will have to do "sit ups" on stage!

The most sit ups in a minute will determine the overall winner!

I haven't figured out what the prizes will be....maybe something good.....maybe a "Zonk."

    Heck...maybe both!

Either way.....the contestants have until March 9, 2019, to get healthy.

Podfest Multimedia Expo will be from March 7 - March 9, 2019 in beautiful, Orlando, Florida.

If you're a podcaster, someone who thinks they should be a guest on a podcast or who just wants to hang out with podcasters.....

Then join me, Dave Jackson, Jonathan Oakes and hundreds of other podcasters at the Podfest Multimedia Expo.

Organic, Fresh Meal Review Mar 23, 2018
    Show notes

    Hey Weight Loss Nation!

    www.TheWeightLossNation.com

    It's Friday....and it is a Concoction Friday!

On our last episode, (S3 Episode 13) I told you about the Diamond in the rough I found on Davis Island in Tampa, FL, called.....

    Tasty Roots!

A grab n' go cafe, that offers organic, non-gmo, fresh pre-made meals daily.

I bought three different meals and after eating them, I'm ready to review them!

The first meal I ate, was a nut-crusted eggplant with quinoa dish.

The eggplant was coated with a nut-based crust and also had a serving of quinoa.

I never had eggplant with a "nut crust." Very different then I've ever had. I'm use to having eggplant coated with "bread crumbs." After my mom or grandmother would dip the eggplant in egg wash, the eggplant would then be dipped in bread crumbs and then "fried" in a pan.

Or......after the eggplant was fried, they were layered in a pan with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese...for eggplant parmesian!

The meal was good! Certainly very, very healthy! I'm just not use to having eggplant with a nut-based coating.

So....for that reason only, I'm giving the eggplant & quinoa meal ....... 1 1/2 thumbs up!

Second meal I tried.....was the beef bone broth.

I didn't know what to do with the bone broth.....so I added lots of veggies and grilled chicken and ate it like soup.

Overall, the broth is pretty "bland." Adding the veggies and chicken, it definitely added flavor.

I love the fact the beef bone broth comes from grass-fed cows, with no hormones or anti-biotics. Just organic, non-gmo beef bone broth.

For good health.....the broth gets a big 2+++ thumbs up!

For taste.....the broth is pretty bland....I have to give it a 1 weight loss nation thumb's up!

Finally, I had the Turkey with mashed sweet potatoes and green beans.

I never have Turkey! I usually only have it on Thanksgiving or if someone else roasts a Turkey. So..for me....this was a treat!

The Turkey is all white meat, organic, non-gmo, free range turkeys. The sweet potato and green beans are organic and non-gmo.

The overall taste was great! Garlic with salt & pepper on the turkey. Cinnamon and coconut milk on the mashed sweet potatoes and salt n pepper on the green beans. Delish!

I give this meal a big 2 weight Loss Nation thumbs up!

Tasty Roots is located at 215 E Davis Blvd. on Davis Island in Tampa, FL.

Where Do I Go to Get Organic, Fresh Made Meals? Mar 20, 2018
    Show notes

    Hey Weight Loss Nation!

    It's Tampa Bay Tuesday!

That's right! I have an awesome, Healthy place for you to check out if you live in the Tampa Bay area.

    Today…..I am reviewing "Tasty Roots"

"Tasty Roots" is a small brick n mortar store, located on beautiful "Davis Island" in Tampa.

Standing among the beautiful shops and restaurants in the "down town" section of Davis Island….. stands "Tasty Roots."

I walked in and standing at the register is a sweet, young lady, who immediately says "Hi" to me and she smiles.

I LOVE when people smile at me. Don't you love that! It immediately makes you smile right back at that person. You automatically feel better when you smile!

I was introduced to this wonderful woman, by my friend Sarah, and this woman turns out to be the owner of "Tasty Roots" Her name is Kirstin Coolman.

I start speaking with Kirstin and I tell her all about Weight Loss Nation…… and my long-term healthy lifestyle.

