    Holidays Podcast 152

If you’ve been following these podcasts and are doing the work on your eating and thinking and self-care, now may be the time for stress.

    Or so you think.

Here in the U.S. and in many places around the world, it’s holiday season.

That means more food, more temptations to ditch your eating plan, more family drama and more worry about eating.

Am I describing you right now?

In the Freedom Group, lots of our members start worrying about the holidays in October.

For some it’s all about the food itself.

For others, it’s about being alone, or with family members you’re not as connected to as you want to be.

Maybe you’ve made progress in your weight loss journey and you fear losing the progress you’ve made.

Or maybe you’re just beginning and struggling, and you’re afraid that your old habit of non-stop holiday food will keep you stuck in square one.

And self-care? For lots of us, it goes right out the window at this time of year.

Let’s look at all these holiday concerns together. I know for sure that no matter what the calendar says, you can get through the holidays without weight gain and without stress.

Yes, you can even be with family and still honor yourself. And I will show you how.

Let’s do this together and make these holidays the new standard for you to take care of yourself and your eating no matter what day it is.

Episode 151: Why Hunger Can Feel Scary Nov 19, 2019
    Show notes

    Scary Podcast 151

You’re hungry. You start to feel panicky. Will you be able to eat soon? What type of food will be available? What if there isn’t enough?

Next thing you know, you’re eating way more than your body needs. But you can’t help it. It’s scary to be hungry.

Or maybe this is what you experience… you’re hungry and you immediately respond by shutting that down. You’re used to dieting and that means you ignore that hunger signal. You can’t eat now – you’re not supposed to. And that’s scary too.

There are so many reasons hunger signals cause you to feel scared, out of control, or panicky.

Today, let’s take a closer look at the thoughts and feelings that come up when you feel physical hunger.

And we’ll talk about why it’s so hard to even wait for hunger in the first place!

We’ll talk about the difference between food restriction and food deprivation. And why you don’t need to worry about either once you learn how to eat like a natural eater.

I’ll explain why hunger is not an emergency – even if your lower brain is telling you otherwise.

We’ll finish up with strategies for handling hunger signals so that you don’t panic, and you don’t respond in ways that derail you from your goals.

You can learn to experience hunger without feeling like it’s an emergency that causes you fear and panic. I’ll show you why it’s so important to learn this and how to do it.

I’ll teach you how to respond from your higher brain, making choices that will serve your body, your goals, and your enjoyment. You’ll be able to replace those scary feelings and panic with peace. Listen in to learn how.

Episode 150: Why You Must Make Time for Weight Loss Nov 12, 2019
    Show notes

    Time Podcast 150

It’s another Monday and you’re motivated to start a new weight loss plan. This time, you say to yourself, I’m ready.

For a few days or even a couple of weeks, you’re staying on your plan. You don’t have to think too much about it.

And then, the inevitable. Something or someone throws a wrench into your plans. You have to work late or there is a family emergency, or you’re worn out from too many commitments, or maybe it’s that you’re going on that long-awaited vacation.

But no matter what “it” is, the next thing you know, you tell yourself you’ll just have to plan on getting back on track after this is over with.

Sound familiar? It’s a cycle that you’ve been through before. That much I know.

But this cycle doesn’t get you where you want to go. It doesn’t help you reach your weight loss goal.

Something is missing. But what is it?

That something is time. Making time for your weight loss plan. Making time for yourself. And making your weight loss a priority. Every day. No matter what comes up.

Listen in today as I explain why making time for weight loss is so important to reaching your goal.

Episode 149: Bumps in the Road to Weight Loss Nov 05, 2019
    Show notes

    Bumps Podcast 149

Is your life perfect? I didn’t think so. And neither is mine.

Yet sometimes, I still have this unrealistic expectation and hope, that as I work on something, it WILL go perfectly.

I’ll bet you do, too. That’s why you may be shocked and thrown off track when you hit some bumps in the road toward natural eating.

The way around this is to know these bumps are inevitable, and not let them throw you.

In this coaching session, here’s what we will cover together:

    • Why you think you should have a smooth road on your natural eating journey.
    • What really happens in your mind when you get a dose of reality and things don’t go smoothly.
    • How this habit could go down in a whole different, better way.
    • Why ‘imperfect’ could be beautiful.
    • And, how to view any challenges you are facing right now.

    See you inside the session!

Episode 148: Do You Love Food Too Much? Oct 29, 2019
    Show notes

    Love Food Podcast 148

Have you ever said this? “I just can’t lose weight because I’m a real food lover.”

Well, this is just not true. We all love food, really. Me too!

But when we love something, there is no drive to overdo it. Just the right amount is perfect. And too much is too much.

When you love something, you don’t use it for things it’s not intended for. You don’t eat delicious food because you are sad. You don’t eat 12 cookies because you are excited.

You eat food because you love it, and you eat it slowly enough to taste it. Slowly enough to really savor it. And you get maximum pleasure out of it.

When you use food inappropriately, to make yourself feel good, it’s not because you love it so much.

