    Wannabe Balanced | MINDSET Coach

This podcast started out as a self help podcast for moms trying to find balance in motherhood and business but morphed into a documentation of Crystal and Sean Escobar’s journey out of the Mormon church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). The Podcast has been therapeutic on so many levels for its hosts. They vulnerably share their pitfalls and triumphs as they work to deconstruct a lifetime of indoctrination from the LDS church which they exited in the Spring of 2018. Sexual shame, marriage, parenting, science, spirituality, personal development, healing, sex abuse, are some of the topics they focus on.

At episode 100 they both decided they were done processing their experience in the church and shifted their focus on helping others heal and grow in all areas of life. Crystal became a Certified Life/ Mindset Coach in 2020 and now offers free education in personal development via her podcast.

Her mission is to help women overcome past trauma and limiting beliefs, empowering them to create the life they were meant to live through her podcast, Time Management Course, and one on one coaching services.

    Ep #81: ESCAPE the Outbreak (COVID-19) w/ Tru Eastman Mar 16, 2020
    Show notes

C.S. Lewis on pandemics and other horrors:
“In one way we think a great deal too much of the atomic bomb. “How are we to live in an atomic age?” I am tempted to reply: “Why, as you would have lived in the sixteenth century when the plague visited London almost every year, or as you would have lived in a Viking age when raiders from Scandinavia might land and cut your throat any night; or indeed, as you are already living in an age of cancer, an age of syphilis, an age of paralysis, an age of air raids, an age of railway accidents, an age of motor accidents.”
In other words, do not let us begin by exaggerating the novelty of our situation. Believe me, dear sir or madam, you and all whom you love were already sentenced to death before the atomic bomb was invented: and quite a high percentage of us were going to die in unpleasant ways. We had, indeed, one very great advantage over our ancestors—anesthetics; but we have that still. It is perfectly ridiculous to go about whimpering and drawing long faces because the scientists have added one more chance of painful and premature death to a world which already bristled with such chances and in which death itself was not a chance at all, but a certainty.
This is the first point to be made: and the first action to be taken is to pull ourselves together. If we are all going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb when it comes find us doing sensible and human things—praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of darts—not huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs. They may break our bodies (a microbe can do that) but they need not dominate our minds.”

Ep #80: What about Jesus? w/ Rachel Thomas Mar 10, 2020
    Show notes

Rachel and I discuss some of her thoughts and new beliefs since leaving the church about 4 years ago.

"I left the church in November 2015 when "the policy" was announced. At the time I still believed that Joseph Smith was involved in the restoration of truth, but that over 200 years the church had gone into apostasy because the moment I heard the policy, another voice loudly sounding off in my head was "Jesus wouldn't suffer the children for the sins of the parents". It was pretty loud and pretty persistent, so that Sunday I walked into the bishops office and asked to be released from the Relief Society Secretary position I was holding and that I wouldn't be back. Done and done. I had a really hard time with the fact that the church was so exclusive and INCLUSION is a word that has always resonated with my soul. My husband is still believing and we have had a rollercoaster of a ride navigating that, but we have learned to respect each other for our beliefs. The more we can give up being right the more we can come together and allow each other to just be. I think for about 7 years before I left I was very unhappy and it wasn't resonating with me. I would come home from church upset and in a bit of a stupor of though, so leaving has allowed me to really be free to explore all the wonderful truths that are in the world. THAT is the fun part I think."

    Ep #79: What is a CULT? Mar 03, 2020
    Show notes

When you feel you have been lied to it can be very difficult to trust again. You start to believe that everyone is using manipulation tactics in order to get what THEY want.

In this episode I'm talking about how I'm learning to trust again.

Ep #77: FOMO | Fear of Missing Out Feb 20, 2020
    Show notes

Sometimes I fear I’m missing out on something but I'm realizing that the belief that others are experiencing something more enriching than me is all just an illusion. That's when the focus is on LACK and not abundance. If we choose not to look at the beauty in our own lives, then THAT is what we are really missing out on.

Ep #76: Empowering the Feminine w/ Dusty Jacobsen Feb 11, 2020
    Show notes

My friend Dusty Jacobson and I discuss the topic of the divine feminine, gender equality, and empowering women as we raise our voices together in love and unity.

We reflect on our former mentality, some of the things that got us fired up in the past as we began to recognize the ways in which we felt suppressed as women.

"You are being presented with a choice or remain. If you choose to remain unchanged, you will be presented with the same challenges, the same routine, the same storms, the same situations, until you learn from them, until you love yourself enough to say "no more", until you choose change.
If you choose to evolve, you will connect with the strength within you, you will explore what lies outside of the comfort zone, you will awaken to love, you will become, you will be. You have everything you need. Choose to evolve. Choose Love.

Ep #75: Needed to Hate You to Love Me Jan 22, 2020
    Show notes

"You promised the world and I fell for it
I put you first and you adored it
You set fires to my forest
    And you let it burn
Sang off key in my chorus
    Cause it wasn’t yours
I saw the signs and I ignored it
    Rose colored glasses all distorted
You set fire to my purpose
    And I let it burn
You got off on the hurtin’
    When it wasn’t yours
We’d always go into it blindly
I needed to lose you to find me
This dancing was killing me softly
I needed to hate you to love me..."

Ep #73: Parenting After Mormonism Nov 20, 2019
    Show notes

    OBEDIENCE... what does that mean?

Is it better to choose obedience over knowledge?

Doing what you are told regardless of what feels right to your soul?

Obedience is a principle I’ve had to really question since stepping away from the Mormon church. What I’ve concluded is that obedience no longer fits into my moral code.

Is teaching our children obedience to an authority figure really in their best interest?
It would seem that way, yes. To abide by the laws, follow the rules, and be respectful of others property. Absolutely!

But what if we take a slightly different approach to obedience and authority. What if we teach our children to trust their OWN authority. What if we empower them with the knowledge that they already know how to choose the right. That if they learn how to listen to their internal guidance system they will never be led astray.

Nobody knows you better than yourself, your inner being. Often we listen to what others are telling us to do more than we listen to ourselves. Teaching our children obedience may in fact be keeping them from aligning with their own personal GPS system.

    Something to think about 🤔.

Ep #72: What is the Purpose of Life? Nov 12, 2019
    Show notes

What is the purpose of life?
    To pass the test?
    To overcome the natural man?
    To serve others?
To multiply and replenish the 🌍? 🤔
To align ourselves with God/the Universe?
    To strive for perfection?
    To discover, remember, create...???

I believe the purpose of life is to Experience, Expand, and Express!

I no longer believe I’m here to pass a test in order to receive my reward in heaven such as eternal families, salvation, etc.

I believe life is meant to be experienced without judgment, expressed in pure love, and inevitably we grow and expand as we open ourselves up to furthering our awareness.