Kirstin tells me that she is also living a long-term healthy lifestyle and she tells me how she "Loves" to "create" her healthy meals…….every day!..... for the people on Davis Island.

I love that. FRESH meals made daily!!

I walk over to the refrigerators and there are a lot of choices!

"Tasty Roots" has meal choices with meat…. Or… without meat.

Tasty Roots has meals with Chicken…. Beef…. Salmon… tuna and turkey.

For Veggies….Tasty Roots has a HUGE variety…..they use..

Beets, Bell Pepper, Broccoli, Brussels Sprout, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Celery, Collard Greens, Green Beans,Mushrooms, Onions, Peas, Spinach, Tomatoes and Zucchini.

Tasty Roots offers a variety….of healthy pre-made meals ….that cater to many different Meal Plans…..

including traditional ….. gluten-free, paleo, vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian (which I had no idea what that was until Kirstin told me it is a person who doesn't eat meat, except for Fish.)

"Tasty Roots" offer custom meal plans, snacks, teas, cold brew coffee, fresh produce……raw and vegan desserts…..,and…..

    Bone Broths!

All the ingredients that Tasty Roots use…. are

    ORGANIC and NONGMO!

"Tasty Roots" …….IS…….an Organic Grab N' Go Cafe. That's the best way for me to describe it. All their meals are made with ingredients that are organic & Non- GMO, sourced from local farms…..AND…..the meals are made from SCRATCH! Just like your mom or Grandmother would make.

I looked over the meals in the refrigerator and picked out Three pre-made meals.

I picked out Turkey….with Green Beans & Sweet Potato, because I LOVE Sweet Potatoes and I never make Turkey….which…..I also Love!

I picked out Grilled Eggplant in an almond crust with quinoa…because….I friggin LOVE Eggplant….which I NEVER Cook….because I SUCK at Cooking…..AND….I LOVE Quinoa!

And I picked out a quart of Bone Broth. Why? Because I've been hearing & reading all about "Bone Broth" and I want to taste what it's all about!

The meals have a "use by date" written directly on the label, to ensure great taste and food safety, since they don't use and "preservatives."

The portion is made as "one serving" which comes in a plastic container. Looks a little "skimpy" to me……since I eat like a friggin "Football Player." We'll see if that fills me up. It would probably fill up 99% of the people who eat that meal…….I just happen to be the 1%, who has a "portion control" issue right now!

OK….we'll see. My EYES are getting the best of me right now.

Anyway….The prices are a bit high……which I expected…..due to the meals being pre-made and Organic.

Meals with "meat" range from $10.75 up to $14.50 for the Salmon.

Vegetarian meals range from $9 to $10.75

The Turkey meal I picked out was $12.75 & the Eggplant meal was $9.00.

The Quart of Bone Broth was $19.00. I could have bought the "chicken broth" at $8.00 a quart.. but I really wanted to taste the "Bone Broth."

The place is very, very clean. Even the glass on the refrigerator doors are clean!

Very impressed with how clean and organized "Tasty Roots" is.

I bought the Bone Broth Frozen…..so it kept my other 2 meals nice n cold for the trip home.

I'm going to eat these meals and let you know on "Concoction Friday" if I liked them or NOT.

Kristin is very helpful and will answer ANY questions you have about her daily made meals as well as her knowledgeable staff.

"Tasty Roots" is open Monday – Saturday from 11:00am – 7:00pm and they are open on Sundays from 12:00 – 5pm

You can visit their FB page at www.facebook.com/pg/TastyRootsTampa

Or you can email Kirstin Coolman @ TastyRootsTampa@gmail.com

Visit "Tasty Roots" on Davis Island!

The address is – 218 E. Davis Blvd, Tampa, FL 33606.

Again…..I'll determine how many "thumbs up" for "Tasty Roots" AFTER …….I eat the meals.

As far as Cleanliness and the availability of food choices??

Hands Down a BIG 2 Weight Loss Nation thumbs up!

Friday…..I'll get to the Review of the actual Food!

    I HATE Brussels Sprouts! Mar 16, 2018
    Show notes

    Hey Weight Loss Nation!

