    Wannabe Balanced | MINDSET Coach

This podcast started out as a self help podcast for moms trying to find balance in motherhood and business but morphed into a documentation of Crystal and Sean Escobar’s journey out of the Mormon church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). The Podcast has been therapeutic on so many levels for its hosts. They vulnerably share their pitfalls and triumphs as they work to deconstruct a lifetime of indoctrination from the LDS church which they exited in the Spring of 2018. Sexual shame, marriage, parenting, science, spirituality, personal development, healing, sex abuse, are some of the topics they focus on.

At episode 100 they both decided they were done processing their experience in the church and shifted their focus on helping others heal and grow in all areas of life. Crystal became a Certified Life/ Mindset Coach in 2020 and now offers free education in personal development via her podcast.

Her mission is to help women overcome past trauma and limiting beliefs, empowering them to create the life they were meant to live through her podcast, Time Management Course, and one on one coaching services.

Ep #49: Bridging the Gap | Things we can appreciate about religion Mar 21, 2019
    Show notes

After months of going through and processing all the emotions that come with an existential crisis, Sean and I are happy to have arrived into a new, more positive emotion of love and gratitude for our experience growing up in a religion.

We are ready to find ways to bridge the gap and become one with everyone, no matter their religious beliefs or political views. There is a universal commonality that we forget to acknowledge, and that is LOVE! Love is the ultimate goal and driving force which can allow us all to drop our need to be right, and focus on the fact that we are all spiritual beings who just want to love, create, contribute, and expand.

Ep #48: Mindy Gledhill | Falling Down the Rabbit Hole Mar 12, 2019
    Show notes

Singer songwriter Mindy Gledhill shares her faith crisis experience that inspired her new album Rabbit Hole.

For years, Mindy Gledhill’s relentless search for meaning has inspired her to pursue a variety of musical projects, both at home and abroad, and has now launched her head-first down a rabbit hole of new melodic creativity.

Over the course of her musical career, Mindy has recorded wildly successful indie albums with a cadre of award-winning producers, starting with her 2004 debut, followed by four more albums over the next decade (Feather in the Wind, Anchor, Pocketful of Poetry, and the Christmas album Winter Moon).

In addition to her own releases, Mindy has also performed as a guest artist on multiple acclaimed projects, including Kaskade’s 2011 Grammy-nominated album, Fire & Ice. Her popularity has led to sold out shows across the US, as well as performances with remarkable musical groups ranging from orchestras and rock bands to bluegrass revivalists.

It’s also brought her music to primetime TV, where it has appeared in So You Think You Can Dance, Bones, 20/20, The Good Wife, and Dancing with the Stars. In addition, her work has been featured in several television commercials, including Fruit of the Loom’s 2012 Olympic Games ad campaign, AAA Insurance’s 2014 Super Bowl campaign, and LG Phones, to name a few.

But as rewarding as those successes have been, Mindy has always felt compelled to traverse the provincial borders of her backyard. Over the years, she has sung and danced with inspiring Kenyan women while on a humanitarian trip, guided an artists’ retreat to Morocco, and enjoyed sold-out tours in Japan and a number-one hit single in Korea.

More recently, the personal trails she has blazed—complete with unexpected forks, twists, and turns—have led to a fresh destination on her musical map. Her new album, appropriately entitled Rabbit Hole, is the breathy confessional of a rapt soul who slipped down the curious tunnel of experience, landed in a hall of locked doors, and refused to be contained. In Rabbit Hole, Mindy confronts the challenges of life—all its unfulfilled expectations, sudden detours, and existential wounds—and presents us with a silver lining through bouncy rhythms and ballads of unabashed optimism. In spite of life’s crucibles and crises, she reassures us that everything is going to be alright, and that “To be upside down is a fine way to be.”

    Ep #47: Establishing a Morning Routine Mar 06, 2019
    Show notes

Let’s be real, waking up before the kids is extremely difficult. But I definitely pay a price when I don't get a head start on my day.

On the days I sleep in, I tend to feel scattered, overwhelmed, and a bit stressed. Lacking focus on what I need and should be doing, rendering an unproductive day.

Not only that but I struggle to be present when I'm with my kids. I try so hard to give them my full attention when they need me but I'm constantly feeling anxious and two steps behind.

I need the peace and stillness of the morning to organize my thoughts and my day. To meditate, to write out affirmations, to focus on gratitude, to read and to ponder. I simply needed QUIET TIME with no interruptions.

My morning routine gives me a sense of calm. I feel more centered and at peace with my daily mom work flow. I feel more relaxed, yet more productive. I’m able to focus and be more present with my children. Most importantly I just feel an overall sense of wellbeing.

Waking up early is hard, but the pay off is worth it. Studies have shown that waking up early can ACTUALLY put you in a better mood. It’s especially important for us moms. We rarely get a moment to ourselves and it’s better that we go to bed early and utilize those morning hours as opposed to staying up late to get your “YOU” time in. We are more productive in the morning hours than at night. In the evening I just end up watching Netflix.

I wanted to show you what my daily morning routine looks like, as well as give you a FREE printable. It’s just a little helpful guide for you to use as part of your morning rituals. Get your printable HERE.

