    Show notes

    Math Podcast 172

Are you frustrated because the scale is not moving? You are not alone! And you’re not alone in thinking that you have no idea why you can’t lose weight.

But I am here today to show you how to figure out EXACTLY what you are doing, or not doing, that is contributing to your current weight.

You might remember that in Episode 98, The Math of Weight Loss, we looked at this concept. Here, I am elaborating on how thinking of your weight as the end of an equation will help you make adjustments so you can get the result you want.

I want you to think of your weight as part of a big but very simple math equation. On one side are all the things you do or don’t do.

    • How you eat.
    • When you start eating.
    • What you eat.
    • When you stop eating.

    And so on.

All these things add up to the right side of the equation. And that is your weight.

So, if you want to change that number on the scale, I want you to sit down, leave the mind drama behind, do the math, and figure out exactly what needs to be adjusted, so the number on the right is a number you want.

Are you ready to tweak all the things you do to get the weight you want? I’m here to help, so grab a comfy chair and listen in.

Episode 171: Hold Yourself Accountable for What You Eat Apr 07, 2020
    Show notes

    Accountable Podcast 171

What do you do when you slip? When you promise yourself that you will do something or not do something, and it doesn’t work? You don’t keep that promise sometimes, right? Are you accountable to yourself?

If you’re like most of the people I’ve worked with you probably veer between hating yourself when you slip and letting it go without examining what happened.

In this coaching session, you know I’m going to strongly recommend against beating yourself up. Of course.

But I’m also not an advocate of saying: “Oh well. No big deal.” And just moving on.

It’s not a big deal. But it’s a learning experience if you allow yourself to look at what happened. What you thought. What you felt. What you did or didn’t do. And what the end result was.

    This is loving accountability.

Want to grow? No more beating, and no more sweeping it under the rug.

Be accountable, learn from your mistake and THEN move on.

Episode 170: Why Now is Better than Someday Mar 31, 2020
    Show notes

    Now Podcast 170

Do you want something different than what you have today? Do you want to feel different? To do different things? To get different results?

I hear you! Of course, you do. And that doesn’t mean you don’t appreciate what you have and who you are today. It means you want more. You want growth. You want to live as a better version of who you are.

That means allowing yourself to feel good now, even while you are going through a really challenging time. I want you to prioritize taking good care of you and your loved ones. And once you are safe and healthy, it’s okay to feel good now. It’s okay to move between fear and worry and back to gratitude and peace.

In addition to feeling good now, it’s also okay and even good to keep moving toward what you want most. After your needs are taken care of, now is the time to take steps in the direction of your dreams.

Time marches on, life marches on, and so do you. In the moment when you know you are okay, allow your good feelings to be present AND allow yourself to take steps toward what you wish for. Remember that someday is not real. Someday is a concept in the future, an easy way to let your brain stop worrying about today, but never really getting where you want to go.

I’d love to be your support and your guide to help you get through this big challenge.

Learning to manage your mind during a crisis is such a valuable skill. Let’s come through this together, better than we were before.

Episode 169: Your Brain in a Crisis – How to Not Eat Your Way Through It! Mar 24, 2020
    Show notes

    Brain Podcast 169

Right now, we are all going through a worldwide crisis. A pandemic. A unique situation.

If you are typically an emotional eater, you are probably hitting the fridge and the pantry for some extra snacks.

Snacks to distract you from your fears, your worry, and your overwhelm. But the way to get through this crisis is to manage your brain. Not feed yourself so you don’t feel your scary feelings.

In the special episode of Weight Loss Made Real, we will talk about how your brain works to serve you on a daily basis.

And what happens to your brain when you go through a serious situation.

We are in this together, and I want to help you learn how to manage your thoughts and feelings so that you come out the other end proud of yourself.

Overeating now will distract you from your feelings… but just for a few minutes. And when you are done, you will feel worse than you did in the beginning.

Let’s look at how you can outsmart your brain and get it to work FOR you, instead of against you.

    We can do this!

Episode 168: You Have to Really Want It

You know you want it. You can taste it. You think about it morning and night. You feel desperate about it!

    Want It Podcast 168

Wait, hold on. Feeling desperate won’t help you get what you want. You do need to really want it, whether ‘it’ is weight loss or freedom from the weight and eating struggle.

But you need to want it in a determined way, not in a desperate way.

Today we are going to talk about how to get what you want in the right frame of mind.

Stop wasting all that negative energy pushing and fighting for what you want. I want you to want it. But I want you to want it in a peacefully determined way.

Are you game? Join me in this coaching session.