On our last episode, I told you all about Brussels Sprout.

Are Brussels Sprout from Brussels Belgium?

I'm not telling you! Go listen to Ep. 11 and find out.

Today I'm going to tell you how to make a nice, easy recipe with Brussels Sprout.

There are a few ways to cook Brussels sprout.

Ireland's Former Food Minister - Trevor Sargent, listed online his preferred method of cooking of brussels sprouts.

This is important for me……since I am not good at cooking! I can use anybody and everybody's help with cooking!

Placing the sprouts in a single layer in a saucepan, covering them in just enough water to cover the stalks and boiling with salt and butter until the water is absorbed

TIP Overcooking Brussels Sprout, releases "sulfur" compounds in the vegetables that give it a distinctive smell commonly found to be unpleasant. You got that right buddy!

If correctly cooked, the unpleasant smell is avoided and the vegetable possesses a delicate nutty flavor.

You can also "roast" brussels sprouts. That's how I tried this recipe and I'm going to share with you…….right now!

Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Toasted Pecans and Avocado

    Makes 8 servings

    • 1/2 cup pecan pieces
    • 2 and 1/2 pounds brussels sprouts
    • 1/4 cup olive oil
    • 1 avocado, diced
    • 2-4 tablespoons dried Rosemary
    • Freshly ground pepper
    • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
    1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spread the pecan pieces out on a baking dish and bake for 5 minutes until toasted.
    2. Boil water in a large saucepan and blanch the brussels sprouts for about 3 minutes. Drain and pat dry with a paper towel. Let cool and chop brussels sprouts in halves or thirds.
    3. Toss the brussels sprouts in a large bowl with the olive oil. Transfer to two baking sheets and bake for twenty minutes, turning halfway through.
    4. Toss the brussels sprouts back into the large bowl and mix with pecans, avocado and Rosemary. Season with freshly ground pepper and drizzle with balsamic vinegar.

This Recipe is adapted from Food and Wine Magazine November 2011 Issue.

Each ONE Cup serving will be about 100 calories.

Enjoy that recipe and let me know what you thought of it!

Send me an email to Support@TheWeightLossNation.com

Are Brussels Sprout from Brussels? S3 Ep011 Mar 13, 2018
    Show notes

    Hey Weight Loss Nation!

    www.TheWeightLossNation.com

    ARE BRUSSELS SPROUTS FROM BRUSSELS?

Brussels Sprout are part of the "wild cabbage" & "mustard seed" family.

According to the "New World Encyclopedia," Brussels Sprout were likely cultivated in Ancient Rome and possibly as early as 1200 B.C. in Belgium's Capital City - Brussels.

So.....YES....Brussels Sprout comes from Brussels, Belgium!

There is written documentation of Brussels Sprout as early as 1587, being used as a vegetable crop and it is believed Brussels Sprout originated from a mutation from the "Savoy Cabbage."

The vegetable grows as a "Stem," which the "sprouts" grow into a "cabbage-like" head.

Many rows of sprouts are produced on a single…..long…..stem. The leafy, green buds look like miniature "cabbages."

There are two main varieties that are grown. One is the "tall" variety, which stands 2-4 feet tall…..and the second is the "short" variety, which grows to a maximum of 2 feet tall.

Brussels Sprout like "cool" temperatures and produces best at between 60-65 Degrees Fahrenheit.

Fields are ready for "harvest," between 90 days to 6 months.

Depending on the variety, a Brussels Sprout "stalk," can product 1 ½ - 3 pounds of Brussels Sprout per Stalk! That's a lot of Brussels Sprout!

Brussels Sprout were brought to the U.S, around 1800, when French Settlers brought them to Louisiana.

Commercial production began in the Louisiana Delta around 1925, and production was moved to mid-California in 1939. Some of the production was also moved to New York in the same year.

Much of the U.S. production of Brussels Sprout is in California, with a smaller percentage grown in Skagit Valley, Washington, where cool springs, mild summers, and rich soil is perfect for the Brussels Sprout. An even smaller percentage is grown on Long Island, New York, where it is also cool in spring and fall.