Ep #46: Conscious Parenting w/ Sean Escobar Feb 26, 2019
    Show notes

Sean and I are realizing our past approach to parenting may be the effect of unconscious thinking. Doing what has always been done without ever really questioning WHY. Not allowing space for new ideas to emerge, new ways of viewing our children and the role we are playing in their lives.

Maybe our children are here to teach US instead of the other way around. Their ability to show us things about ourselves should be approached with great respect and reverence.

Dr. Shefali Tsabary, author of The Conscious Parent is teaching us how to think outside the box when it comes to parenting. How to stop viewing our children as an extension of us, fueling our ego as we attempt to mold them into the person WE want them to be. Instead recognize them as individual souls who are here to experience life the way THEY want to experience it.

Ep #44: What Do Dreams Mean? | Dream Interpretation | The Unconscious Mind Feb 12, 2019
    Show notes

The conscious mind is only the tip of the ice-burg. Below the water exists something so vast and majestic that you can't help but want to explore it.

I've recently gained a new understanding and appreciation for the unconscious mind, the mind that takes over while we sleep.

Have you ever wondered if your dreams have meaning?

In this episode I dive a little deeper into the purpose of dreams and how you can use them to discover new insights, gain clarity, creativity, solutions to your problems, and access inovative ideas.

    Ep #43: Of Realizations & Resolutions Feb 07, 2019
    Show notes

    Sadhguru said it so beautifully:

"What is the purpose of life? Never ask why with creation, you just ask how. There are plenty of tools and technologies that can show you how, but if you ask why, there is no why. We can tell you stories.

I can tell you a story that many of you would love to believe. If I speak about something that is not yet in your experience, you have only two choices. Either to believe me or disbelieve me. If you believe me, you will not get any closer to reality. It is just you will either have a positive story to tell, or a negative story to tell. Stories are good solace, but never a solution.

You must decide in your life, are you looking for solace, or a solution? If you're looking for solace I will tell you a nice story. If you're looking for a solution, then never ask beyond your present level of experience, because you will be forced to believe me or disbelieve me. It will not solve anything for you.

    So why creation?

Never ask why. Ask how to navigate through this creation, we will show you many ways. Never ask why because then we will have to go into a detention which will force you to believe or disbelieve."

    ~Sadhguru

    Ep #42: Overcoming Fear & Anxiety Jan 29, 2019
    Show notes

About 8 months ago I experienced an intense panic attack, I talked about it in season 1 episode 18. This experience can also be described as the “dark night of the soul”, something I now see as the turning point and most essential part of my growth. My dark night of the soul happened due my deep desire for spiritual growth. I felt stagnant, and was craving more. Although I was taught that my religion was the one and only way to receive the fulness of blessings in this life and for eternity, I couldn’t help but wonder if I was missing something. Why did I feel so unfulfilled. As I began diving deeper into my beliefs and desire for spiritual growth my sturdy foundation began to unravel before my eyes. I suddenly realized my life long religion was not LITERALLY true. It was similar to the day my mom told me that Santa Claus wasn’t real, except 100 times more devastating.

Going through this faith crisis has given me many gifts, but mostly it has given empathy and a deeper understanding of how to cope with fear and anxiety.

It reminds me of the movie Small Foot. There’s a part where the curiosity of a group of Yeti’s could not be contained anymore and they HAD to know if there was anything below the clouds. They were always taught that what lies below their little “perfect” world, was the great nothingness. Most of the Yeti’s just trusted that knowledge to be true even though not a single one of them ACTUALLY knew it.

So one day that little group of curious Yeti’s got up the courage to explore the “nothingness”. They attempted to safely explore with a rope attached to Migo (the main character), while the others slowly lowered him into the clouds. As they were lowering him, he just kept calling out, “I see nothing… still just clouds”. The length of the rope was beginning to run out and coincidentally they lost their grip of the rope and Migo bagan his long decent deep into the clouds.

I can 100% relate to that feeling he must have felt as he was falling, not knowing if there was anything below, probably thought he might just continue falling never reaching anything at all.

This is how I would describe my panic attack, or dark night of the soul. Which reminds me of something Brene Brown said,

“Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness, will we discover the infinite power of our light.”

Eventually the Migo landed and found himself in a whole new world he never even knew existed.

So my point here is that as much as we FEAR fear, it can actually be an incredible opportunity for growth and self discovery. As we experience it, we begin to learn how to work WITH it rather than against it.

Another one of my favorite quotes that I mention often is “Fear is excitement without the breath”. I read that in the book called The Big Leap. It was one of the first books I read once I took that leap into the great nothingness. Or what I thought might be nothingness, but couldn’t contain the desire of my soul to explore. I had a deep yearning for further “light and knowledge” and could not satisfy my hunger for spiritual growth within the religion I was a part of.

“You may lose your sense of false certainty – but you will soon realize that certainty and control are always illusions, and are also the sources of much judgment, arrogance, insensitivity, and even violence. As your certainty fades, you will find that reality (over false certainty) is a much stronger foundation upon which to build a life. You will exchange a life based on false certainty for a life based on reality.”

    ~ John Dehlin

    Ep #41: Judgement Jan 22, 2019
    Show notes

Judging others is a character of the ego. Anytime the ego is in charge, our souls connection becomes clouded, making it difficult to learn something new, have compassion for others, and even have the ability to be creative.

The ego sees things as good and bad, the soul just SEES things without any judgement.

This is the final episode of season two, but I will be back within a few weeks to begin season three.
