    Control Podcast 182

When things are uncertain, we will do almost anything to create more certainty.

Right now, we are in flux in so many areas and it’s natural that you want to know what is happening.

Whether it’s the virus, or the state of our nation in the US, other people’s actions or your own… so much is going on. In weight loss, we try to control what we do, thinking it will help us get what we want.

Here’s what we will cover today:

    • What does being in control feel like?
    • Why do you and everyone else strive to be in control?
    • Where this shows up in your life.
    • How you might be doing it, trying to control all kinds of things.
    • And how that works… or doesn’t!

I’m going to give you a new way of looking at control and give you some new ways to think about it.

I’ll also show you how you can be in charge of yourself and what you can control, without holding on for dear life and feeling stressed and pressured all the time.

Episode 180: All Weight Loss Starts with a Decision Jun 09, 2020

    Decision Podcast 180

You know what result you want. You want to lose weight. You want to stop starting over again and again. You definitely want to stop hating yourself.

So first, you clarify what you want and then you figure out what to do. You look for a diet or a program or a philosophy and then you start.

But if this is what you do, you are forgetting one big important thing: your decision.

Not your decision to lose weight. You make that decision every morning and every evening. You think about it constantly and beat yourself up for not following the steps you’ve chosen, and you do this over and over.

What is missing is your decision to do what it takes and that means your commitment. Not just when it’s easy but to do what it takes until you get what you want.

You decide, then you commit. And then you get all your thoughts and feelings lined up so that you can do what it takes to get what you want.

Episode 178: It Takes Time to Change May 26, 2020
    Show notes

    Time Podcast 178

We want immediate results – want to see something for our effort. When we don’t, we give up. We think something is wrong… with the plan, with us, with something.

That isn’t the whole picture. Some change can be seen “overnight” – but most change, significant change, long-lasting change, takes time. Most results don’t come after just a few attempts or a few small steps in the right direction.

    We’ll discuss:

    • What change is.
    • The first thing to do that will lead to lasting change.
    • What’s required for change to happen.
    • Why it hasn’t happened in the past.

It’s time to get real so you can get real results and see the change you want to see.

Episode 176: Why Comfort Foods Don’t Work and What Really Does May 12, 2020
    Show notes

    Comfort Podcast 176

Today we are talking about how to comfort yourself without food.

So many of you think about and talk about comfort food like it’s the answer to feeling better.

The world we live in promotes this… we have tv ads on all the time that show us snuggling up in a couch eating mac and cheese or having a cup of coffee and cookies. And they sure do make it look appealing, right? If we want to feel better, we should eat these things.

And we get that idea and do it.

So, let’s look at this subject today and take it apart together, and figure out how to get the comfort you need and want. Truly.

    We’ll talk about:

    • What comfort is and why we seek it.
    • Why eating is such a “go to” way to comfort ourselves.
    • 4 steps to change your pattern of using food for comfort.

Remember, there’s no such thing as comfort food. Comfort is a feeling and feelings come from your thoughts so, let’s work on those thought patterns. Food is only good for one thing: to satisfy physical hunger. Food cannot comfort you!

Do you go through your life from mood to mood, and feel like how your days go is determined by luck?

Do you know what causes all the moods you have? And how important it is to understand them?

That’s what we are going to talk about today.

    • What your moods are and how they influence you.
    • Why it’s important to understand your moods.
    • Knowing and being aware of your most typical moods, most days.

Moods don’t just come upon us. They don’t come from other people, our hormones, or how long our to-do lists are.

Moods are created by you. Some are helpful, some are neutral, and some are negative. Some are fleeting and some last for days.

Enough said! Now, let’s figure out this whole subject of moods, so you can get back in charge of getting what you want, whether it’s being a more peaceful eater, losing weight, or just being happier.

Episode 174: Why You Need to Remember the Pain of Overeating Apr 28, 2020
    Show notes

    Remember Podcast 174

Think about the last time you slipped and went off your eating plan. We’re not about diets here, but we are talking about making a plan for yourself and then keeping your promise to yourself. Your goal is to honor your plan.

And when you don’t keep your promise to yourself, that is considered a slip.

So, what happens when you slip? Essentially you are enjoying the moment, and conveniently putting your goals in the way back part of your mind.

And, you are conveniently forgetting how bad you felt on the last overeating episode.

Now remember in Episode 171, How to Hold Yourself Accountable, we talked about making sure you didn’t move on from a slip without learning from it. No self-beating, but definitely learning from what you did.

What we’re talking about here today is why it’s important to keep the memory of the pain you felt when you slipped… in the front of your mind.

Do I want you to feel bad? Of course not. But sometimes we need to remember our pain, so we learn from it. So we know what we don’t want again. And we use it to help ourselves keep our promises.

So, before you let the pain of your latest overeating episode slip into the back of your memory, write it down. Let’s remember while it’s fresh. I want you to be sure to have some ammunition the next time you think: “Oh, what’s the big deal? I can always start again tomorrow.”

We are focusing on the pain. So that you can stop creating the pain. Go back and listen to Episode 171 so you can put all this together. Hold yourself accountable. Get clear on the pain you’re creating when you allow your brain to talk you into a slip. And let’s prevent it from happening again.

Episode 173: Stop Stopping to Get What You Want! Apr 21, 2020
    Show notes

    Stop Podcast 173

Are you in the habit of falling down and not getting up? I mean when you are trying to accomplish a new thing, and it’s hard. You fail. You feel bad. And then you talk yourself out of doing it at all.

Today we are going to talk frankly about what it really takes to change. To transform yourself. From where you are now and from how you eat and care for yourself now, to where you want to be.

Change takes time, yes. But it also takes a lot of failures. Yes, painful, humbling, uncomfortable failures. It takes going through them and getting back up and keeping on keeping on.

It does not take quitting, giving up, and licking your wounds.

In order to create real change, you need to expect to fail and keep going. Without stopping.

Does that sound harsh? It doesn’t have to sound harsh or feel harsh. It’s just reality.

Doing something new means you will fail often. If you take those fails as a signal to stop, you are going to stay exactly where you are. And I know you, my friend. You want more. You want better. And you want to be the best version of you.

So, are you ready to stop stopping? Let me help you with this in this coaching session. As you listen, think about something you really wish was different for you. And I will show you how to keep going until you get what you want.