Currently, there are several thousand acres planted in coastal areas of San Mateo, Santa Cruz, and Monterey counties of California which offer an ideal combination of coastal fog and cool temperatures year-round.

About 80 to 85 percent of U.S. production is for the frozen food market, with the remainder for fresh consumption.

A Restaurant At The Gas Station Mar 06, 2018
    Show notes

    Hey Weight Loss Nation!

    www.TheWeightLossNation.com

Today is Tampa Bay Tuesday! I'm ready to Rate & Review "CURRY LEAVES" RESTAURANT...which is located at

    4843 w. Kennedy Blvd …Tampa, FL 33609

    813 – 319- 4015

    Hours

Mon thru Saturday 11 AM to 2:30 PM & 5.00 PM to 9.30 PM Daily Sunday : 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM & 5:00 PM To 9:30 PM

    www.curryleavesindiancuisine.com

I thought WAZE brought me to the "wrong" location at first, since it was telling me to TURN into the BP Gas Station.

I was heading North on West Shore Blvd and WAZE told me to turn Right (East) onto Kennedy. I turn right and WAZE is telling me "You have arrived at your destination" I'm like……What???? It's a Gas Station!

I turn into the BP Gas station to get off the street, figuring I'm gonna have to "re-calculate" the directions.

When I pull into the gas station……I see straight ahead…..next to the convenience part of the gas station…..a very small outdoor patio and a sign that reads above……"Curry Leaves."

I'm like…..no firggin way! This is the restaurant! In a gas station! I wasn't happy to say the least. I parked in an area to the side of the convenience store, marked as "parking for curry leaves" and walk over to the restaurant.

I literally stood at the front door and put my face against the door to look inside.

Low and behold……I see about 15 tables with white linen tablecloths. I also see about 8 people inside eating.

I open the door and step inside. A woman with a friendly smile, comes right up to me and asks me…. "Are you having dinner? How many?"

I promptly tell her I have a party of 6, and she sits me at a long table by the front window.

I ask the woman her name and she replies….."Hershey"

I'm like…. "Hershey…. like Hershey chocolate." With a smile she responds….."Yes…just like Hershey chocolate."

I ask Hershey for a beverage menu so that I could select a drink while waiting for my Podcasting buddies to join me for dinner.

I selected "Marsala" Tea……which immediately reminded me of "Marsala" in the movie "Ben Hur" I LOVE that movie. ….I can hear Marsala right now….saying …….Judahhhhh……Marsallllaaaaa. , A few minutes later, Hershey brought me the tea and I could smell mint. I tasted the Marsala tea….. and it tasted of mint and "Indian" spices like Corriander. I'll say it was definitely Different.

A few minutes later, my buddies started entering the restaurant.

Tonight…I was dining with good friend Dr. Rachel Haviland – host of Reclaim Your Health Podcast, my buddy Gabe Aluisy – host of Private Club Radio Show, my buddy Joseph Warren - host of "First 100k for Entrepreneurs" podcast, my buddy Jason Strohl – co-owner of Co-Creativ Virtual office and Business Lounge office space in South Tampa and Downtown Tampa. I also dined with my friend... the beautiful Ana Aluisy...Marriage & Family Therapist at "Come Get Help," in Tampa, FL.

    Come Get Help

Also dining with me is one of my newest friends…..University of Tampa graduate…..Juhi Kore. Juhi is a 20 y.o. brilliant young woman from Bombay, India……who LOVES Tampa! Jew He majored in business and Political Science and is truly a GIFT to the planet. Besides her intelligence, I love her non-judgemental attitude as well as her…..no-nonsense attitude too! She Reminds me of myself when I was 20 y.o. and I thought I was going to save the world.

Our waiter ……"Harish" came over to take our orders and I asked Harish if the owner of the restaurant was available this evening. Harish told us that Saji was the owner and he would bring him right over.

In less than 2 minutes, a handsome, man came over and introduced himself as Saji Matthew….owner of Curry Leaves Restaurant.

