Episode 202: A Day in the Life of a Natural Eater Dec 22, 2020
    Show notes

Your goal is to become a natural eater, right?
That means that you know when you’re hungry and you eat.
You know when you are nicely satisfied, and you stop eating.

It does not mean that you are an accomplished dieter. Nope.
That is not our goal in this work together.
Your goal is to read the signals from your body and answer them.

That said, you might not be able to imagine what it would feel like to be a natural eater.
Maybe you’ve always struggled with your weight. And the thought of losing that struggle seems foreign to you.
    I understand.

So today, I’m going to help you see and hear what it would be like to be a natural eater on a day-to-day basis.

Natural eaters don’t have perfect lives. They have good days and very challenging days. Just like you and me.

The difference is that even on the most challenging of days, they don’t abandon the way they eat, the way they think OR the way they care for themselves.

Let’s walk through this vision together. I’m going to show you an example of how a natural eater navigates a typical day…the kind of day when things actually go according to plan. (Imagine!)

We’ll also take a peek into a day in the life of a natural eater who is going through a hard day. Things do not go as planned.

What does she do? Does she attack the fridge and order in the pizzas?
Join me in this coaching session and find out.
I know you can learn to be a natural eater.
    And I’m here to help.

Episode 201 Dealing With Food Pushers Dec 15, 2020
    Show notes

Is there someone in your life who is always pushing food on you?
    Even when you aren’t hungry?

Someone who doesn’t take no for an answer?

Most of us have dealt with friends or family who do this at some point in time.
    We’ve heard those words:

But I made it just for you!
    Everyone is having some.
    You’re no fun!
    Is that all you’re having?

Most of us have felt the anger, the embarrassment, and the guilt and those feelings are so uncomfortable, sometimes we think it’s easier to just go ahead and eat.

    Even if you’re not hungry.
I’ve been there and I’ll bet you have also.

You just want to crawl into a hole rather than have all the attention on you and what you are or aren’t eating, right?

This coaching session will help you look at why some people push others to eat food they don’t want or need and have a new perspective about it.

From there, we will talk about how to recognize this challenge and come up with a game plan to deal with the next food pusher you meet.

You are always in charge of what, when and how much you eat.
Now let’s understand why others might push you to eat more than you need and figure out how to honor yourself without having a big issue with them.

    You can absolutely do this!

Episode 200 – How Eating Fast Messes Up Your Weight Loss Efforts Dec 08, 2020
    Show notes

    Are you a fast eater?
Do you practically inhale your food?
And regularly finish before everyone else?

Well, we need to talk. This habit is bound to give you results you don’t really want.
    Results like extra weight.
    Less satisfaction with your food.
And being constantly frustrated being on a merry-go-round you can’t seem to get off.

What if you could enjoy your food more AND get to your natural weight?
Of course you’d love it, right?
The answer for you may be changing your eating style.
In this case, the speed at which you are eating most of the time.

You may know where your speed-eating habit came from.
Maybe you watched your family eat quickly.
Maybe there wasn’t always enough food, and you had to speed up to get your share.
Or maybe you’ve developed a scarcity way of thinking. Even though you have enough now, you still inexplicably feel that fear of ‘not enough’.

Time to slow down, my dear.
Time to taste your food, get satisfaction from your food, and enjoy mealtime as a chance to care for yourself, to visit with others perhaps, and to get great pleasure from your food.

The way to do this is to slow down your eating.
In this coaching session, I will talk about what happens when you always eat fast, why you might do it, AND how to slow down.

    Are you with me?

Episode 199: What Happens After Weight Loss? Dec 01, 2020
    Show notes

If you are still struggling with your weight and your eating, I’ll bet you have a vision about what it will be like when you get ‘there’.

When you get that number on the scale.
    Or that size jeans.
Or maybe it’s just the lack of struggle that you wish for.

And I’ll bet that your vision of life ‘after’ weight loss involves some rainbows, beautiful kittens and unicorns, right?
After all, if losing the extra weight is your goal for SO many years, and you finally get there, life should be pretty sweet.

    Here’s the reality:
Yes, it’s wonderful to achieve your goal.
It’s amazing to feel proud of changing your thinking to change your eating and actually reach your goal.
But there is another change that has to happen.

    And that is your identity.
    Your self-image.
It takes work to let your self-image catch up with the changes in your body.
In order to feel comfortable in who you are, the inside and the outside have to match.
And often, this doesn’t happen right away.

After weight loss, I don’t want you to slip-slide your way back to an old familiar problem. I want you to be moving ahead and find a new project to work on.
Nothing to do with weight and eating.

Should you still be learning and growing as a person, after you’ve reached your weight loss goals? Absolutely.
And that’s what we will talk about today.

Episode 198: Thanksgiving Without Being Stuffed Nov 24, 2020
    Show notes

    Happy holidays!
This week marks the beginning of several weeks of holidays.
That means parties, family gatherings, and lots of food.

How do you feel about this first holiday in the US?
Thanksgiving is all about being grateful for what we have, who we are connected to and all the blessings in our lives.

But too often, for many of you, it’s all about the food.
    The turkey.
    The stuffing.
    The pies.
    The side dishes.
    Need I go on?

You don’t have to go to your holiday meals carrying a small Tupperware container with veggies and cottage cheese.
    That’s old school, right?

You are here to live your life and that includes enjoying good food.
But that doesn’t have to mean that you leave this holiday being as stuffed as the turkey!

I want you to feel excited going into this holiday, not dreading it.
So today we’re going to talk about dealing with this holiday season in a way that allows for pleasure, but still leaves you in charge of what you do, how you eat and how you feel.