It’s because you aren’t taking responsibility for yourself. For your emotions. And this is VERY different from eating because you love food. Try hitting the vending machine Brisbane at the office to change the snacks fro healthy treats

I want you to enjoy the foods you love. AND learn to manage your emotional life. AND, see that they are two different things.

Here is where we do that, together.

Episode 147: What Other People Think About Your Weight Oct 22, 2019
    Show notes

    People Podcast 147

Are you on the journey to lose your extra weight and end your emotional eating?

If you are, I’ll bet you are a bit on the sensitive side when it comes to seeing certain people or doing certain things.

Maybe you wonder what they think of you. How you look. What you weigh. Especially if you haven’t lost weight since you’ve seen them. Or, maybe you’ve even gained weight since you’ve seen them!

I know you think you’d feel so much better if only the number on the scale were different. But guess what?

It’s not the number. It’s your thinking.

Yes, it’s how you think about what these other people think that makes you feel shame and fear and sadness.

It’s those thoughts that make you turn down invitations to events where you will be seen.

What if you didn’t have to do this? What if you could feel good no matter who you were seeing, what you were doing, and whatever your weight was?

Join me as I show you your thinking, and possibly how other people think, about you and your weight.

    Episode 146: Boredom Eating Oct 15, 2019
    Show notes

    Boredom Podcast 146

Ho hum! Another lull in your day. Nothing exciting to do. Not much to think about.

Might as well grab something to eat!

    Is this you?

Although eating from boredom was never my thing, SO many of my former clients and Freedom Group members have told me that this is their biggest struggle.

If you’ve ever gone to eat something with no hunger, and seemingly no problem, you know what I mean.

It’s the excitement you are looking for. The pleasure. And yes, that hit of dopamine that you crave.

But wait! This is a habit you don’t want to keep.

Because it will give you a gift you don’t want. All that extra weight. And a strong link between an emotion and the chips, ice cream and Snickers bars.

So, join me as I deconstruct the idea of boredom:

    • What it is.
    • Why you feel it.
    • What it feels like.
    • What creates that feeling of being bored.
    • And a new way to both look at it, and not eat from it.

I know if you solved this issue, your eating would be less stressed, and your old habits of eating from feelings would start to fade away.

    Let’s do this!

Episode 145: Should I Have Just a Little? Or None at All? Oct 08, 2019
    Show notes

    Little Podcast 145

How often do you struggle with this?

You are offered a piece of chocolate cake. Your mind immediately starts weighing the pros and the cons.

Should you have a little bit of it? Or should you say no?

What will be easier? What will create more of a struggle?

While you know yourself, I wonder if you know what makes this decision easier or harder for you.

The first thing that I want you to look at is your thoughts, of course! If you think ‘one bite and I’m out of control’, that is a hint that you might find it easier to have none than just a little of that chocolate cake.

Your thinking creates your emotions. And if your emotions are deprived and helpless, when thinking about not having a treat, we can look at this and decide what you really want to do.

You’ll learn why having some isn’t better or worse than having none of that tempting food at all. It all depends on what is easier for you. And I’ll show you how to make the whole decision easier.

Are you ready? Will you have a little bit? Or will it be easier to just skip the cake?

    Let’s find out!

Episode 144: How to Deal with Other People’s Moods Without Eating Oct 01, 2019
    Show notes

    Moods Podcast 144

I used to be totally ruled by the moods of my husband, my two daughters and my friends.

If they were in a good mood, I’d be good. I’d feel relieved and peaceful. But if they weren’t, everything felt up for grabs.

If they were sad, I’d feel sad.

If they were worried, I’d jump right in there on the worry bus with them.

And if they were angry about something, guess who’d be angry too? Me, of course!

Now I have so much more understanding about moods than I used to. I know what creates my own moods. And, I really understand what creates the moods of others around us.

And that’s what I want to share with you today.

Because what you ultimately want to do is to experience your own moods, the good and the bad AND be with someone else and their moods, without running to eat to feel better. This is a step toward ending your emotional eating.

No matter what mood the people around you are in, you have a choice of how you feel. This is our work today.

Join me in this coaching session where we shine the light on moods, especially the moods of those around us.

Episode 143: Mary Found Out Why She was Triggered to Overeat Sep 24, 2019
    Show notes

I know you can relate to this. Let’s face it. We all want to hear what goes on behind the scenes. And the Freedom Group is no exception.

Meet Mary. A lifelong dieter, she has tried just about every eating plan and diet out there. For the past 44 years.

She started early, going from plan to plan and program to program. Always losing weight. But as soon as the programs were done, she went right back to how she used to eat and would always regain her weight.

She was either on a diet or falling off a diet. And along the way, with all the weight lost and gained, she never really learned one big thing: why she overate in the first place.

This cycle of failure made her think that there was something wrong with her. But there wasn’t.

Now Mary knows why she was triggered to overeat and how to stop it. She is much more self-accepting and has more self-confidence.

Social situations used to be a big source of stress, that required lots of planning and worry. No more. She is much more relaxed about her eating in every situation. And no longer stresses about parties and travel and holidays.

The new Mary? She can handle anything. And this is what I wish for you.