How Polite!!! I proceed to introduce myself to Saji and advise him that I will be rating & reviewing "Curry Leaves" restaurant on the Weight Loss Nation podcast.

Saji had a very big smile across his face and nodding his head said ….."that is wonderful." First question to Saji was……."What made you decide to open Curry Leaves in a Gas Station?"

Without any hesitation…..Saji promptly said……..I own the gas station and I always wanted to have a restaurant here. I opened a pizza place with another owner……and it didn't do so well. We parted ways….and I decided to go back to my Indian roots and I wanted to open an Authentic Indian Restaurant, so the people of Tampa could experience and enjoy authentic Indian food.

The restaurant is doing well and I have a large amount of "regular" customers now.

The restaurant has been open for over a year now and has been doing quite well.

When asked what item on the menu he would recommend to a "1st timer" at the restaurant, who wasn't familiar with Indian food, Saji said……I would suggest the "Chicken Varutharacchathu" I had no idea what Saji said to me.

I had to ask him to point the item out on the menu for me, which he did.

To me…..he was saying….."Vera cha cha" I know that's not how you pronounce it…but…that's what I'm calling it.

"Vera Cha Cha" is chicken cooked in a coconut gravy. Sounded delicious. Saji said he would bring out a bowl for the table to try.

Awesome…right? As a group we ordered different items, so that each of us could try different things on the menu.

Here are the items we ordered……"Butter Chicken" which is Chicken in a "mild" curry sauce,.

a dish called….."HariYali Chicken" Another tough name. I decided to call that dish…..Rivera ….Harera….easier for me to remember…thinking of Heraldo Rivera. Rivera Harera is chicken in a "green" herb sauce, which comes on a hot skillet.

We also ordered "Chicken Tikka" which is Chicken marinated in special spices then grilled on skewers.

We also ordered….."Lamb Vindaloo" which was lamb cooked in a "tangy" tomato and red chili sauce.

And finally we ordered….Chicken Tikki "Marsala" which is Boneless Chicken cooked in a mild tomato and cream sauce.

There are MANY Healthy items on the Curry Leaves menu.

They even have a nice "Vegetarian" selection.

From Mulligatawny Soup…..which I called "Mulligan's Soup" for ease of ordering. Mulligans Soup is Lentil Soup with a splash of coconut milk.

    Absolutely delicious by the way!

They also have a Fresh Garden Salads with a blend of Olive Oil and Lemon Juice.

    Yummy!

As far as the meals we ordered……the healthiest to me was the "Rivera Herera" Chicken.

Delicious combination of herbs & spices on the white chicken meat with lots of sautéed vegatables. Very Good meal!

Now….. all the meals come with Basmati Rice. You put some of the rice on your plate and then spoon out your meal out of the "Tandoor Bowl" and onto the rice.

I personally do not eat white rice, so I ate my meal as it was. Delicious as far as I was concerned.

Saji also brought different "Naan" breads to the table, where you can "dip" the Naan bread into the bowls. Again……I don't eat "white" bread….so I didn't eat the Naan bread. Everyone else Loved the NAAN Bread. Kudo's on the flavorful bread Saji!

I tasted a spoonful of each meal that was put on the table, and my favorites were:

    1. Saji's recommendation "Vera Cha Cha"
    2. The "Rivera Herera" Chicken

Finally….The Chicken Tikki….which had fantastic flavor!

After dinner…….Saji brought dessert out to the table.

One dessert was called "Gulab Jamun," which is Milk solids in a honey syrup.

Saji also brought out "Mango Kulfi" and "Pistachio Kulfi" which is ice cream in the shape of a square…..that was as HARD as a rock!

I tried a very small bite of the Mango & Pistachio Kulfi….which was quite good!

Saji said they make the Kulfi fresh daily.

I didn't try the "Gulab Jamun." Everyone else said it was pretty good.

    Overall…..the food was DELICIOUS!

The prices are incredible, with the most expensive dish on the menu, coming in at $19.99, which was a "Mixed Grill" A combination of chicken, lamb and shrimp.