I’m going to show you how to think going into these celebrations, what to do, and how to create an occasion for yourself that you can look back at and feel proud.

Proud of yourself for keeping your word to yourself, AND still enjoying good food and good company!

Are you ready for this holiday-themed coaching session?
Join me as we take on Thanksgiving.

And by the way, I am grateful to be in your world. I love nothing more (aside from my family!) than sharing what I know with you, my dear listeners and Freedom Group members.

    xoxo, Cookie

In The Freedom Group, we often share books that promote what we teach about becoming a natural eater, reaching goals and losing weight.

Often these books are not weight loss books but are personal development books that we apply to weight loss.

The Slight Edge, by Jeff Olson, is one of these books.
It’s one of my favorite books!
Today I’m going to take The Slight Edge philosophy and show you how you can use it to reach your weight loss goals and transform yourself into a natural eater.

We will talk about small actions and simple choices that day after day, produce huge results. Things that are easy to do AND at the same time are easy to not do.

I want you to see that everything you do adds up to your results.
Everything you do and eat counts.
Not in the sense of counting points or calories, because you know we don’t do that here.
But in the sense that all your actions count.

So you might do something you know is not helpful, and think: oh, what’s the big deal?
I can always get back on track tomorrow.

    Have you ever said this?
If you have, you probably know that when you are trying to change, it all counts. It’s all a big deal.
So every decision you make is important.
    Everything you do is important.
And so it everything you don’t do.

In this coaching session, I’m going to show you examples of some simple choices you make that you might think don’t matter, when it comes to food and eating. And yet they do.

We’ll talk about why taking the important small steps in the right direction is hard….and what can make it easier.

And I’ll help you see how to create a ‘slight edge’ for yourself, so your change is inevitable.

Join me today and we can start creating an edge for you that is easy to do and will add up to the change you wish for.

Episode 196 – Love to Plan or Hate to Plan? Nov 10, 2020
    Show notes

Are you one of those people who runs the other way when I talk about planning?
Planning what your week looks like.
    Planning your meals.
    Planning your self-care.
    Planning some fun.

You get the idea. Planning means thinking ahead to make things easier for yourself.
But lots of us still think of planning as boring, restrictive rules.
You might think that a plan will tell you what you HAVE to do, vs. what you want to do.

Well, when you are the creator of your plan, it’s something you are doing for yourself.
That means that you are taking care of the most important person in your life: YOU.

Without planning, you will almost always do the same things you’ve always done. And if you want to change anything, that means you have to do things differently.

The way this happens is by thinking ahead of time about what you want, and then mapping out the steps to take to get yourself there.

You can do this, and you can do it without feeling burdened.
It is something you aren’t born with; it’s something you learn.
I will teach you why planning helps you be successful at reaching your goals, and how to think about it so it doesn’t feel like a big, boring chore.

Are you ready to dive in?

Episode 195: Thoughts Before and After Eating Nov 03, 2020
    Show notes

Did you know that your overeating episodes are totally predictable?
I’ll bet you think that you are helpless against those strong urges that sneak up on you.

The truth is, your thoughts right before you overeat are really accurate predictors of what you will do….will you overdo it?
Or will you wait to be hungry before you eat?

Natural eaters have thoughts before they eat. And of course, they also have thoughts after they eat.

But they are SO different from the thoughts that emotional eaters and habitual overeaters have.

And in this coaching session, I’m going to share with you those thoughts that natural eaters use to eat just the right amount at the right time.

You can borrow these thoughts until they become natural for you.
Because I know your goal is to become a natural eater, right?

So you don’t just want to focus on how they eat.
You want to focus on what they think to be able to eat the way they do.
And that’s exactly what I am going to show you today.

Try on some of these thoughts and see how they feel, and what they lead you to do. I think you’ll be surprised to see that eating naturally is not as hard as you think, once you see the difference between your thoughts and a natural eater’s thoughts.

    Let’s do this!

Episode 194: The Clean Plate Club Oct 27, 2020
    Show notes

    Are you a finisher?
Do you eat all the food that is served to you and then go back for more?
And, does your plate look so clean when you’re done that it barely needs washing?

I’m guilty! Or at least I used to be.
I was not brought up by parents who told me I must finish the food in front of me because children around the world were starving.
But for various reasons, that is the habit I developed.

    How about you?
Do you feel like it’s not fair that you can’t eat ALL the delicious food?
Do you think it’s bad to waste food?

    I understand.
But food is wasted whether it’s inside your body or outside.
And that ‘inside’ waste means extra, unneeded food is stored as fat.
    And who wants that?

So join me in this coaching session where I will show you how to think so that you can resign from the Clean Plate Club.

After all, this is a membership that will keep you stuck in the struggle.
And I am all about freedom.

    Show notes

Food tastes good and makes us feel good.
It’s pleasurable to eat and enjoy all kinds of tastes and textures.
    This is good.
It lights up our brains and we see food as a kind of reward.

But if food is pleasure, can we use food to make us feel good?
Can we use food as self-care?
    Wouldn’t that mean always overeating?

In this episode, we will talk about how to really know what self-care is, what qualifies as self-care.

We will talk about the different things you can do to take care of yourself.
And why it’s your responsibility to figure out what makes you feel good.
    Why you need it.
No matter what you weigh right now.

But we will also answer this big question:
Can I use food to care for myself?
    Get ready.
I’m going to give you five different thoughts about how to use food as self-care, without going overboard and without letting the food rule you.

Join me in this coaching session and learn how to get pleasure from your food without sabotaging yourself.