Let’s ditch the desperation and start getting closer to what you want: Freedom.

Episode 167: Fran Learned How to Stop Thinking About Food and Her Weight All the Time Mar 10, 2020
    Show notes

Today we are going to hear a conversation between me and Fran, a former Freedom Group member.

Fran graduated from the Freedom Group after working through all four of the levels in the group.

I want you to listen to Fran’s story. Although she didn’t have a lot of weight to lose, about 20 lbs., she went through a long period of time in eating drama, thinking about food and her weight a lot!

Fran’s thoughts about her weight put her in a constant struggle with herself. And here’s how she got out of the struggle.

    • She tried all the diets you’ve ever heard of, including some methods that weren’t helpful.
    • After losing her husband, she started dieting to control what she could and felt bad about herself. She was using food to feel better.
    • Fran was in a pattern of feeling very emotional, overeating, and then restricting her eating so she never got above a certain weight.
    • This was an exhausting cycle. At that time this struggle felt normal, but now she realizes how hard it was.
    • Her journey led her to take care of herself emotionally and she got out of the habit of going to strict diets that ruled her life to a much more relaxed way of eating and finding peace.

I know what is possible for Fran is possible for everyone.

Listen to her story and ask yourself if you are still doing some of the things she used to do, and if you’d like to leave these habits in the past.

Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night, looking for food? Maybe you’re actually hungry, or maybe it’s just your habit.
In the moment, it feels like you have no choice but to follow this strong urge. And so, you do.

In the moment you don’t give it a lot of thought; there’s just this super-strong urge. And you probably go back to sleep after you’ve eaten. But the next morning is a different story, as you are wracked with guilt and regret.

Episode 165: How to Eat with an Irregular Schedule Feb 25, 2020
    Show notes

    Schedule Podcast 165

A lot of my clients complain about their schedules. So many things come up! And so many things just don’t happen as they were planned.

Sometimes your regular schedule gets disrupted and you have to change all your plans.

Other times your schedule is regularly up and down. It’s always irregular. And that is normal for you.

What I hear is that so many of my clients and listeners blame the normal ups and downs of their life for their irregular eating. For their overeating. And for their out-of-control eating.

Does an irregular schedule have to lead to irregular eating?

What is true? Can you actually stick to your plans and work toward healthy weight loss when your calendar is looking a little crazy?

The answer is yes! And that’s what we will talk about today.

Not only will I show you how to stop blaming and complaining about the fluctuations of your schedule, but I will also show you what to do about it.

You know me and you know there will be some thinking involved. But together, we will figure this out.

Episode 164: Taking a Break Without Eating Feb 18, 2020
    Show notes

    Break Podcast 164

Did you ever have one of those days where you just needed a break?

You weren’t hungry. But maybe you were tired and worn out. It had been a long day, full of all kinds of demands on you. And you just needed something!

The problem is, you’re not used to paying attention to your thoughts or your feelings. Not to the point of really clarifying what’s going on with you. And if you’re not clear, then it’s hard to know what you really need.

You assume it’s food. And you’re certainly not alone here. It’s easy to grab. You know it will taste good. And it’s a faster fix than sitting with yourself and figuring out exactly what it is you do need.

But here’s the problem: Your body doesn’t need food in this moment. So, everything you eat will be stored as fat. And that’s not what you want, right?

In this coaching session, I’m going to show you how to figure out exactly what you need in the moment. And then, you’ll learn how to give it to yourself. Let’s reserve food for one main thing: hunger.

Episode 163: Are You Rebelling Against Yourself When You Overeat? Feb 11, 2020
    Show notes

    Rebelling Podcast 163

Do you think if someone had a way of ‘making you’ do something, that you’d be so happy? Because then you’d really stick to your eating plan or go to the gym.

But then, when you do join a diet program or hire that personal trainer, you still find yourself quitting?

If you do, you are not alone.

And as silly as this might sound, you are really rebelling against yourself. You’re the one who wants to achieve something, to change a habit, or to just show up differently.

But when you set things up to do just that, you find yourself thinking things like:

    • I don’t care!
    • I don’t have to!
    • No one can make me do that!

And the next thing you know you are off your plan, headed in the opposite direction of your goal.

This is rebellion at it’s worst, because you are actually rebelling only against yourself. Hmmm. Not exactly what you planned to do, right?

In this coaching session we will take a good look at how you might be rebelling against yourself, why you might be in the habit of doing that, and, of course, how to stop doing it!

You know what you need to do. Now, let’s work together to help you actually do that. Without the rebellion. No more excuses!