Most of the meals are around $12.99 with portion size very satisfying.

Saji Matthew……..I am giving you and your Curry Leaves Restaurant a HUGE

    " 2 WLN Thumbs Up"

Your food is Delicious, portioned right and the price is perfect! Your staff are polite, patient and always SMILING!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CURRY LEAVES RESTAURANT… which is located at

Saji Matthew has a "Sister" Indian Restaurant called "Bay Leaves" which is located at 4023 W Waters Ave in Tampa.

"Bay Leaves" Restaurant has a Liquor License if you wanted to have a beer or wine with your dinner.

    Bay Leaves Restaurant

Curry Leaves does not serve alcohol, which I thought was great!

You have done a fabulous job of presenting Delicious, Authentic Indian Food to the People of Tampa Bay …… Saji Matthew.

I will be back! Thank you for your hospitality and your Delicious Indian Food.

Burn Calories by DANCING! Feb 27, 2018
    Show notes

    Hey Weight Loss Nation!

    wwww.TheWeightLossNation.com

    http://podfestexpo.com/2019

The 2nd side of the Weight Loss Nation Triange, is Moving Your Body!

Your body "burns calories," as you move and perform activities.

Many of you have stated on my FB thread, that you LOVE to Dance!

While in Orlando, I decided to stop into a nightclub that offers a high energy, fun way to sing, dance or even play a musical instrument if you want!

I visited Howl At The Moon to see if I could "Live a Healthy Lifestyle," while visiting a nightclub.

I arrived on a Saturday night, around 11:00pm and International Drive in Orlando was hustling n' bustling!

A tall, strong man greeted me and my Podcaster friends with a smile, at the front entrance to Howl At The Moon.

"Ten Dollar Cover Charge folks," he stated. "What band is playing? I asked.

"You haven't been here before have you?" The bouncer asked with a slight grin.

    "Never," I replied.

After telling the bouncer I was the host of Weight Loss Nation Podcast and I wanted to rate & review Howl At The Moon

for the podcast.......the bouncer answered...."let me get you the manager."

About five minutes later, a young man with a big smile came over and introduced himself as Paul Pronsati, the General Manager.

I asked Mr. Pronsati if he would mind if I rated & reviewed Howl At The Moon for my podcast and Mr. Pronsati was happy to oblige.

When you enter the premise, you better be ready to dance! There is a "U - Shaped" Bar as you enter the room. Tables and chairs are set up near the bar for those of you that aren't dancing!

Then......you see & hear the entertainment!

On stage you see two pianos facing each other and the band is rockin out to Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog."

Behind the stage sits two large mirrors, framed out and separated.....with messages written with "removable ink."

On the left side the message reads......$24 Drink Tito's .... on the right side reads.....$5 Go Eagles!

I asked a server walking past me what the messages meant on the mirrors and she replied...."People pay to have their messages seen. You have to pay a higher amount then what's on the board to have your message displayed."

    What a cool idea!

I'm watching a large crowd singing and dancing and I decide to try out the message board.

I walk up to side of the stage, where a table has pens and paper for you to sign up to have your message posted.

I jot down...... $6 Subscribe to The Weight Loss Nation Podcast.

I hand the paper to one of the band members and he gives me an "affirmative nod," and puts out an open hand.

I hand him $6 in cash and he walks straight over to the right side of the mirror and "erases" ....Go Eagles....then promptly writes $6 Subscribe to The Weight Loss Nation Podcast on the mirror.

How friggin cool! What was even cooler....is that my message stayed up on that mirror for about 20 minutes!

    Cool concept.....cheap advertising!

As soon as the band finished playing.....I see a woman and man step up to the stage and the guy sits behind the drums and the woman takes one of the mics. The band plus the additional two members start to play a "Heart" song.

I get the attention of another server near me and ask her who the woman is that is singing on the stage. The server replies...."that's a customer who paid to sing that song with her boyfriend playing the drums."

WHAT???? I then ask the server....."Can anyone do that?" Server replies...."of course...that's part of the entertainment here all night."

Wow.....another cool concept. I felt like I was in a foreign country since I had no idea what was going on right before my eyes.

The crowd LOVES it! People are singing and dancing to the amateurs singing and playing on the stage.

I decide to join the crowd and BURN some calories by DANCING!

I danced two straight songs that were awesome and then went to grab some water at the bar.

I asked the bartender for a menu and he handed me one. I wanted to see if I could find any "healthy" items on the menu. The only thing was.....I only saw "drinks" on the menu. I asked the bartender if I could see the "food" menu and he says......"We don't serve food here. It's BYOF." (Bring Your Own Food).

I was like.....You have NO FOOD to eat here?

The bartender was a sweetie. With great patience he replies....."We have a vending machine in the corner there. People bring their own food." We have private parties with food, but that's it."

I walked over to the "vending machine," and it was filled with your typical "sugar n carb" snacks.

I see Paul Pronsati and I walk over to him and ask him why they don't have any "meals" to eat, and Mr. Pronsati replies......."We encourage people to bring in their own food. We are all about having a fun evening with our entertainment." "We do have private parties and offer a buffett." We want people to drink responsible and have lots of fun here. Bring in food or even have food delivered. It's all about having a good time."

What an education I received that night.

I danced and sang along with the crowd. I can say with certainty, if you want to "burn calories" by dancing to good music, "Howling At The Moon," is a great place to come and do just that.

The "Drink" menu is quite large, and you will not be permitted to "bring in" any kind of drink.

There are many creative drinks on the menu, but they are full of sugar.....so do your due dilligence.

They have a nice selection of lite beers and as for wine....you can choose a Barefoot Wine selection. That's the only type of wine they have.

For me and many of you.....water will be the drink of the evening. That's a good thing...since you will be singing and dancing and need to rehydrate!

Bring your "grilled chicken salad," protein shake, or whatever else it is you are eating while "Living a Healthy Lifestyle."

Howl at the Moon gets a BIG "Two WLN Thumbs Up," for being creative and allowing us Healthy people to bring our own food in.

Burning calories by Dancing is awesome!

    Hey Weight Loss Nation!

    www.TheWeightLossNation.com

While attending Podfest Multimedia Expo in Orlando, I had the opportunity to check out another Orlando Restaurant Menu for Healthy Meals.

If you're interested in learning more about Podfest Multimedia Expo go to www.podfestexpo.com/2019

Tonight, I checked out FishBones a restaurant boasting "fresh fish' and aged steaks.

FishBones claims to....."offer the freshest just-caught seafood flown in daily."

FishBones also claims to be ....listed as one of America's Top Ten Seafood Restaurants.

    Let me check that out!

I "Googled" America's Top Ten Seafood Restaurants....and FishBones was not in the six different lists I viewed.

I then "Googled" Top Ten Seafood Restaurants in Central Florida.....Guess What?

FishBones made Trip Advisor's Top Ten List!

Now that we got that straightened out......let's get to my review!

Charley and Ron Woodsby.....the father and son team, who started "Talk of the Town Restaurants, Inc." in 1974.....currently own ten restaurants in the Central Florida area.

The restaurants are privately owned, and are comprised of such familiar names as .......

"Charley's Steak House" named after Charley Woodsby himself, "Texas Cattle Company", "Johnnies Hideaway," "Vito's Chop House", "Moon Fish" and of course the restaurant I'm reviewing today....... FishBones.

The corporate office took on the name "Talk of the Town Restaurants, Inc." and today has over 1000 employees with 64 million dollars in sales among ten restaurants.

There are two "FishBone" restaurant locations:

    1. Lake Mary Location

    7005 County Road 46A ( H E Thomas Jr Pkwy ) Lake Mary, FL 32746

407-581-2399 Happy Hour: 4:30pm-6:30pm Available in the bar and patio only

    2. Orlando, FL Location

This review is for the Orlando, FL location only.

When you walk into FishBones Restaurant, you realize Seafood is a specialty here.

From the big, Aquarium greeting you as you enter, to the maritime feel of the furniture and decor.

My party of Podcasters were greeted by FishBones Hostess - Alexa.

Alexa was cordial, kind and we were seated in a more "private section" for our large party to talk and hear ourselves talk.

We were greeted by our waiter Xavier, who introduced himself to our party of Podcasters and gave each of us a drink menu and dinner menu.

Xavier promptly asked if any of us wanted a glass of water while we looked over the menus.......and being I drink lots of water all day, I replied a big "Yes" as well as a few of my other colleagues.

The Menu at FishBones has a variety of items to suit your taste.

The prices are expensive.....so don't come to FishBones if you are going to have a "chicken" entree.

The Fish is boasted to be "Fresh" and flown in to the restaurant "daily."

Steaks are aged steaks and cooked over an 1100° citrus and oak wood fire, the Prime Rib is cooked for 23-hours...... slow roasted.

BoneFish has an award winning Wine Menu.....

WINE SPECTATOR MAGAZINE'S Award of Excellence

I'm a Chardonnay girl and Xavier suggested a Chardonnay Wine for me....and it was very good.

    Chardonnay is $8.00 - $17.00 a glass.

One of the "specials" of the day was "Trigger fish"

I never heard of Trigger fish and Xavier said it was flown in that day from Hawaii. When I asked him to describe Trigger Fish....Xavier stated it was like Sea Bass and would flake when I put my fork in it.

I ordered the Trigger Fish and each entree comes with salad, "garlic cheese .....butter bread...as well as a "Signature Side."

I did not touch the Garlic Cheese Butter Bread....and it was tough.....it looked delicious and my compadres were .....ummming and yumming over it.

I did have salad, and I opted for a "premium side" since the signature sides were pretty much all about potatoes.

I ordered the "creamed kale." since they didn't have "creamed spinach" on the menu.

I was worried how "creamed kale" would turn out...

The "trigger fish" came plated with a sauteed onion glaze and the "creamed kale" was in a separate bowl on the plate.

The trigger fish was delicious! Flaky just as Xavier said it would be...and the portion size was very good.

The "creamed kale" was excellent too! The Kale was soft and had the same "creamy" flavor that creamed spinach would have. Pleasantly delighted with creamed Kale.

Xavier was very attentive to all our needs.....and Executive Chef.....Marcus King......came over to our table to see how everything was.

My entree was awesome......unfortunately my buddy Joseph didn't have the same experience as I did.

Joseph ordered the "whole gulf snapper" I was going to split the snapper with him, since I LOVE snapper, but I thought the snapper was cut and filleted.

No........they cook the whole damn fish on the citrus oak wood fire....head, eyes and tail!

Then they cut open the fish and there the whole damn fish is on your plate. YUCKY for me!!!! Hell no........

I don't want no fish with it's head and eyes looking at me while I'm eating. Plus it had ALL the bones in it. It's like eating the fish like a cave man for the love of God!

I had to decline and I ordered the Trigger Fish.

When Joseph's entree was placed before him.....I could smell a very "fishy" odor coming from his plate. Very odd for a place that "Boasts" how fresh the fish is.

Within seconds.....Joseph was asking me if I smelled a "fishy" smell. I told him and we both took a bite. It tasted ok...but I wouldn't want to eat any fish that "smells" fishy.

Either the fish wasn't stored properly or the fish just wasn't fresh.

Joseph told Xavier and he ordered the "Florida Gator" appetizer instead.

Within a few minutes......Yassine El Harra.....the Manager came over to Joseph and apologized whole-heartedly about the "Snapper."

    Nice gesture!

After Joseph started eating his "Gator" All was good!

The rest of the dinner service, conversation and meal was fabulous!

How do I rate FishBones with our Weight Loss Nation thumbs up scale?

My Trigger Fish dinner and service gets a BIG 2 thumbs up!

Joseph's "Whole Snapper" gets a a BIG 2 thumbs down!

Overall.....the service, food and atmosphere gets 1 1/2 Thumbs Up!

FishBones is expensive and you can expect to pay over $25 an entree.
